Wished we could have had episode 3 of Sindhu Bhairavi classicsm extended. As the sea waves rise and greet the moon on every pournami, Jannal oram episodes always create mystique effects on my thoughts, mood and emotions. Some episodes feel like we are sitting by the dazzling warmth of a campfire on a cold wintery night, enjoying the bright red-orange flames blazing higher and higher as Guru Charan sings and sometimes we can even feel the deeply intoxicating fumes of burning wood as he touches certain specific information in the theme / movie/ the visual scene / audio song/ sound track/ bgm as he sings in coherence. Many episodes are as divine as a warn cup of tea prepared by our mother on a feverish day when we hardly have the energy to get up and face the world... Having said this much - Sikkil Guru Charan avgl himself knows better why am requesting episode 3. Or may be since Jannal oram is so close to my heart I feel like a 7 year old kid in a giant wheel merry-go-round asking "avlo dhaana - innoru round polama" on a very enthusiastic, childish note...

I grew up listening to Ilayaraja sir s music and i still listen to all his songs every day.. his brilliance in using carnatic ragas are mind-blowing and can't imagine how he could do such things.. one thing I want to highlight in Mari Mari song - in second charanam he used a very quick portion of thodi.. "sonnadhu thappa thappa".. thanks so much sir for your nuances.. very happy to listen to such videos..to wat i remember i watched this movie more than 50 times and everytime i watch i only look for such raga based nuances.. i feel very glad to say am one of the die hard fan of Ilayaraja..
Not only you I am listening raja malayalam and telegu movie songs. Please hear endharo mahanubhavulu which is a duet song. Film ashok chakravarthi telugu. Allipoove mallipoove malayalam song. Please hear both
just Wah ! By detailing the amount of effort going into making songs and BGM to reflect the context and characters, you make us wonder the genius of Raja sir more and more ! The tit bit on the choice of ragam Kaapi was as apt as humorous. Loved watching it ! God bless !
You have remembered again sindhu bharavi movie carnatic song and sindhu bharavi acted all character thanks for that gurucharan sir .Sindhu bharavi was my favorite movie in carnatic side for me.

Was waiting to hear about the taanam he sings on the sea shore. Missed that. Moham ennum theeyil yen manam vendhu vendhu urugum. Again brilliant by Raja Sir and KJY

Once again brilliant analysis. Amazing to know how Raja has used graha bhedam in Kalyani to transform into sindhubhairavi. This is also a great example of a good story/situations that can inspire a composer to come up with such great and unique music. It is not normal to expect a brilliant transition from Kalyani to sindhubhairavi unless the story demands/ inspires such transformation. Hats off to Raja, KB and of course to Sikkil for bringing us such nuances without much sikkal 🙏
SG.. what you hit is the emotion. Simply outstanding segment. I have felt every emotion without knowing the technicalities. you have certainly detailed it so clearly. Eternally grateful to your contribution. Thank you so much!!!
I saw the movie again today after say 25 to 30yrs watching both these videos thrice. Now the question is should I be wowed by KB/ Raja/ Sivakumar /Suhasini/ Sulokshana combo or Gurucharan analysis . The answer is both. What a movie way ahead of its time and what an analysis by Guru. I will recommend these videos atleast to 10 ppl and make them watch it
You are making me feel happy by posting wonderful carnatic movie song and character sharing experience from tamil movie for that i can five star rating always Gurucharan sir.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Scintillating and outstanding Gurucharan ❤️❤️❤️ Loved your treatise very much 👌👍👏 Superb demonstrations- amazing violin demo by Sayee Rakshith - thoroughly engaging and educational episode! Sabaash 👍👏👏👏👏
Legends are legends, but seriously movies like these are the last of their sort? Would anybody dare to do such creations in future? Like you rightly said, the respect for art will make these masterpieces live forever.. eventually your Jannal Oram as well...🙌 Waiting for the other two movies as well 😀
Oh! What a joy! This movie has bothered (in an extremely positive way) for years. I am just an ordinary commoner. But a lover of Karnatic. With amma, akka everyone singing, there is an inherent initiation into the world of classical music. But the nuances and genius of the director, the writer, the composer and the singer come together with the extra-ordinary abilities of a photographer (video) and the editor. Of course, the actors bring life to the combination. The "vaachaam-agOchara" experience is what I had been struggling to explain to anyone. You, Sir, with your great voice, superb knowledge of music and excellent language bring about a thoroughly enjoyable analysis. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Like the movie that has stayed in the hearts for over 25+ years, your analysis will be part of the movie for all lovers of movies and music like me. One small addition to the repertoire of information (from my own reading) - the fisherman part is somewhat a copy of a section from Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" where Hank Rearden creates a new metal that is beyond the strengths of normal metal. They make a chain out of it. His wife refuses to wear it (comparable to Bhairavi). The one who understands the value of it is Dagny Taggart who is comparable to Sindhu in some sense. ( Similes / Upamaas are not supposed to full but only a particular virtue). When I watched the reactions of Bhairavi and Sindhu to the sangumaalai that the fisherman gives, this came to my mind. AGAIN, A BIG THANK YOU.
Great that someone like you did it. Not a Tamilian but I enjoyed the proceedings. You explained it with all the demonstrations as if everything happened so easily & automatically. Perhaps they didn't. Music was just a part of the movie. Imagine those brainstorming sessions that would have happened amongst KB, Raja, the lyricists & the actual artists who would live those emotions on screen. Very complex indeed. Even with all your knowledge of musical analytics, you may not be able to re create a "Sindhubhairavi- like" product. That's when we approach "whole is not equal to merely the sum of it's parts" Good work. Keep up. Please do concentrate on other related departments also while highlighting "music" & saying this with all love & devotion to Music
Poomalai Vangi Vandhal..My favourite song tuned in the raga Dharbari Kanada..❤❤ Rather than KJ Yesudas's voice your voice sounded so pure in this song..Thanks for the few verses..❤❤

Pranams Sikkil Sir. My sangu maalai would be Sashtanga Namaskaram to you Sir. Genius touch - Kalaivaniye explained in a Carnatic way with sarali varisai. This further emphasizes your efforts to provide something new which others have not given Humble suggestion - thom thom thom tha nantha thom, moham ennum theeyil en manam was touched in your prior thanam episode, could have been detailed in this episode adding Kanakangi vivadhi ragam details We sincerely hope this continues amidst your busy Carnatic singing schedule into a full fledged worldwide concert. And hopefully Ilaiyaraja Sir comes with a statement of praise for you Sir as he did for Ranjani Gayathri in that concert.
It is a skill and a blessing to be able to convey and transfer one’s own passion, enjoyment and understanding on any experience to an audience just through words. Thank you again for a wonderful episode ! I always felt that only a very small percentage of the intended music by the artist reaches the audience. You have helped close that gap today. This might apply to your music too. I don’t think the audience and the artist will be at the same level. It also can’t be far apart. Your analysis as usual is great. There is one scene early in the movie where JKB comes in search of Bairavi and she will be bathing the little kids. There is a small snippet of music there that has never left my head. Overall, your explanation is very good. We need more and more of LecDems to bridge the gap. Keep it coming

Completely awestruck by your research on the music by Raja sir in the film Sindhubhairavi. Anyone is easily impressed by the songs in the film.. but going deep into the songs, the situation for selection of the ragas and the BGM , all these details were exhaustively researched and explained very clearly! Waiting for the next episode..thank you
Brilliant analysis. Thank you so much. Loved the layered violin piece by Sayee Rakshith. I was so hoping to see your analysis of another brilliant song in the movie in kanakaangi which is “thom thom tha” song. Hope to hear it in future episodes. Thanks again for educating us.
Enjoying every bit of the songs and the very good explanations which are new. Not just the songs alone, I felt I must see the movie again to feel the Various rasas inbuilt in the bgm.

I want tamil carnatic movie song sharing experience with sikkal gurucharan sir i am waiting for that wonderful video in your youtube channel side always .
Superb analysis. Thank you. With bated breath, I was waiting for your exposition on KanakAngi (?)….let me share my thoughts which I had shared it with some of my friends few years back. There is a song situation in the movie *Sindhu Bhairavi*. The protagonist is torn between lust and his music career and he struggles to get out of the mire. He decides to shrug his thought by indulging in music. In Carnatic music, Ragam Tanam Pallavi is a popular presentation where the artiste picks up a raga, improvises it with aalap, then sings a short Pallavi based on that raga which is usually based on a particular deity after singing taanam. Taanam is an interesting portion of the RTP and is the rhythmic version of the raga aalap. In Kerala there is a practice of percussionists accompanying the taanam portion too. It sets the phase for the Pallavi presentation. For this situation Raaja composes a tune in a “taanam” style. And the raga he chose is KanakAngi, a road less travelled even in Carnatic music. Why he chose kanakAngi? Perhaps this is the first melakartha raga and the protagonist wanted to delve deep in to all melakarthas starting from KanakAngi to get rid of the bad thoughts that come in his way. But he fails in his attempt, his toxic thoughts prevail and his Tanpura string gets cut before he could finish KanakAngi. Raaja used similar idea of choosing a melakartha to convey the emotions in a particular scene and how it culminates to a climax. In movie Naan Kadavul he chose raga Rasikapriya for the melting song “kannil paarvai pona podhum”. Probably he chose Rasikapriya because it is the 72nd melakartha, the last one, alluding that this is the last hope of the poor blind lady who struggled right through her life.

An amazing analysis of the Carnatic nuances that Raja sir & KB Sir had placed subtly in this movie. After watching this video, our perspective towards watching a movie has changed. We would love to revisit KB Sir's carnatic trilogy. Way to go Anna... As you said, there are people who could do a better analysis of Carnatic music in movies but we would love to listen to it and enjoy it through your eloquent, inquisitive & impeccable narration. The "Sahana" series on Jaya TV is a news to me. Eagerly waiting for your upcoming episodes in "Jannal Oram" :) :)

You are right! The same notes Dha and Ni would be used in a thodi-esque fashion.
God bless !
😀
You have remembered again sindhu bharavi movie carnatic song and sindhu bharavi acted all character thanks for that gurucharan sir .Sindhu bharavi was my favorite movie in carnatic side for me.
Take care of your beautiful voice and health and wealth and prosperity and happiness always sikkal gurucharan sir.

You have truly taken us through a magical journey to SindhuBhairavi ...absolutely brilliant !! Sooo beautiful !!
Thanks a ton
I treat gurucharan sir as a part of my family members always .
Thanks a ton Sikkil Guru charan fir the wonderful treatise of treat called Raja sirs music
Thanks a ton

Thank you so much!!!
Thank you. Emotion needs no technique. It is all heart :)

Excellent analysis of an iconic thematic music score. The second interlude in Naan oru Sindhu sounds like Sitar preceded by classical guitar
Legends are legends, but seriously movies like these are the last of their sort? Would anybody dare to do such creations in future? Like you rightly said, the respect for art will make these masterpieces live forever.. eventually your Jannal Oram as well...🙌
Waiting for the other two movies as well 😀
Thank you. Rajiv Menon is one such director with an eye for classical music in his movies. Others should hopefully take the cue
Wonderful yeah, how could one forget sarvam thala mayam.. 🙏
Oh!
Thank you so much. Detailed analysis of that fisherman scene. Wonderful.
That's when we approach "whole is not equal to merely the sum of it's parts"
Good work. Keep up. Please do concentrate on other related departments also while highlighting "music" & saying this with all love & devotion to Music
Thank you Guru Charan for showing so much of inputs from Sindhu bhairavi.by your singing
Poomalai Vangi Vandhal..My favourite song tuned in the raga Dharbari Kanada..❤❤

Pranams Sikkil Sir. My sangu maalai would be Sashtanga Namaskaram to you Sir.
Genius touch - Kalaivaniye explained in a Carnatic way with sarali varisai. This further emphasizes your efforts to provide something new which others have not given
Humble suggestion - thom thom thom tha nantha thom, moham ennum theeyil en manam was touched in your prior thanam episode, could have been detailed in this episode adding Kanakangi vivadhi ragam details
We sincerely hope this continues amidst your busy Carnatic singing schedule into a full fledged worldwide concert. And hopefully Ilaiyaraja Sir comes with a statement of praise for you Sir as he did for Ranjani Gayathri in that concert.
Thank you. Will re upload that bit on Kanakangi alone as a short!

Super Sikkil. Very much enjoyed it. Please do these kind of episodes often when ever time permits
Will try!
Very good interpretation. Great Sir... Wishes From Andhra.
Thank you. There is more for us to take away from such classic movies!

Completely awestruck by your research on the music by Raja sir in the film Sindhubhairavi.
Amazing insight. Thank you. I have mentioned that song in another episode on Thanam on Jannal Oram. Will upload it again as a short

VERY USEFUL KNOWLEDGE OF CARNATIC MUSIC RAGAS ĢOOD PROGRAM I LIKE 👌🏾👌🏾
An amazing analysis of the Carnatic nuances that Raja sir & KB Sir had placed subtly in this movie.
