#reaction #tvshow #review As much as I enjoyed this show there was a few too many things I didn't enjoy so I thought I'd share my opinion here Sub if you miss Final Space...
So everyone is free to have their own thoughts and opinions obviously, but I've got to say, i disagree immensely, especially with your analysis of episode 5. Episode 5 didn't ruin the revenge through-line. It realligned it. At this point in the story, the audience believes Mizu is after revenge for the death of her mother. But this episode shows that she doesn't really care about her mothers death at all anymore. This a story where Mizu is taking revenge for being born. She hates herself and believes herself to be a monster that even a mother couldn't love. She lost the love of her life, her mother, her dignity, self respect, home and all she had, all in this episode, and its this realignment of the revenge narrative that hits home for so many. She fights as hard as she does because she wants to punish the ones who brought her into this world, and if she dies trying, oh well, because she doesn't believe herself to be worthy of living in this world, since, in her mind, shes a blight on everyone shes ever come to know. Sorry about the rant, and once again, not everyone can or even should completely agree about everything regarding a specific piece of art, but i just wanted to throw my two cents into the ring. Hope you have a Merry Christmas!
I get your point but the first 3 eps are set in the future where she already knows her mother is dead and not from the fire, so its abit misleading to have that as one of the main drives for the revenge when it wasn't really at all. I agree they fight now because they had nothing left to live for but it just felt like bad writing to have it so her mum wasnt actually dead at the time you're led to believe it. Yes her motive is to kill the 4 white men in Japan but the secondary motive was her mother dying and her being alone and left to fend for herself. Yeah absolutely, appreciate your comment and like you say you're entitled to your opinion as much as I am mine. Merry Christmas to you too!
@weightinglist but that's the thing, her secondary motive was never actually to take revenge for the death of her mother. If im playing devils advocate here, i could see how one could say "We were led to believe so, and the writers tricked us into believing a false presentation of the story", and you could absolutely consider that "bad writing," I suppose. Its that dreaded term of "subverting expectations" that's at play. Sometimes, it works really well (positive examples would be media like Shutter Island, Joker, or Game of Thrones), sometimes not so much (negative examples could include The Last Jedi, half of M. Night Shyamalan's films, and funnily enough Game of Thrones). I think it's all coming down to personal preference. Thinking this was a mission of righteous vengeance for the death of a mother and the desecration of the protagonists entire life, and finding out that instead it's a suicidal, nihilistic mission of a poor woman who has lost the belief that life is worth living after she briefly experienced happiness for the first time in her life, the subversion worked for me. I may not agree with you, but i appreciate the argument of a different opinion. You got a like and a subscription from me man, especially for being willing to have an honest conversation/debate with your viewers, looking forward to seeing more from you!
I get where you're coming from completely, guess its open to interpretation isn't it. Yeah definitely it can be done in a way that works like you say, personally I didn't think it worked for me but I can understand your point of view for sure! Thank you, appreciate it and always willing to have these conversations, thats what its all about for me. I'm happy to discuss things no end and youve done a damn site better than some people who say "you're wrong" but never actually counter anything haha. Thank you for the support, happy to have you as a sub!
when making animation for adults, then the story should be more realistic. Mizu entering the castle ist too much, as well as the very end, when fowler, who has been "imprisoned" for 10 years, sees his attack failing, immediately enters in conversation with Mizu about London, and then lets Mizu imprison him again in a boat? too much (but sorry, it wasnt her husband who betrayed her, he was just too cowardish. It was her "mother")
This story is far from realism for the most part considering Mizu kills the thousand claw army by herself. Why would he even stop to have the conversation when any other time in the show he's shown to be as ruthless as possible and doesn't hesitate to kill, he could easily have escaped considering Mizu escaped with him as a captive. They left it ambiguous for who betrayed her so that's not exactly true.
"when making animation for adults, then the story should be more realistic" People who complain about action scenes not being realistic are people who have never watched action movies/shows
@@hermanngmeiner9302 Main characters having plot armour is the norm. Not the exception. The alternative is to just kill of main characters just to "align" with reality. If every story thought that way, we'd have no protagonists in our stories. It's stilly.
@LW1Tok I completely agree but it's the way in which it is written thats important, this felt very much pick and chose when Mizu was injured and when she wasn't. Instead of picking either shes badly injured so she cant carry on or not badly inured enough from something that's worse, i.e being crushed to death by Fowler
“But all main characters have plot armor” 🤓 Yeah, but it’s your job as a storyteller to make it not look and sound obvious. If you notice it in the moment it’s bad writing. Full stop.
People who complain about plot armour are people who haven't watched enough action movies or shows. Unless you really out here thinking the John Wick movies would be better if John Wick just died. Or Aragorn from LotR. Or any other action protagonist. If more stories had more realistic plot armour, they protagonists would be dead in the first five minutes of any story. Realism is not the storytelling virtue you think it is.

@Weary_Wizard I see your point its not the most accurate, I guess its technically possible for someone to be held prisoner at that time. Yeah that bit didnt make a whole lot of sense tbh just felt unnecessary tbh. Not sure what the second season has to offer but hope its better...
My god thank you… it’s not bad, for sure. And I’m happy we’re getting more animation like it, but people think this is some deep and riveting story.. it’s not. It’s very bland, unless you get hard for woke checklist bullet points. Sorry, but I’m not such a cheap date. Looks great, has a fantastic coat of paint. People were saying it’s better than Arcane (season one at the time) and that’s when I knew they had bad and not well thought out opinions. You can like BES more because of preference to the setting and themes, but its not better than Arcane, which is excellence on every measurable level.
Finally someone who gets it! It is not better than arcane season 1 by any means, the story and character development in Arcane far exceeds anything shown in BES. It's not a bad show just seems overrated in my opinion, especially compared with other animations such as Arcane and Scavengers Reign.
@testing85 I mean it was one of the main factors for her revenge in the first few episodes coupled with the "four white men" in Japan, so yes, yes it was.
No it's just annoying that it was shown to be one of the major driving factors for the revenge in the first few episodes which are set after the events of the bride and the ronin, where her mum is already properly dead and not by fire
