I’m guessing they wanted to introduce us to a group of characters instead of just focusing on one/two characters. Kinda like the reverse Marvel universe. Or why they made Justice League before all (minus Superman) their solo movies.

eevvelle* the problem is that, that scene is prior to changes that were made after the test audiences looked at the finished movie. It's a completely different relationship between Harley and joker and it doesn't fit with Harley thinking joker is dead and using that against enchantress, because Harley's there when he throws the grenade and goes on a tirade about batman

I think because the media and internet gave the studio so much grief for cutting the film themselves and then had David Ayer come out and say that this is my cut of the film to appease fans it really stopped them from releasing a "proper" directors cut. So we will probably never see David Ayer's version of the movie, which is a shame really.
Dark film doesn't mean it's better.....most likely would of been boring and offensive to some degree. To be honest I bet the studio did save this film with the graphics they used in the marketing. The script was made in 6weeks so yeah that's the studios fault but don't give Ayer any credit, he took the job knowing well the deadlines and hes said on record that the theatrical cut is his cut. So yeah you won't see Ayer original cut as it was crap.
JONALOTZRH Never said Ayer's version would have been darker, all we can do is guess. I believe that some scenes may have played out longer and given more depth to the characters but the great reaction to the trailers and the poor reaction to BvS most likely made the studio decide to cut the movie more like the trailers, it's quick and snappy with a great soundtrack but isn't very cohesive. I would have loved to see what the director had planned after all if you hire him to write and direct you must have faith in his vision and see it through to the end.
ratslek Well his original film was darker, slipknot and boomerang were rapist and even though as a comicbook fan would of been nice to see the abusive relationship between joker and Harley I think it would of been over the top with men beating up women. Yeah for a film stick with the artist/director but this isn't a film anymore, comicbook movies are a TV show now, always in production. So a studio which is the show runner for these films need to be involved to ride the horse and stir it to the average film goes or this show will be canceled.

Ian Levinson There is no depth, and when they tried it felt shorthanded and cheap. Same goes as to giving us character content; they look like they walked out the comics but the scenes, dialogue, and even delivery (some exceptional moments) were lacking. The scenes that people wanted to see were rushed. And the main storyline was too poorly constructed to be that interesting or gripping. To me all BvS had was tonal issues, which is nothing compared to SS's flaws. But really, it makes no sense how SS would even be considered good by anyone.

Suicide Squad Original run time 123 minutes, the extended cut has 134 minutes of run time. In my hypothetical version i'd ++ add the Harleen/Joker chase scene, alternate version of the chopper scene with the Joker trying to kill Harley, bloodied Joker with smoke grenade, "Can't wait to show you my toys" scene, Katana's sword absorbing the souls of the minions, douchier Boomerang, and hitting on Katana, extended bar scene, David Ayer's cameo, Croc fighting, Croc vomiting on the plane, Harley's wrong diagnosis. - - Cut some scenes from Will Smith, Flag-Moone relationship and cut the entirety of Common's scene from club. Making the movie 10 minutes longer and 10 minutes shorter. My SS version has the same 123 minutes of run time and would be definitely better than the theatrical version and the extended version..

What I found interesting about Jokers 'black hole of confusion' Line was that he could be hinting towards ACTUAL feelings towards Harley which he doesn't like having. Like the joker can't comprehend actually being taken by Harleen and that makes him mad. And the comics always sort of alluded to Harley being BAD at her profession! So while I like your idea of her always getting a diagnosis right, it's hinted that she slept her way through school and was never a real psychiatrist so to speak

Nico 1995 from what I saw I really liked the potential of Leto's interpretation. The only thing that bothered me was Ayer's understanding of Leto and The Joker. I felt Ayer's direction and writing was not strong enough here(at least in the theatrical cut.) I think w this interpretation of Joker and Leto paired w the right director/writer wld make for something nearly as epic as TDK.
david ayer is just no good, look at how he fucked up fury as i was really enjoying the gritty and brutal atmosphere he created in that film but the script on the third act turned into a 12 yearolds playtime with toy soldiers...god i wish they hired Nolan for the DC films, i wouldnt care waiting many years inbetween films as long as we get something worthwhile. WB isn't going to release the actual first cut of the film, as they don't want the audience to like another directors true vision of their films. If WB did release the actual first cut without reshoots, and the audience ended up liking it better. That would just show that they(wb) are the problem, and the not the director's making the films. So of course David Ayer says this is his version of the film. He wants more gigs working with WB's. But there probably is a lot more footage left out. As was the critics who first saw the actual cut noticed a major differences in the Theatrical cut, proves there was a better film. I wished I was there for the actual cut that released pre-reshoots.

one thing I was hoping for was an extended interview between Dr quinzel and joker. Margot Robbie did say in an interview that she looked up a lot of stuff on psychiatrists and had shot leto really random questions to catch him off guard and was saying it played so well on screen then all we got was the kitty scene
I actually thought the deleted scenes with the squad helped to see why they should give a shit about each other by the end. Even if themes were repeated it helped ground the characters. I wanted more Harley and Joker though so that was a disappointment. We need a Mad Love movie with just Joker and Harley. No Sirens, no squad, Batman can be there that's fine. Keep the vat scene but rewrite the rest. Suicide Squad feels like a test for a Harley Quinn movie. She is a powerhouse who can hold her own so putting her with Joker will be solid gold...so long as you have time for a proper script. I'm sure Dini would be on board!

Harley's solo should be Gotham City Sirens. Why is the DCEU trying to make so many " team up " movies ? Suicide Squad , JL , JLD and now Birds of prey the DCEU needs to slow down give some solo films first. I think the Harley solo should have Harley be the star like Deadpool and have Ivy & Catwoman have similar roles to that of Negasonic & Colossus.

Gotham City Sirens is a great comic book, but they just established Joker&HQ as the it-couple, so why pull them apart again. Joker scenes had several minutes that were cut and sewed into scenes with just seconds or one minute at most. Why, oh why they didn’t extend all his scenes? Each one of his scenes had much more footage than the few seconds that we saw in the movie, so why? Where is the line” I can't wait to show you my toys”? Where is the therapy session with Harley and the Joker? Where is the rest f the footage of the car chase scene that we saw in the trailers? Where is all the footage of the electric shock scene?Where is all this and much more?

This is all on WB executives for rushing the script and film, and for changing it when they got negative reviews from BvS. And for having a TRAILER company edit. Every new scene in the extended cut hasn't been destroyed and they are fantastic scenes with an exception of a few.
questions: Is there an additional line (even just one) when Harley and Joker sit in the cell at the very beginning? Are there any additional seconds (even 2-3) during the car chase with Batman? Are the other Joker scenes extended some seconds (even 2-3) to round them up a tiny little bit?
If they cut and changed awesome scenes from the trailers that shouldn’t have been cut or changed like the scene where says “ I 'm not going to kill you, I'm gone hurt you really really bad..,” that was changed for a bad version full of cuts and poor special effects that made the scene look like a hallucination or dream so for me, it was obvious that they wouldn’t extend and improve joker’scenes. The extended scenes just like in the movie were all about Harley and Deadshot. They are the protagonists of this film so it's obviously that the intention of the studio was to highlight Deadshot ( he is the main character of SS) and Harley's scenes and downplayed all the other characters, especially the Joker since he would be an attention stealer and he will not be in the future sequels to attract the public. So The Studios invested everything on Deadshot and Harley because they wanted that the public loved those characters because they are the protagonists of future sequels. Besides, they will have their individual film, so it was important that the public cared about these two new characters.
As much as I LOVED MOS and BVS, I HATED SUICIDE SQUAD all the more. I don't even realize why this movie was made in the first place. I doesn't REALLY NEED to be their. The money could have been used elsewhere on other mainstream DC movies. Plus it's a chopped up movie. WB REALLY REALLY butchered up Ayer's work.

Star Wars Episode 7 got a second release on Blu Ray or is getting it soon and more deleted scenes are going to be added so I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same here. My question is what is still not in the extended edition and if there was such an issue why have scenes like that in the trailers only to not release them?
I think how I viewed Joker's relationship with Harley is that he viewed Harleen and Harley as two different people. He was fine with using Harleen to the extent that he would have left her there, but when she jumps in the Vat, she becomes Harley Quinn which he feels *something* for. Not sure you could call it love, or if the love is a healthy one, but I think he views them as two different people.
Extreme frustrating. I think we all wanted the joker scenes we were promised, good thing I didn't buy it. I'll just wait and buy the physical copy to have it in my collection because I love DC but I'm not happy. Lol get it together WB and I will be very mad if they mess with the Wonder Woman movie.

Here's why I think we didn't get more of the joker stuff that was cut. In very early interviews Ayer said Harley's arc in the film was to become independent from the joker and during the grenade scene she chooses between them and him. There were even many flashbacks where joker is much more violent, slapping Harley, an early screening viewer claimed Joker kills Ike Barinholtz character and we see blood on his face. From that information my guess is that Warner Bros either found that too dark AND/OR they didn't want to end the Joker/Harley relationship in their first movie -- in other words they didn't want to blow their wad too soon and develop the relationship more slowly through the course of future films. If we had seen any more of the cut joker/harley stuff it would've made the ending entirely implausible which with the motorcycle scene some may have gotten that feeling. However, I must say I really enjoyed the extended cut, it added context to a lot of scenes in that didn't make sense in the original cut. The big one I think is when Harley is trying to get into the Squad's heads, manipulating them, and Deadshot tells her to tone it down. That scene makes the moment where Boomerang tells her "why is it always a knife fight with you?!" make a lot more sense. And it cemented various characters motivations more strongly.
extended cut are not supposed to change the film, they are just made to add scenes that they find unnecessary for the film, fans just assume that they were going to get a whole different movie like BvS thanks to the rumors about the different versions, this is just a cash grab, but at least they give us the best version they have in the theatrical cut either if you like or not the film, at least is not necessary to watch this extended cut like BvS. I enjoy both films i found them entertaining.

I wonder how Margot Robbie and Jared Leto feel about carrying on with their characters. Yes, the ticket sales were good, but neither of them missed how their portrayals were shredded. I read that Leto signed a multi-movie contract, but Robbie was only signed on to do the one movie. She may feel that's a gift now!

there are at least two to three versions that were confirmed by previews from test audiences, so yeah the tonal extended scenes are limited and carefully edited to avoid any question of Ayers causing a Josh Trank situation, oh well maybe in 10 years with different studio heads they might re-release a director's cut.

I did not like the theatrical version of Suicide Squad much at all. The villain was beyond corny, the action was lackluster and the characters was very hit and miss. The movie moves along so awkwardly to me too, with poor editing and just awkward scenes that crop up with no real purpose. I also did not like Joker much at all, perhaps with a lot more footage with him in it would change my mind, but I just found him to be a Joker thug, a wannabe and not even close to crazy enough. While the ultimate edition of BvS fixed a lot of the poor editing in the theatrical version, making it way more coherent and giving some of the characters a better place in the movie. But it sounds that the extended edition of Suicide Squad is not much of a win. But I will do as I did with the horrible Iron Man 3, buy it and give it another chance. But it will probably also just end up like IM3, as a stinker in the collection of the franchise.

To each their own, but I would watch any of those over Iron Man 3, by far the worst movie in the MCU. And no, it is not only the twist that is wrong with that movie, even though it was very bad.

hey Grace I just thought of this since the Nintendo classic just came out. One possible reason for the strong DCEU vs. MCU is the cost of each experience. Back when game systems were getting more popular, people had strong loyalty because they could only afford one or the other and not both and in doing so become invested in either a Sega or Nintendo . I offer this theory up with people not able to see both and thus clinging strongly to one series over another
the problem here is that at first you feel like you're going to get the silence of the lambs dynamic between joker and harley, or atleast thats how they sold it. But to do that kind of a thing more time is needed, we needed to see multiple scenes of joker taking apart harley's mind layer by layer like an onion , or the other way roundd i guess if harley messed him up. seems like a missed opportunity, then again thats the kind of thing you can really explore in a solo movie
Not having seen the Extended Cut yet, the description of Joker being all "oh god, not her again" to begin with, then later being all crazy about her; to me is pretty much ANY relationship. We've all had relationships that maybe start out a little rough, but then you wind up in love with them. No relationship is 100% pure love, no matter what Nick Sparks would like people to believe. :-D
Bad?! Bad? The line where she says "my heart scares you but a gun doesn't " is suuuuchhh a good line. Really shows how little he cared for her in the beginning and how he really used her, obviously eventually he begins to care but that's later on
Also I don't think it was sloppy well actually yeah it was sloppy but that's what their relationship is! So it should have been a part of the film instead of showing a full on lovey dovey form of their relationship that's doesn't show what they truly are like together
So, Harley went from being Joker's abused underling fling to pimping the Joker. Anyway, for me the best 2 scenes with Joker and Harley are when she get's the shock therapy and when they're both in the chemical vat and you can hear his lovely laugh.
An easily delete-able digital download, or me driving to the store, picking it up, standing in line, and taking it home........I made the right choice.

I really enjoyed the movie, I haven't seen the extended version but I really really loved Harley (duh) I feel like the rest of the squad was amazing and I ADORED the Joker. I know I'm not in the majority on that one but I really loved their mad love. I don't think you need a full background with them together cause that's what a Harley movie is for 😉😉. Anyway, I really loved it and I hope people give it another shot.
Grace, much has been written regarding the new Ghostbusters movie. For myself, I think the producers needed to deviate a little from the core formula to have a chance of making their own mark on the cinematic landscape. To that end, here is my suggestion for a Ghostbusters relaunch: You make a team comprised of the kid from Sixth Sense, the little girl from Poltergeist, Whoopi and Demi Moore's characters from Ghost (who I'm sure started a Cagney and Lacey type partnership after the movie) and possibly Regan from The Excorcist. All these people have ghost experience and would be well suited for the team, if not each other. However, they would probably be more like Ghost Counselors than Ghost Busters. So the Ghost Busters would be some kind of predators on the etheral plane that our team tries to protect ghosts from. THERE'S your ghost buster reboot!
First, this is not David Ayer's film. It was re-edited/recut by Trailer Park, who also added graphics, music, etc. The David Ayers version DOES exist and was shown to test audiences with good results. (It reportedly is more in keeping with the tone of the first (debuted at) Comic-Con trailer (The "Sweet Dreams" one.) So don't blame Ayers for this theatrical version...blame Warners. Second...how was the 3D for this movie? (That would be the only reason I'd buy the disc.)
I believe that if they wanted to establish all of the characters and their back stories, they should've at least made the Suicide Squad a TV show instead of a movie. That way, many more scenes could've been worked on and could've been extended, rather than establishing one story into one scene.
One thing I have heard and kinda agree with is that DC/WB are too reactionary and don't seem like they have a clear plan. I don't see the point of them making a Birds of Prey/ Harley Quinn film if some of these characters aren't at least addressed in a prior film, like Justice League or the Batfleck film. I really hope they don't just throw that movie on to the big screen with no sensible relationship to the rest of the DCCU. In all honesty as of right now I don't feel like WB is taking this CU seriously, because the construction of this franchise is coming off sloppy and underwhelming, like what I'm afraid they're about to do with the Harry Potter franchise by keeping David Yates on so long.
I feel like I really went to bat for suicide squad and thought the extended cut would give me a little ground to stand on saying it was a good concept that was poorly delivered.... but this definitely didn't do that. it just proved there were more corny lines that were terribly delivered that needed to be re-shot and instead of doing that they just cut them.....

ADD Thom flow of the deleted scenes is great. But they just stick them in with the rest of the bad editing and call it good. Making it very obvious where they've added stuff

Question: are the extended cuts cannon to the continuity of the films? The biggest take away for me here is that the joker has no memories of his past. That may lend creedance to the "Joker is Jason Todd" theory.
He does. He knows the Jason is now Joker. Batman killed the original joker in retaliation for his mentally destroying Jason. According to the theory, anyway.
I didn't love SS theatrical but I did like it, and more importantly I had a blast watching it.... but for anyone to say that BvS theatrical release was better than the Ultimate Cut is ridiculous point blank period.
Tyrone Brown there were things in the TC that worked better than the UC foe BvS such as Africa. The TC emphasised that it was Superman's intervention on foreign soil that was the issue, whereas the UC muddied it by the idea of framing Superman as a killer instead of his intervention resulted in killing.
I was really hoping they would've added something to the whole "the entire squad + soldiers were called in just to get Amanda from one of the topmost floors of a building to the roof for a chopper" plot threads, because overall, that was a REALLY weak reason to make a movie.
Haven't seen it, but from the sound of it, I'm glad they put back A.) Harley spreading the word. It adds levity to the bar scene and the squad's relationship, and ultimately would justify the comment Boomerang made on her. ("Why is it that everytime you open your mouth, something shitty comes out" or sth like that) B.) Flag and Floyd's moments. Their relationship was the most developed in the theatrical, and more of that will ultimately add to the payoff when Flag accepts Floyd after the mission is completed. I don't like A.) Harley getting the diagnostics wrong. There's no reason for them to be wrong, and it detracts from her character and lessens the impact of Boomerang's comment. While the comment still holds its weight, it would hold more weight if Harley hit the pressure point of everyone verbally. Harley gets to cut out the Enchantress's heart because she's verbally smart. There's no reason for it to be all wrong. B.) The on-off Joker-Harley Mad Love. While I absolutely LOVE the scene (I saw it on TH-cam), they cut the scene without tying it to the chemical scene, which happens on the same night as their clothings indicate, and it just detracts from the development and made the changes they made to the movie even more obvious. If they don't replace everything else after that point with the abusive version they already filmed, then there's no point to put this scene in.

After sitting through the completely disrespectful treatment of Superman in BvS and the complete butchering by the WB execs of Suicide Squad theatrical cut, and now this s**t with the padded home edition, it is time we the viewers PUNISH Warner Bros. no buying of tickets for ANY of their movies for the next few months. Hell, you know what? Let's TORRENT their movies. And let them know how much you detest this kind of behavior from the execs.
I figured cause it's suicide squad that they wouldn't delve heavily into Harley and jokers back story, rather just give us a tease, they maybe saving them for their own films. I think even though those two are the popular characters WB are just testing the audience with SS. I hope we get to see more Arkham Asylum in the future too!

Grace. Don't blame David Ayer for cutting the movie. The studio did it. After a year of digging deeply into the details, it was obviously their fault. Right from BvS to Wonder Woman. The studio cut BvS and SS, and tried to cut Wonder Woman.
Dr Quinzel came from a cartoon, so generally a its pretty basic character. Dr Quinzel in written form is capable but slightly naive , the Arkham videogame did a good job in fleshing out that gap of believability. When you add in the ditzy blonde Harley Quinn .... persona to the Dr character, it kinda falls apart... You just really have to know the character to pull it off.
As a family man with limited money and time, I didn't run out and see this at the movies, I knew some enhanced cut would be put out on blu ray. For me its all fresh, looking forward to seeing it for the first time like I did with BvS the Ultimate Edition. BvS Ultimate Edition was one of the Best Super Hero movies made by WB! The Dark Knight, BvS Ultimate Edition, and MOS are the WB's best in my opinion. Looking forward to the SS extended cut and Wonder Woman. Thanks for the breakdown Grace! I was never a big fan of Harly and the SS, lets see what this movies got.
I feel that the movie would have been much better if they had the squad do some missions before the enchantress escaped. That way they could have had back story scenes , action sequences and character development to make the movie go forward.
Extended cut did not do much to improve this film, but then I knew it couldn't. If you didn't enjoy the cinema release, it's unlikely this edition will change your perception. The extra dialogue was a welcome addition, but no amount of extra dialogue could fix the existing issues I had with this film.

I still see this as Warner Brother's fault. This movie was the complete opposite of what David's original vision was. This Trailer Park reshoot bullshit is terrible. They reshoot the scenes, but completely replace them with so called "action scenes" that really aren't action scenes. And they didn't even say that the EA's were EA's.
Thank you for making this video, Grace. I was really hoping all of Joker's scenes from the trailers would be in this extended cut, as well as Katana's scenes from the trailer. I'm very sad and upset that this extended cut is pointless and a waste of money. Warner Bros. had a perfect opportunity to do what they did with the Batman v Superman extended cut and they completely dropped the ball here with the Suicide Squad extended cut. Very disappointing and frustrating.

While ultimately our views of the film are different I absolutely love that comparison between how deadshot never misses a shot Harley should never miss a diagnosis. That would make her more powerful on a psychological level which would not only strengthen her character but I can see them playing with that and using some of it for the humor of the film. I disagree with you on the mad love thing. I think there are some missing conversations that are still not in the movie, and that joker and Harley's relationship in this is different than traditional because because I think he actually cares about her in this movie and it's more Harley confronting him on his fears of letting her in because he doesn't understand love and she makes him uncomfortable. So I think that it fits, because the moment of recognition for joker is when he jumps in after Harley. Before that she's an annoyance to him.And don't forget he was without Harley for a long time in this film, presumably searching for her for a while. So I think it fits. And the black hole of rage and confusion thing, completely over analyzing it. She used ETC on him so she put all his memories in a jumbled mess. Basically he's just angry. I liked the extra interaction with Harley screwing with the squad. I thought it gave some much needed depth. Plus I'm not sure you recognize what's actually happening. Harley's unhappy, so she goes after them to make herself feel better about her own issues surrounding joker which were shown prior. Two Completely unnecessary scenes to remove it. Not really repetitive.
I liked the theatrical version and I really appreciate this one too because it gave me the one thing I really wanted: more El Diablo. I know I'm in the minority here but I really don't care about the Joker. I was satisfied with what I got the first time. My favorite character was Chato & I felt sad leaving the theater knowing that's all we'll get with him (after that ending). I was really happy to get the 'water' line & his extended dialog with the squad in the bar. I really love him & Harley together so seeing him say 'no' to Harley when she approached him to plan the escape and then to accept her backside hug and kiss on the cheek was very heartwarming. All in all, I'm definitely going to buy this version when it will be available. :)

It's a completely different relationship between Harley and joker and it doesn't fit with Harley thinking joker is dead and using that against enchantress, because Harley's there when he throws the grenade and goes on a tirade about batman

I think because the media and internet gave the studio so much grief for cutting the film themselves and then had David Ayer come out and say that this is my cut of the film to appease fans it really stopped them from releasing a "proper" directors cut. So we will probably never see David Ayer's version of the movie, which is a shame really.
Dark film doesn't mean it's better.....most likely would of been boring and offensive to some degree. To be honest I bet the studio did save this film with the graphics they used in the marketing. The script was made in 6weeks so yeah that's the studios fault but don't give Ayer any credit, he took the job knowing well the deadlines and hes said on record that the theatrical cut is his cut. So yeah you won't see Ayer original cut as it was crap.
JONALOTZRH Never said Ayer's version would have been darker, all we can do is guess. I believe that some scenes may have played out longer and given more depth to the characters but the great reaction to the trailers and the poor reaction to BvS most likely made the studio decide to cut the movie more like the trailers, it's quick and snappy with a great soundtrack but isn't very cohesive. I would have loved to see what the director had planned after all if you hire him to write and direct you must have faith in his vision and see it through to the end.
ratslek Well his original film was darker, slipknot and boomerang were rapist and even though as a comicbook fan would of been nice to see the abusive relationship between joker and Harley I think it would of been over the top with men beating up women. Yeah for a film stick with the artist/director but this isn't a film anymore, comicbook movies are a TV show now, always in production. So a studio which is the show runner for these films need to be involved to ride the horse and stir it to the average film goes or this show will be canceled.

Ian Levinson There is no depth, and when they tried it felt shorthanded and cheap. Same goes as to giving us character content; they look like they walked out the comics but the scenes, dialogue, and even delivery (some exceptional moments) were lacking. The scenes that people wanted to see were rushed. And the main storyline was too poorly constructed to be that interesting or gripping. To me all BvS had was tonal issues, which is nothing compared to SS's flaws. But really, it makes no sense how SS would even be considered good by anyone.

In my hypothetical version i'd ++ add the Harleen/Joker chase scene, alternate version of the chopper scene with the Joker trying to kill Harley, bloodied Joker with smoke grenade, "Can't wait to show you my toys" scene, Katana's sword absorbing the souls of the minions, douchier Boomerang, and hitting on Katana, extended bar scene, David Ayer's cameo, Croc fighting, Croc vomiting on the plane, Harley's wrong diagnosis.
- - Cut some scenes from Will Smith, Flag-Moone relationship and cut the entirety of Common's scene from club.
Making the movie 10 minutes longer and 10 minutes shorter. My SS version has the same 123 minutes of run time and would be definitely better than the theatrical version and the extended version..

What I found interesting about Jokers 'black hole of confusion' Line was that he could be hinting towards ACTUAL feelings towards Harley which he doesn't like having. Like the joker can't comprehend actually being taken by Harleen and that makes him mad. And the comics always sort of alluded to Harley being BAD at her profession! So while I like your idea of her always getting a diagnosis right, it's hinted that she slept her way through school and was never a real psychiatrist so to speak
I really didn't like this movie. But almost all of my friends and family did, being the one person on a side sucks lol. Nice to have people who agree. They completely ruined Harley and Joker's relationship, and I hate almost everything about Jared Leto's Joker.

Nico 1995 from what I saw I really liked the potential of Leto's interpretation. The only thing that bothered me was Ayer's understanding of Leto and The Joker. I felt Ayer's direction and writing was not strong enough here(at least in the theatrical cut.) I think w this interpretation of Joker and Leto paired w the right director/writer wld make for something nearly as epic as TDK.

If WB did release the actual first cut without reshoots, and the audience ended up liking it better. That would just show that they(wb) are the problem, and the not the director's making the films.
So of course David Ayer says this is his version of the film. He wants more gigs working with WB's. But there probably is a lot more footage left out.
As was the critics who first saw the actual cut noticed a major differences in the Theatrical cut, proves there was a better film. I wished I was there for the actual cut that released pre-reshoots.

one thing I was hoping for was an extended interview between Dr quinzel and joker. Margot Robbie did say in an interview that she looked up a lot of stuff on psychiatrists and had shot leto really random questions to catch him off guard and was saying it played so well on screen then all we got was the kitty scene
I actually thought the deleted scenes with the squad helped to see why they should give a shit about each other by the end. Even if themes were repeated it helped ground the characters. I wanted more Harley and Joker though so that was a disappointment. We need a Mad Love movie with just Joker and Harley. No Sirens, no squad, Batman can be there that's fine. Keep the vat scene but rewrite the rest.
Suicide Squad feels like a test for a Harley Quinn movie. She is a powerhouse who can hold her own so putting her with Joker will be solid gold...so long as you have time for a proper script. I'm sure Dini would be on board!

Harley's solo should be Gotham City Sirens. Why is the DCEU trying to make so many " team up " movies ? Suicide Squad , JL , JLD and now Birds of prey the DCEU needs to slow down give some solo films first. I think the Harley solo should have Harley be the star like Deadpool and have Ivy & Catwoman have similar roles to that of Negasonic & Colossus.
agreed, Birds of prey sounds awful. Besides, after Waller's line "I've eaten many canaries" I thought Black Canary is dead. Gotham City Sirens is a great comic book, but they just established Joker&HQ as the it-couple, so why pull them apart again. Especially for Catwoman and Ivy, both characters have been done so bad in their cinematic versions. Whatever they will do will probably be VERY different from the comics.

Joker scenes had several minutes that were cut and sewed into scenes with just seconds or one minute at most. Why, oh why they didn’t extend all his scenes? Each one of his scenes had much more footage than the few seconds that we saw in the movie, so why? Where is the line” I can't wait to show you my toys”? Where is the therapy session with Harley and the Joker? Where is the rest f the footage of the car chase scene that we saw in the trailers? Where is all the footage of the electric shock scene?Where is all this and much more?

This is all on WB executives for rushing the script and film, and for changing it when they got negative reviews from BvS. And for having a TRAILER company edit. Every new scene in the extended cut hasn't been destroyed and they are fantastic scenes with an exception of a few.

BvS clearly defined itself as a true cut. Suicide Squad only ever advertised itself as an extended cut, not a director's cut or an ultimate edition
If they cut and changed awesome scenes from the trailers that shouldn’t have been cut or changed like the scene where says “ I 'm not going to kill you, I'm gone hurt you really really bad..,” that was changed for a bad version full of cuts and poor special effects that made the scene look like a hallucination or dream so for me, it was obvious that they wouldn’t extend and improve joker’scenes.
The extended scenes just like in the movie were all about Harley and Deadshot. They are the protagonists of this film so it's obviously that the intention of the studio was to highlight Deadshot ( he is the main character of SS) and Harley's scenes and downplayed all the other characters, especially the Joker since he would be an attention stealer and he will not be in the future sequels to attract the public. So The Studios invested everything on Deadshot and Harley because they wanted that the public loved those characters because they are the protagonists of future sequels. Besides, they will have their individual film, so it was important that the public cared about these two new characters.
As much as I LOVED MOS and BVS, I HATED SUICIDE SQUAD all the more.

It would of most likely been boring and quite offensive film with slipknot being a rapist and saying horrible things to women. The only really good thing about this film is graphics they used in the marketing. And before you say, theatrical cut I thought was alright for a 80s action film. It's a fine movie. End of the day the script was only made in 6 weeks so it was the studios fault but let's not give credit to Ayer. The theatrical cut was his cut, he's put his name to it.

Star Wars Episode 7 got a second release on Blu Ray or is getting it soon and more deleted scenes are going to be added so I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same here. My question is what is still not in the extended edition and if there was such an issue why have scenes like that in the trailers only to not release them?
I think how I viewed Joker's relationship with Harley is that he viewed Harleen and Harley as two different people. He was fine with using Harleen to the extent that he would have left her there, but when she jumps in the Vat, she becomes Harley Quinn which he feels *something* for. Not sure you could call it love, or if the love is a healthy one, but I think he views them as two different people.
Extreme frustrating. I think we all wanted the joker scenes we were promised, good thing I didn't buy it. I'll just wait and buy the physical copy to have it in my collection because I love DC but I'm not happy. Lol get it together WB and I will be very mad if they mess with the Wonder Woman movie.

Here's why I think we didn't get more of the joker stuff that was cut. In very early interviews Ayer said Harley's arc in the film was to become independent from the joker and during the grenade scene she chooses between them and him. There were even many flashbacks where joker is much more violent, slapping Harley, an early screening viewer claimed Joker kills Ike Barinholtz character and we see blood on his face. From that information my guess is that Warner Bros either found that too dark AND/OR they didn't want to end the Joker/Harley relationship in their first movie -- in other words they didn't want to blow their wad too soon and develop the relationship more slowly through the course of future films. If we had seen any more of the cut joker/harley stuff it would've made the ending entirely implausible which with the motorcycle scene some may have gotten that feeling. However, I must say I really enjoyed the extended cut, it added context to a lot of scenes in that didn't make sense in the original cut. The big one I think is when Harley is trying to get into the Squad's heads, manipulating them, and Deadshot tells her to tone it down. That scene makes the moment where Boomerang tells her "why is it always a knife fight with you?!" make a lot more sense. And it cemented various characters motivations more strongly.
extended cut are not supposed to change the film, they are just made to add scenes that they find unnecessary for the film, fans just assume that they were going to get a whole different movie like BvS thanks to the rumors about the different versions, this is just a cash grab, but at least they give us the best version they have in the theatrical cut either if you like or not the film, at least is not necessary to watch this extended cut like BvS. I enjoy both films i found them entertaining.

there are at least two to three versions that were confirmed by previews from test audiences, so yeah the tonal extended scenes are limited and carefully edited to avoid any question of Ayers causing a Josh Trank situation, oh well maybe in 10 years with different studio heads they might re-release a director's cut.

I did not like the theatrical version of Suicide Squad much at all. The villain was beyond corny, the action was lackluster and the characters was very hit and miss. The movie moves along so awkwardly to me too, with poor editing and just awkward scenes that crop up with no real purpose.
I also did not like Joker much at all, perhaps with a lot more footage with him in it would change my mind, but I just found him to be a Joker thug, a wannabe and not even close to crazy enough. While the ultimate edition of BvS fixed a lot of the poor editing in the theatrical version, making it way more coherent and giving some of the characters a better place in the movie. But it sounds that the extended edition of Suicide Squad is not much of a win. But I will do as I did with the horrible Iron Man 3, buy it and give it another chance. But it will probably also just end up like IM3, as a stinker in the collection of the franchise.

hey Grace I just thought of this since the Nintendo classic just came out. One possible reason for the strong DCEU vs. MCU is the cost of each experience. Back when game systems were getting more popular, people had strong loyalty because they could only afford one or the other and not both and in doing so become invested in either a Sega or Nintendo . I offer this theory up with people not able to see both and thus clinging strongly to one series over another
the problem here is that at first you feel like you're going to get the silence of the lambs dynamic between joker and harley, or atleast thats how they sold it. But to do that kind of a thing more time is needed, we needed to see multiple scenes of joker taking apart harley's mind layer by layer like an onion , or the other way roundd i guess if harley messed him up. seems like a missed opportunity, then again thats the kind of thing you can really explore in a solo movie
Not having seen the Extended Cut yet, the description of Joker being all "oh god, not her again" to begin with, then later being all crazy about her; to me is pretty much ANY relationship. We've all had relationships that maybe start out a little rough, but then you wind up in love with them. No relationship is 100% pure love, no matter what Nick Sparks would like people to believe. :-D
Bad?! Bad? The line where she says "my heart scares you but a gun doesn't " is suuuuchhh a good line. Really shows how little he cared for her in the beginning and how he really used her, obviously eventually he begins to care but that's later on
Also I don't think it was sloppy well actually yeah it was sloppy but that's what their relationship is! So it should have been a part of the film instead of showing a full on lovey dovey form of their relationship that's doesn't show what they truly are like together
So, Harley went from being Joker's abused underling fling to pimping the Joker. Anyway, for me the best 2 scenes with Joker and Harley are when she get's the shock therapy and when they're both in the chemical vat and you can hear his lovely laugh.
An easily delete-able digital download, or me driving to the store, picking it up, standing in line, and taking it home........I made the right choice.

I really enjoyed the movie, I haven't seen the extended version but I really really loved Harley (duh) I feel like the rest of the squad was amazing and I ADORED the Joker. I know I'm not in the majority on that one but I really loved their mad love. I don't think you need a full background with them together cause that's what a Harley movie is for 😉😉. Grace, much has been written regarding the new Ghostbusters movie. For myself, I think the producers needed to deviate a little from the core formula to have a chance of making their own mark on the cinematic landscape. To that end, here is my suggestion for a Ghostbusters relaunch: You make a team comprised of the kid from Sixth Sense, the little girl from Poltergeist, Whoopi and Demi Moore's characters from Ghost (who I'm sure started a Cagney and Lacey type partnership after the movie) and possibly Regan from The Excorcist. All these people have ghost experience and would be well suited for the team, if not each other. However, they would probably be more like Ghost Counselors than Ghost Busters. So the Ghost Busters would be some kind of predators on the etheral plane that our team tries to protect ghosts from. THERE'S your ghost buster reboot!
First, this is not David Ayer's film. It was re-edited/recut by Trailer Park, who also added graphics, music, etc. The David Ayers version DOES exist and was shown to test audiences with good results. (It reportedly is more in keeping with the tone of the first (debuted at) Comic-Con trailer (The "Sweet Dreams" one.) So don't blame Ayers for this theatrical version...blame Warners.
Second...how was the 3D for this movie? (That would be the only reason I'd buy the disc.)
I believe that if they wanted to establish all of the characters and their back stories, they should've at least made the Suicide Squad a TV show instead of a movie. That way, many more scenes could've been worked on and could've been extended, rather than establishing one story into one scene.
One thing I have heard and kinda agree with is that DC/WB are too reactionary and don't seem like they have a clear plan.
I don't see the point of them making a Birds of Prey/ Harley Quinn film if some of these characters aren't at least addressed in a prior film, like Justice League or the Batfleck film.
I really hope they don't just throw that movie on to the big screen with no sensible relationship to the rest of the DCCU.
In all honesty as of right now I don't feel like WB is taking this CU seriously, because the construction of this franchise is coming off sloppy and underwhelming, like what I'm afraid they're about to do with the Harry Potter franchise by keeping David Yates on so long.
I feel like I really went to bat for suicide squad and thought the extended cut would give me a little ground to stand on saying it was a good concept that was poorly delivered.... but this definitely didn't do that. it just proved there were more corny lines that were terribly delivered that needed to be re-shot and instead of doing that they just cut them.....

ADD Thom flow of the deleted scenes is great. But they just stick them in with the rest of the bad editing and call it good. Making it very obvious where they've added stuff

I didn't love SS theatrical but I did like it, and more importantly I had a blast watching it.... but for anyone to say that BvS theatrical release was better than the Ultimate Cut is ridiculous point blank period.

The TC emphasised that it was Superman's intervention on foreign soil that was the issue, whereas the UC muddied it by the idea of framing Superman as a killer instead of his intervention resulted in killing.

I was really hoping they would've added something to the whole "the entire squad + soldiers were called in just to get Amanda from one of the topmost floors of a building to the roof for a chopper" plot threads, because overall, that was a REALLY weak reason to make a movie.

A.) Harley spreading the word. It adds levity to the bar scene and the squad's relationship, and ultimately would justify the comment Boomerang made on her. ("Why is it that everytime you open your mouth, something shitty comes out" or sth like that)
B.) Flag and Floyd's moments. Their relationship was the most developed in the theatrical, and more of that will ultimately add to the payoff when Flag accepts Floyd after the mission is completed.
I don't like
A.) Harley getting the diagnostics wrong. There's no reason for them to be wrong, and it detracts from her character and lessens the impact of Boomerang's comment. While the comment still holds its weight, it would hold more weight if Harley hit the pressure point of everyone verbally. Harley gets to cut out the Enchantress's heart because she's verbally smart. There's no reason for it to be all wrong.
B.) The on-off Joker-Harley Mad Love. While I absolutely LOVE the scene (I saw it on TH-cam), they cut the scene without tying it to the chemical scene, which happens on the same night as their clothings indicate, and it just detracts from the development and made the changes they made to the movie even more obvious. If they don't replace everything else after that point with the abusive version they already filmed, then there's no point to put this scene in.
I never saw the regular version. But, I did really enjoyed the extended cut B+.

After sitting through the completely disrespectful treatment of Superman in BvS and the complete butchering by the WB execs of Suicide Squad theatrical cut, and now this s**t with the padded home edition, it is time we the viewers PUNISH Warner Bros. no buying of tickets for ANY of their movies for the next few months. Hell, you know what? Let's TORRENT their movies. And let them know how much you detest this kind of behavior from the execs.

Dr Quinzel came from a cartoon, so generally a its pretty basic character. Dr Quinzel in written form is capable but slightly naive , the Arkham videogame did a good job in fleshing out that gap of believability. When you add in the ditzy blonde Harley Quinn .... persona to the Dr character, it kinda falls apart... You just really have to know the character to pull it off.

As a family man with limited money and time, I didn't run out and see this at the movies, I knew some enhanced cut would be put out on blu ray. For me its all fresh, looking forward to seeing it for the first time like I did with BvS the Ultimate Edition. BvS Ultimate Edition was one of the Best Super Hero movies made by WB! The Dark Knight, BvS Ultimate Edition, and MOS are the WB's best in my opinion. Looking forward to the SS extended cut and Wonder Woman. Thanks for the breakdown Grace! I was never a big fan of Harly and the SS, lets see what this movies got.
I feel that the movie would have been much better if they had the squad do some missions before the enchantress escaped. That way they could have had back story scenes , action sequences and character development to make the movie go forward.
Extended cut did not do much to improve this film, but then I knew it couldn't. If you didn't enjoy the cinema release, it's unlikely this edition will change your perception. The extra dialogue was a welcome addition, but no amount of extra dialogue could fix the existing issues I had with this film.

I still see this as Warner Brother's fault. This movie was the complete opposite of what David's original vision was. This Trailer Park reshoot bullshit is terrible. They reshoot the scenes, but completely replace them with so called "action scenes" that really aren't action scenes. And they didn't even say that the EA's were EA's.
Thank you for making this video, Grace. I was really hoping all of Joker's scenes from the trailers would be in this extended cut, as well as Katana's scenes from the trailer. I'm very sad and upset that this extended cut is pointless and a waste of money. Warner Bros. had a perfect opportunity to do what they did with the Batman v Superman extended cut and they completely dropped the ball here with the Suicide Squad extended cut. Very disappointing and frustrating.

While ultimately our views of the film are different I absolutely love that comparison between how deadshot never misses a shot Harley should never miss a diagnosis. That would make her more powerful on a psychological level which would not only strengthen her character but I can see them playing with that and using some of it for the humor of the film. I disagree with you on the mad love thing. I think there are some missing conversations that are still not in the movie, and that joker and Harley's relationship in this is different than traditional because because I think he actually cares about her in this movie and it's more Harley confronting him on his fears of letting her in because he doesn't understand love and she makes him uncomfortable. So I think that it fits, because the moment of recognition for joker is when he jumps in after Harley. Before that she's an annoyance to him.And don't forget he was without Harley for a long time in this film, presumably searching for her for a while. So I think it fits. And the black hole of rage and confusion thing, completely over analyzing it. She used ETC on him so she put all his memories in a jumbled mess. Basically he's just angry. I liked the extra interaction with Harley screwing with the squad. I thought it gave some much needed depth. Plus I'm not sure you recognize what's actually happening. Harley's unhappy, so she goes after them to make herself feel better about her own issues surrounding joker which were shown prior. Two Completely unnecessary scenes to remove it. Not really repetitive.
I liked the theatrical version and I really appreciate this one too because it gave me the one thing I really wanted: more El Diablo. I know I'm in the minority here but I really don't care about the Joker. I was satisfied with what I got the first time. My favorite character was Chato & I felt sad leaving the theater knowing that's all we'll get with him (after that ending). I was really happy to get the 'water' line & his extended dialog with the squad in the bar. I really love him & Harley together so seeing him say 'no' to Harley when she approached him to plan the escape and then to accept her backside hug and kiss on the cheek was very heartwarming. All in all, I'm definitely going to buy this version when it will be available. :)
