    Also, if you have a DI + turbocharger combo, know how to drive a turbocharged vehicle. Let the oil come up to temp before you hammer on the throttle. And, idle the engine for a minute before you shut it off, to let the hot oil cycle and cool.

      Ben all good points, we spoke with our friends from Liqui Moly a bit about start stop engines, and turbo timers etc. all pertaining to exactly what you are mentioning here. It's super important to be "responsible" when owning/driving/maintaining a modern turbocharged DI car, more so than most people may realistically realize!

    GDi Injectors do 3 things
    1. They clean the top of the cylinders
    2. They atomise the fuel with the air to the correct stoichiometric ratio
    3. They cool the pistons and cylinders

    Nicely done. A Part Two video would be nice - leveraging the basics of the first video, get into more details on why HPFP fails, PCV fails, et cetera. Also a lot of turbo enthusiasts are upgrading cars with greater PSI, etc. You could cover some basics on how upgrades further strain some of those systems. For example, important that fuel, PCV, and ignition systems are up-to-date and in top condition. I suspect a lot of FCPEuro sales are from people "upgrades" to new or latest revision parts ... not just basic maintenance.

      Fmorelli, glad you liked the video. A part 2 diving in a bit deeper is in the works, we tried to avoid getting too in depth on everything in this one as it would have been a 30+ minute video ^.^ Often times people may not be aware of the additional strain they could be putting on their cars other systems when "upgrading" certain parts, that's a great idea for a topic all on its own. Appreciate the feedback!

      What is the difference between the c3 diesel high pressure fuel pump Versions and the gasoline versions ?? Is it more clearance inside to not burn up?? Or some special coating??! And can GDI pumps tolerate e85 /M100 / nitromethane and or some water content from 0-100 %

      And what is the difference between the bmw common diesel rail injectors inline 6 cylinder ( Cummins looks like the same units along with the FCA 6-cyl eco diesel and GM duramax v8 ) and the ( I think 🤔 it’s the N56 the same one used in the Toyota supra bmw engine ) inline 6 GDI gasoline injectors the reason why I’m confused 🤷🏻‍♂️ the the 2003-17 ish year Versions look 👀 the same one the outside but obviously the engines aren’t the same inside and or work the same aka the compression ratios are different aka one is 9ish and the diesel is 14+ish to one

      You're welcome! Carbon buildup/cleaning is a bit of an inconvenience, however, manufacturers are starting to use both direct and port injection in order to resolve issues with carbon build-up, etc.

    Great video!!! I installed a Turner oil catch can on my 2014 BMW N55. It’s caught no oil in a year of use! So the N55 appears to have an outstanding oil separator.

    I run Seafoam through the intake system every tenK I like the Seafoam in that it contains some lubricant being a marine product, which is good for the valve guides. I would like to see an answer regarding EGR valves. I believe my 09 A5 3.2 had them and I would think they contribute to carbon buildup on the intake valves.

      We've considered tool rental as apart of our business, but it isnt in the works quite yet. We do sell the adapters for a handful of applications though, and there are some budget at home ways to make walnut blasters!

    I got direct injection, ive been using BERRYMAN B 12 every 4th fill up or so, this fuel system cleaner seems to really help, think im doing the right thing ? I do a mixture of city to highway driving, change the oil every 3,000

    So when i go start my car and hear the bomb ticking noise its just the direct injection and nothing to worry about?

      Can't say FOR SURE that its always an "okay sound" , but it is to be expected for most modern DI engines to hear some regular ticking, it can be from the injectors themselves, your lifters, a vacuum pump etc. The biggest thing is to take note of whether or not its a consistent/regular occurrence, does it vary drastically if the engine is cold vs warm , or at different rpm's do things sound better worse or the same.

      Great questions Ashrith. They are often times lubricated with oil from small passages within the cylinder head where the hpfp sits/attaches. On the N14 engine in the animation here with the cam driven hpfp there are small holes/chambers on the fuel pump itself in which oil from the head is cycled through.

    Ok what am I missing- in the illustration the fuel is being injected at the intake stroke, not at compression stroke- opposite what you said. And if it is injected at intake stroke why is 3000PSI necessary?

    The carbon buildup is a nasty con to DI and walnut blasting valves is not on my bucket list, so here's what you can do: 1) use only top tier premium fuel, 2) use the best synthetic oil recommended by the manufacturer, and 3) do NOT drive like grandma trying to squeeze good fuel economy out of your engine--slap that baby into sport mode and keep the revs up, once the engine is up to temperature.

    Walnut blasting or fuel purge? Different recommendation by different mechanics. VW petrol. Symptoms... misfire when engine is cold

      Lucky for you the N55 was designed with DI carbon buildup in mind, because of the way the cylinder head was designed it has integrated blow by passages that directly vent to the intake ports creating less carbon build up on the valves themselves. We still suggest monitoring it every around every 70-80k miles though

    Really good informations, can someone please help me with this problem I have in my car which I think it’s because of the carbon build up.
    I drive a Lexus is250 2008 model x, and every time I try and accelerate hard or push the car really hard a really bad smell comes out from the outside of the car if I have my windows down only. Can someone please help with fixing the car? Thanks 😁😁

    One of the solutions recommended by you FCP Euro is using the "LIQUI MOLY valve cleaner solution." follow the link and under the application "Best suited for non-direct injected engines" so is this good or no good to use or just a useless solution?       Hey John, the valve clean is for Port injected engines as a treatment/additive but we have used it in DI engines during the cleaning process directly on the valves while cleaning them up. Whole series is up on our Cayenne Turbo if you haven't caught it all yet!

    I had code P0014 pop up and i think it caused P0087 code. I changed the oil and replaced a bad VVT solenoid with broken circuit on the exhaust side. Engine sounds perfect but when hitting a hill it has poor acceleration. Any ideas? I really don’t think it high pressure fuel pump. I checked all fuses and they’re good. Would high pressure sensor not reading enough pressure cause low pressure code. I feel like if I’m getting a low pressure code that the low sensor is working but I may be wrong. Just seems like it would read opposite

      no, if the car requires premium gas put premium but most of the direct injection cars will make a ticking sound because of the high pressure fuel pump they have

    I think 2004 Volkswagen Passat 1.8T’s have port injected and not direct injection. Not sure though.🤷🏻‍♂️

      You are correct Raptor_BOSS! The B5.5 had a 1.8T with VW "MultiPoint Injection" which was essentially Port Injection.

    Carbon build up is a chicken little problem. Diesel DI has been running for decades with no carbon problem.

    You will get less to no carbon if you use good premium fuel and then no fuel additives and a little better fuel economy the cost will work out the same and your engine will thank you.

    Diesel engines have had direct fuel injection for years. Why don’t they suffer from carbon buildup?

      I believe it has to do with the chemical makeup of the diesel ⛽️ vs gas. Diesel requires extremely high temperatures to combust. I would imagine something with the higher Temps burns off the buildup as opposed to the gasoline models. Just a simple guess as I'm not overly versed in diesel as I've always been a pretty much strictly gas engine auto technician. All the diesel techs have to b sent out for specific training at the dealer I work for. If you aren't trained for it they don't have you work on them period. And honestly I'm ok with that I'd rather work on a car I don't need to climb up into the engine bay of the a 2500/3500 series pickup. Hope that helps you in some way or at least puts u on the correct track to finding a answer

      @@mikess96 9 months ago I asked this question and he has not answer. I love to ask question people can't answer. Your reason is wrong. Here's why I say that. Yes diesel engines need higher compression to burn the fuel. They burn the fuel is inside the cylinders. The back side of the intake valve is outside the cylinders. The back of the intake valve have build up just like gas engines. It's not enough to hurt the engine. It's not enough to hurt gas engines either. People trying to sell intake valve cleaning jobs. Made the problem worse than it really is. Yes I've seen the video of the ecoboost engine with the build up. That engine had other problems they didn't talk about.
      I bought a new 2016 F150 with a 2.7 twin turbo 6 years ago. My truck has 85k miles and it run good. I've never had my intake valves clean.

    do non turbo cars have or need high pressure fuel pumps driven by cam?? if so why? the injection is during intake part of tje cycle so its supposed to be vacum
