I don't think she's supporting WB's decision per say but in terms of monetary gain, its a pretty undeniably crafty and effective method to gain even more money from releases. I think she's just commenting in terms of how effective business wise it is. I doubt they'll get into the habit again, mostly because JL has been made from the offset taking into account some of the complaints about the DCEU, rather than being changed during production after another related film encounters some negativity, which bodes well. Bear in mind though, a lot of people love to watch home video with blu ray and home cinema and the like. So warner is catering to that market too. Extended cuts are hardly a new thing, very often they add more to a film and can even change what some reviled into something admired e.g. Blade Runner. Quite a few regular blockbusters often include an Ext cut, its mainly action films and Unrated cuts that were too raucous for the cinema. Then you've got someone like Jackson who has to cut down epics into digestable theatrical cuts and then releases his extendeds as a way of the fans delving deeper into the world if they wish.
I do plan on buying it physically but that said, honestly Grace this releasing digital copies weeks before the physical is starting to get on my nerves.

Well it was the fan reaction to BvS that made the studio change Suicide Squad to add more levity. Because of you, the fans. The studio fucked up another film just for you. Be proud guys, now because of that. The STudio is now releasing the movie that would have been seen. Just like BvS, they didn't want a 3 hour film to be released. SO they gutted it. Suicide Squad was changed because of fan reaction to BvS, so they added levity to it.

This strategy is going to backfire on WB. They're creating the perception that their theatrical releases are incomplete, and you need to wait for digital/blu-ray to see the "real" version. Their box office numbers will start to suffer because of this.

I seem to remember indications that in the original version of the movie the Joker appeared again at the court house building with the swirling portal thing above it and tried to get Harley to leave with him. She refused in order to stay with her squad mates and face Enchantress, so Joker threw a smoke grenade to cover his escape (pulling the pin with his teeth; that image was used in the promotional materials for the film), but we don't know how he escaped from the building. Perhaps the image of the figure silhouetted against the lightning is Joker effecting his get away?

What is the point of people going to see these movies based in the dceu in theatres, when the full extended cut of the film will be released in digital/bluray months after? You need to keep up with the DCEU news. Supposedly, this is the last time DC is gonna do it. The only reason is because WB wouldn't let Zack release three hours of Batman v Superman, and David Ayer for some reason had to cut all of Joker's scenes from Suicide Squad. DC has outright stated that this is the last time they'll make that mistake, though, so don't worry about it.
It has actually surfaced a few times on the net that the test audiences found the "mad love" abusive relationship of the original cut at the test screening somewhat uncomfortable, leading WB to panic and significantly tone down that aspect of the film, it looks as if this Ext cut will restore those scenes that Wb had cut/shortened to downplay that aspect.
I'm curious to know how much more is added. If it's only like 10 minutes (which I doubt it will be) then I'll skip digital and only buy a physical copy, but if it's over 20 minutes, then I'll probably end up buying digital and physical copies
I guess some scenes were shown in the cut for Latin America but not U.S. for example the "I can't wait to show you my toys" was shown when I saw the movie in Peru. Plus, the Joker in the white tux, isn't that scene from when Harley is wearing her traditional red, black and white Harley Quinn outfit (which was shown in the theater cut that I saw)?

Ooooh, this looks so good! Round of applause to the editors who cut these trailers, because they are always so good! Honestly, this needs be the last "extended edition" released regarding the DCEU because I don't think that fans will be willing to deal with a theatrical release with incoherent editing and then wait for the proper film with coherent editing to be released on DVD/streaming.
Unlike Batman v Superman ultimate edition I don't think this will change the movie much. With only 13 minutes added back in I don't see it being better. Like you I think there is a better version of the movie in there somewhere but I think maybe it's the original linear version that test screened or It needs to be reedited in to something better.

Joker in the tux( the trailer just showed the shirt and the tie, i think the black outwear is outside that frame) isn't new, it was shown with Harley in that traditional outfit.
I am mostly happy about this, as a DC fan its not like im gonna turn down the opportunity to see more of these characters. However; this better be the last time WB pull this stunt, let the directors release the film they set out to make with no last minute studio interference, though that applies more to BvS than Suicide Squad. What I'm really curious abouts is how much new footage is getting added, I cant imagine that it will be a BVS style ultimate cut with over half an hour new scenes which change the narrative. So maybe around 15 minutes focusing largly on Harley's backstory with Joker, and some additional scenes for other characters (there looked to be a new Katana scene in that trailer).
I think it's not call the "Mad Love" cut because froma business perspective, they would lose on sales. That's because people wouldn't know exactly what that means. When you say extended cut, people know exactly what they are getting into.

SS has a bad writing and horrible editing but the characters design and the aesthetic of the movie is great. I want to see more of Harley and Joker.

Hey Grace, I have a question. What is the point of people going to see these movies based in the dceu in theatres, when the full extended cut of the film will be released in digital/bluray months after? There's just no reason for us to go to the cinemas anymore, if they're not going to show the whole film to us with "*full price admission*".
I just feel kinda cheated. :(
You need to keep up with the DCEU news. Supposedly, this is the last time DC is gonna do it. The only reason is because WB wouldn't let Zack release three hours of Batman v Superman, and David Ayer for some reason had to cut all of Joker's scenes from Suicide Squad. DC has outright stated that this is the last time they'll make that mistake, though, so don't worry about it.
It has actually surfaced a few times on the net that the test audiences found the "mad love" abusive relationship of the original cut at the test screening somewhat uncomfortable, leading WB to panic and significantly tone down that aspect of the film, it looks as if this Ext cut will restore those scenes that Wb had cut/shortened to downplay that aspect.
I'm curious to know how much more is added. If it's only like 10 minutes (which I doubt it will be) then I'll skip digital and only buy a physical copy, but if it's over 20 minutes, then I'll probably end up buying digital and physical copies
I learned my lesson with BVS ultimate edition. longer doesn't mean better.
pish posh and i learned my lesson to; that sometimes longer means better. Of course its all subjective.
I guess some scenes were shown in the cut for Latin America but not U.S. for example the "I can't wait to show you my toys" was shown when I saw the movie in Peru. Plus, the Joker in the white tux, isn't that scene from when Harley is wearing her traditional red, black and white Harley Quinn outfit (which was shown in the theater cut that I saw)?

Honestly, this needs be the last "extended edition" released regarding the DCEU because I don't think that fans will be willing to deal with a theatrical release with incoherent editing and then wait for the proper film with coherent editing to be released on DVD/streaming.

Unlike Batman v Superman ultimate edition I don't think this will change the movie much. With only 13 minutes added back in I don't see it being better. Like you I think there is a better version of the movie in there somewhere but I think maybe it's the original linear version that test screened or It needs to be reedited in to something better.
What is the point of going to see these movies in the cinema if you get extended versions couple of months later on Blu-ray?And what next? Wonder Woman extended cut?

Aside from the helicopter scene - Joker was in that infamous tux costume in the 'snap shot' scene with his arm around Harley Quinn smiling at the camera
If I remember correctly there is a reference to Harley and Joker being the "King and Queen Of crime in Gotham" before they cut to it
4:17 i'm sure you know by now, but we DID see that Joker in the movie.
Joker in the tux( the trailer just showed the shirt and the tie, i think the black outwear is outside that frame) isn't new, it was shown with Harley in that traditional outfit.
I am mostly happy about this, as a DC fan its not like im gonna turn down the opportunity to see more of these characters. However; this better be the last time WB pull this stunt, let the directors release the film they set out to make with no last minute studio interference, though that applies more to BvS than Suicide Squad.
What I'm really curious abouts is how much new footage is getting added, I cant imagine that it will be a BVS style ultimate cut with over half an hour new scenes which change the narrative. So maybe around 15 minutes focusing largly on Harley's backstory with Joker, and some additional scenes for other characters (there looked to be a new Katana scene in that trailer).

I think it's not call the "Mad Love" cut because froma business perspective, they would lose on sales. That's because people wouldn't know exactly what that means. When you say extended cut, people know exactly what they are getting into.

Grace I believe that Joker in a"white tux" is actually the flashback where him and Harley are dancing. You can see her hat's white ball on the side.
in the uk we get this on the 5th December it comes out the same time as agent carter season 2
