There is another story for the ragaa acquiring this name. When Ravanaa got under Mt Kailash (out of ego)and could not get out even after singing profusely. Then he sang this raga. Lord Shiva was pleased and released him. Since Lord Shiva is an ardent devotee of Lord Rama (அரன் மனத்திடை சதா ஜபித்துடும் நாமமோ - பாபநாசம் சிவன் கீர்த்தனை" என்ன சொல்லி அழைத்தால் நீ வருவாயோ" கனடா ராகம்) Lord Shiva was pleased and let him.go. since Ravana sang the raga which pleased Siva it was named as Karahara Priya - favourite of Rama. I.e Siva pleased to hear the raga which was favourite to Rama.
Saint Tyagaraja has showered his Blessings on Gurucharan; he has done exceresearch & presented a wonderful exposure to us of the whole Karaharapriya Raga Family!!! Thanks.

It is said Atma is not the experiencer or the experienced , nevertheless we attribute our experiences with your music , Gurucharan, and educative Jannal Oram episodes to get to that Sarvatmabhavam.
as you have mentioned in janya ragas some ragas are popularly reached public. Kanada , Abhogi , sri ranjani , durbar . because of popular krithis are there in those ragas. even lay man knows the Raga name . hope. I have told correct .
Excellent overview... One very minor thing I wanted to point out - in the pallavi of "OrajUpu" the word is raghUttama, not raghOttama... Raghothama this is my father's name, (and hence my official 'last name' ), and I have since found that it is mispronounced/misspelt from a samskrutam point of view.
