  • GE, Samsung, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, Kenmore, KitchenAid, Maytag it’s all the same DIY fix.
    1. Clogged Water Filter - If not maintained this can stop water flow. You can usually purchase a new filter for between $30- $50. This should be changed out approx. every 6 months. If you have hard water you may want to change it even more often. (If there is a lot of new construction in your area, there can be more sediment entering the water system. This extra sediment can clog filter more frequently)
    2. Water Supply Line - clogged, kinked, or broken water inlet house and valve. (unplug the refrigerator and turn off the valve’s water supply. Unhook the supply line from the fridge and point it into a sink or bucket and turn the water supply back on to make sure water is flowing) Check the filter at the point of entry into your fridge to make sure there is nothing clogging the line.
    3. Faulty Water Inlet Valve - Frozen Water inside the supply tube, reservoir, down the back of your freezer, or an ice puddle at the bottom of your freezer. - Usually caused by a lack of water pressure due to a faulty Water Inlet Valve. This can be defrosted by turning off the freezer for about 20 minutes and using a hair dryer to make the process even quicker. Once line is thawed you can instal the new Water Inlet Valve and turn it back on.
    I bought my specific one on Amazon Canada 🇨🇦 for $130 CDN

    You have saved me $$$, and I thank you! Late last year, I paid a tech to diagnose why my icemaker was not functioning correctly. (Ice waterfall in the back of my freezer would freeze the door in place and sometimes disallow its full closure--thus thawing ice, etc.). He popped in a new icemaker without any troubleshooting whatsoever. Problem NOT solved. Ice river formed again, etc., etc. After hours of narrowing my search (and learning the correct terminology), I landed on your video. THIS IS IT.
    Thank you, thank you, thank you! Excellent, clear, well-articulated video and instructions. Bravo!

    Hi Mike
    I have the same refrigerator. My ice maker appears to have the harvest paddles stopped pointing up. When I run the diagnostic nothing happens. Temp is at -4. Is this an internal failure? Whirlpool I have dealt with. But my first GE. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I have one question: I have a Kenmore 253.7041941C (French door, inside icemaker ONLY--no water to the door); however, all the parts lists on the Kenmore site show the piece that supplies water to the icemaker and the door. I don't want water shooting out from unused ports! :) Any suggestions?

    My 14 year old Whirlpool fridge recently stopped making ice so I found that the ice maker was completely coated in ice. Took it apart to melt it all out and dried it out, then put back in. First fill of water overflowed a ton of water, which is probably what caused the problem in the first place. Cleaned again and monitored this time. When I heard it fill the tray, the valve sounded like it stayed open for at least twice as long as it normally did in the past few years. Would a faulty valve be slow to close? Or is there some electronics issue telling it to stay open longer?

    I’m not getting any water into my fridge at all. I can see the nipple in the valve holding water after removing water line. When I removed the water line and tried dispensing water, it pushed the water out the inlet valve..

    • @Josh-fz9rh
      @Josh-fz9rh ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is this inlet valve responsible for sucking the water into the fridge? I disconnected the feed tubes at connects halfway up the fridge and still felt no suction while trying to dispense water.

    • @mikebikercanada
      @mikebikercanada  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Josh, I don’t have a water dispenser. Just an ice maker. But I would say that this sounds like the water inlet valve as the issue. I think it’s definitely worth trying to replace that first.

    I bought a refrigerator in 2019. I never had water connected to it. I connected water today and water was just continuously flowing out of the ice maker.

    • @verasmayhem
      @verasmayhem 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Another source suggested as a trouble shooting step that if the power was disconnected and the water continued to flow the issue would likely be the water inlet valve. Would you agree with this and do you have any ideas why my valve would be faulty having never used water with my refrigerator before?
