For all you Suzuki violinists out there, I wanted to produce professional level recordings that you could listen to and watch on TH-cam. Listening is how your ear develops a sense of quality tone so it's critical to choose your recordings carefully. I often recommend to my students and parents that they put it on repeat and fall asleep to the recording. The brain processes and learns even while sleeping. Happy listening!

How come you don’t use a shoulder rest?
That’s a big enough question to require a video honestly. The very short answer is that I feel that it forces me into a more fluid, relaxed technique. If you opt to use a shoulder rest, it’s critical to not lift the left shoulder so you’re not constantly in a state of tension. I found that with a shoulder rest, I always managed to squeeze up with my shoulder rather than simply using head weight. Playing without a shoulder rest comes with its own set of challenges though and it took a lot of getting used to. Most of the weight of the violin is supported by the collar bone but the left hand shares some responsibility. This poses some difficulties when it comes to shifting and vibrato. As with most violinists, I’ve done a lot of experimenting with my setup and I’ve never been happier with mine than I am now. Be on the lookout for a more in depth video about it in the future. 👍
I am expecting to hear your experience more about playing violin without shoulder rest. I am a physical therapist , learning violin for 2 years to understand violinist who suffering from playing related pain. Your u tube is very helpful. Thanks.
I prefer suzuki book to barbara barber 😊
Agreed. Not that there isn’t great rep in the Barbara Barber books but the technique progression in the Suzuki books is so logical. 👍
You should be in a shampoo commercial
Haha thanks! It’s all in the lighting. 👍 Although you may change your opinion after seeing a few more of my vids.
