You should always apply the emergency parking brake when parking, even in the driveway... will protect the transmission from that roll that happens after you release your foot off the brake
Low key one of the greatest features I remember about my 96 ES is the doors not having a frame for the windows. Always made me feel like I was driving a convertible during the summers with no a/c lol
you don't have to say low key at the beginning, it adds nothing to the sentence. And old farts will think you are dumb when you say it, best not to let slang get in your vocab too much because then its hard to turn off.
That’s the beauty of 90s cars. Most mods are maintenance items and minor upgrades which make for great content! To see an older car slowly transform and restore is such a rewarding process as well. Can’t wait to see more daily content 👍🏽
I inherited my dad's '98 ES when he passed away, I ended up trading it in for a new '10 TSX V6. I drove the car for a few years, it was such a smooth driving car. My dad never really took care of the car though, he wasn't a car guy, so the car was kind of falling apart when I got a hold of it. Interestingly, my ES also lost a lug nut along the way. Good luck with the car, it's a sweet ride. I love to see older Lexus cars on the road.
@@AlephTroll the only major issue I had was the AC busting on me. Again, that too was most likely due to my dad not using the car's automatic climate control correctly. A few other things were replaced under an extended warranty I bought for the car, but I honestly doubt those things actually needed to be replaced. It was all suspension stuff. The car drove fine, but since the shop was able to get the warranty to cover it, I allowed them to do the work. It was a terrific car. I believe the car had about 150K miles on it when I traded it in, which is nothing for an ES. I wouldn't be surprised if it's still on the road today.
I love the dash cluster and frame less door. I used to have the same model sold at 240 k miles with 0 issues. Now I have lexus es350 got for my son who is an engineering student. Very reliable daily drive car
When it comes to your tweeter warning on Crutchfield it basically means you'll need a specific adapter bracket for your car so the tweeter slides into the plate and then the plate screws into the car and fits like OEM. If you have trouble finding a tweeter bracket for your model, 3D printing would be the way to go. COOL DAILY!
Worked for Toyota many years, see if you see a label when the last timing belt was replaced. That’s the last thing you need snapping, and while there in there changing the belt, have them change oil pump gasket , water pump gasket and crank o ring. You want that car to last take care of those things. Love the Vids, and stay real.
Love this car! Quick tip: you can push down the wiper arms until they "click" into the lower position - it'll be out of your driving view (the up position is the service mode/winter mode)
Yep! I do this with mine too. It's scary the first time because you think you're going to break them when pushing down, but they're designed to move in 2 positions.
Hello. Liking the content. If you are hearing noises when you turn right, then it's your left wheel bearing. Thats usually how suspension works. Also, for your speakers/music, the number 1 thing to change is your amplifier. It will make the most difference.
Is there a giveaway to easily tell if the timing belt is worn? Not as familiar with timing belts. my other cars have had chains. Looking at a 94’ with 90k miles
Great condition ES! I have had my 98 since Jan, 2018 and it has been fantastic. Mine is in much worse shape appearance wise, but mechanically these are incredible cars. Check to make sure the timing belt and water pump have been done. Mine was 70k miles past due when I bought it.
Makes me miss my 2001 es300 one of the best cars I ever owned. Wound up getting a 2007 es350 because it has more power. But it was a great car for the 3yrs I had it.
Hey I noticed that the radiator on your car is turning brown. Its a very common thing for older toyotas to have that and It means that the plastic on the radiator is brittle and it could burst unexpectedly. Ive owned a bunch of 20+ year old lexus and toyota vehicles and its just something I always replace preventatively. Anyways good video 👍
I bought a 2001 ES300 and the radiator had a brown top. I replaced it. I used to have a 1993 Camry and the radiator top burst and shot hot fluid onto the engine which turned into steam instantly. It looked like my engine was on fire with all the steam billowing out from under the hood. 😅
I got a 97 es300 for 3500 2 years ago from one owner with 48k miles. Only weakness is alternator. Get it rebuilt from finish line from 130 amp on v6 highlander. They beefed up my alternator with double wind diodes and better rectifier making it 130 to 180 amp for my subwoofer. Been a great car
You can look up the video how to replace install rear brake pads. I had to change out the driver front hud wheel bearing. You have to press it out and in do not attempt to try, unless you have a press, u could take it then you do the rest of the install process, lower control arm ,
PF Changs is so good! I have the same problem with o2 sensor so I just leave the warning light alone. For the stickers blow dry and spray with WD40. Put newspapers to catch the drips
That was great value purchase. If I owned that car from new, it would have over 600,000 miles on it. The issue you are going to run into is that all the little everyday use stuff has "600,000" miles on it. Probably started and stopped just as many times as I would have. Probably has seen just as much UV too. Doesn't mean its bad, just will have some issues.
Dude the seatbelts you just have to give it a good wash, like soak it in water in a bucket of soap after pulling it out all the way. Have it held with something if needed and then dry it off.
We had a 1999, but none of those issues oddly. Not even the slow gas gauge - I wonder if the float is sticky or something - maybe from infrequent driving before. Our 1999 had 225k miles on it in 2018. The power steering hose leaks often that goes behind the engine where it's crimped, but they may have fixed that in the past.
I've got a 98 ES300. Here's what I've done so far for mods. Radio, coilovers, primax 776 rims in black chrome, seat covers, steering wheel cover with wood trim, spark plugs, replaced both axles, and replaced the heater core. That's over the span of the last five years

Regarding the seat belt, it might just be dirty. I had a 2001 corolla with a similar issue. I fixed it by cleaning the belt and components is goes through. Of course, let it dry out before retracting.
