Did you get them as adults? Did they live 4-5 years with you or that's how old they were when they passed? 7-8 years is considered old age for guinea pigs. Maybe they were inbred. That's also what I'm wondering about with the herd in the video...

When we got the two there was a mother and a baby I would assume to be a few months old. The child guinea pig became really obese though because it would hog all of the food and ended up having health issues. It only lasted about 3 and a half years total. So the mother died first, then the baby after a short life, and then Luna. Luna was around probably a little over five years but she also had some illness at one point. I know how you feel same situation happened to me last year. Seeing these videos give's me a sense of hope for all animals that they can live their best lives.
So cute seeing them go around like little walking eggplants. Also, those who are concerned for their well-being because of the chickens, the chickens consider them friends VERY LIKELY. Chickens are incredibly socially intelligent animals and they are empathetic, they care about their friends, coop buddies and family. Since these piggos live with the chickens, they're very likely extremely close and the chickens consider them coop mates. A chicken will eat a mouse, a lizard, a snake, a frog, etc but that happens with individuals they don't know. Those who have familial relations to their friends and mates, they will not eat. I am curious about how many, if any, of these piggos are neutered. It would be sensible to neuter at least some of them to prevent overpopulation, but they all still look so healthy and happy! Is the area protected from predators? They can't go outside of the property, right? You have such amazing little lawnmowers.
chickens are social, yes, but theyre not like humans-anthropomorphizing them is misleading. chickens will not hesitate to tear apart things that appear weak or things they view as food, and I could see a genuine concern if u had more aggressive chickens. fortunately these seem fine
I would imagine some of them are eaten by predators while out grazing. You can't really protect a cute little piggo from hawks, cats, or foxes all day. Nor should they, IMO. Predators deserve to survive as well, and the occasional predation is probably good to keep the population controlled. Sad to think about, but thinking about an owl dropping dead from starvation is sad too 🤷🏾
I visited a nursing/rehabilitation home and they had an Aviary outside with birds and a guinea pig in residence. Their was a parrolet (bird)that rode around on the guinea pigs back and stayed near it. If it entered it's small box, the bird went in too. They all seemed to get along. The folks there enjoyed them.
This is heaven to me. I love guinea pigs! Going on 41 years of owning them myself. It’s amazing they know to all go back at the end of the day. Mine were never that smart lol. I’d be afraid of cats, hawks or other wild animals eating them though. Love your videos!❤❤❤
Oh, I guess plenty of them get eaten by hawks and cats... but who'd notice with that big a heard. They are breeding like the proverbial rabbits. And it's easy to train them to come back to the barn... just have the right food ready. They'll also appreciate the shelter. At some time it's just habbit.

I envisioned them living in a dark cave-like place at night. What a lovely surprise to see then in the guinea pig/chicken coop where all the animals are busy socializing. A herd of guinea pigs is just TOO cute!
What I love about this is they're just your little buddies. No ulterior motives. just a bunch of great little pals. I sure wish there were more folks like you. I have actually softened a few hearts and changed some minds by just being in the yard and talking to people while I'm looking after the pigeons. People see how clean and friendly they can be with some water and good food, plus a little attention. Most of mine are as clean as Mike Tyson's birds, though nowhere near as expensive. I have great conversations nearly every day and I think it's helpful to expose people to an alternative to what they've been told all their lives. There are also sparrows, mourning doves, mockingbirds and big black Grackles and this time of year, the European starlings migrate to Nevada. All of these are basically outcast birds that are not very popular with normal people, but I'm not a normal people, and so we're just one big happy family of misfits and outcasts.

You should do more on how you raise your guinea pigs. I never owned one. I'd find it interesting to hear why you raise so many, how you get them to come back at the end of the day, the value of owning them, how you keep them from being attacked by predictors while they're grazing.
@@ll5974 males are easily neutered, well easier than females anyway. As for the predators knowing my local crow and magpie population I'd be worried too!
I can probably answer your question about getting them back in! They're really really good about forming habits and routines. My pigs know dinner is at 6:00pm and from about 5:45 they will begin wheeking to let me know its supper time. They also know which sounds mean food, rustling plastic, fridge opening, etc. In this case it sounds like they're banging on a bucket to let the pigs know its supper time and the pigs know they get fed in the barn so will all rush back in
Truly adorable. Absolutely loved seeing them run back into their tunnel. They seem so healthy & happy. Such a heartwarming video. Thanks for the post 👌
We had three free-ranging guinea pigs, and they were such menaces when we had to bring them in for the night once they realised they could go into the hedge haha. One of them, a little feral beast of a thing (we loved him all the same), stayed in there for three nights, and was living his best life. We ended up calling the hedge the Dreadfort, because the pig was named Ramsay Bolton 🏰

Just curious, is your property fenced so they don’t wander too far? Also, how do you know when they’ve all come in for the night- do you count them all? 😅 And do you ever have a problem with predators getting them?
Of course they don’t count them and of course there are natural predators taking advantage of this farm, otherwise the lil guinea pigs would be extremely overpopulated, why do you think some of the smarter ones look around before leaving the tube? Because they are obviously familiar with predators, why are you so concerned with their fencing and property practices? Probably because you sit on the internet 12 hours a day and call everything “cute” go into the real world and you will start to understand because videos on youtube only show what they want you to see and everything else is edited out.....
If guinea pigs are anything like chickens, they all know that they need to go back to the safety of their coop once it starts getting dark. They know that they are scrumptious little morsels for predators and they like to stay in groups together, so they don't usually wander too far from each other or their safe place :)
They would have been born in this barn, and the humans provide food and warmth and safety,so why wouldn't they come back it's their home, they do exactly what for example our cats do when we let them out, they are mammals after all.
This is such a beautiful video!!!! What a great life with so much freedom and space to explore these animals have. I wish all animals lived like these! Thank you for caring for them and giving them such a wonderful life.

Ah this healed me today..I had a rough day today..the kitten I took care of died despite our best effort to save her. I work at a pet store and it's refreshing to see these gp having a good life roaming around in a wide garden.
Sad to think about, but thinking about an owl dropping dead from starvation is sad too 🤷🏾
@@asmodeus304 Yeah, I disagree with OP. Chicken will even attack their own species often for no reason.
Chickens are fucking savages toward each other tf you mean? They’re basically miniature velociraptors

They give them a great life up until they slaughter them. Restaurants will pay a pretty penny for organic grass fed Guinea Ham, Guinea Bacon. The factory farmed Guinea Pork doesn't taste nearly as good as the guinea pigs in the video will taste.
@@kevindawsonmusicvariety7613 I couldn't give chickens away if I cared for them. I'd eat the fresh eggs, but not my own chickens. "Overall, it's best not bathe your guinea pig more than once a month, and most short-haired breeds only require it once or twice a year. Like cats, guinea pigs are excellent self-cleaners and it's rare for them to need bathing." - Katie's Kitty (May 8th, 2020)
"They groom themselves by licking their fur, usually starting out by standing on their hind legs so as to better reach their front and back sides. Your guinea pig will keep themselves clean, so you likely won't need to bathe them (unless they get mites or get themselves into a messy situation)." - BeChewy (March 4th, 2015)
"Can guinea pigs take baths? More importantly, should you be bathing your piggies? This is a question that many guinea pig owners will ask at some point. If you have never had one before, it can be confusing to know whether or not it's safe to bathe your beloved piggy. When you're stroking that soft fur, you may start to think that a bath will make their coat even softer. The general rule of thumb when grooming these adorable creatures is that you should not bathe them unless a bath is needed for a specific reason. Much like cats, they groom themselves often and prefer to do their own grooming." - Small Pet Select (July 1st, 2020)

Sounds like a lovely family to me!!!
@@LynneC44 I can say with absolute certainty that they have been indispensable in helping me to maintain my sanity for the past two and a half years. I would have gone over the cliff without them.

I'd crumple from anxiety and depression if videos like this didn't exist.
You should do more on how you raise your guinea pigs. I never owned one. I'd find it interesting to hear why you raise so many, how you get them to come back at the end of the day, the value of owning them, how you keep them from being attacked by predictors while they're grazing.
And what about population control!
I wondered that too?
One thing I know is that you should never have just one, because they’ll be depressed. Two is the minimum so they can be together!

We had three free-ranging guinea pigs, and they were such menaces when we had to bring them in for the night once they realised they could go into the hedge haha. Господи, какая прелесть! Это просто какой-то свинячий рай. А наша Шуша умерла 8 марта. До сих пор вспоминаю её со слезами.
All these questions. We're in town and have hawks, stray cats... Out in a more rural area you'd have even more predators...
If guinea pigs are anything like chickens, they all know that they need to go back to the safety of their coop once it starts getting dark. They know that they are scrumptious little morsels for predators and they like to stay in groups together, so they don't usually wander too far from each other or their safe place :)
I was wondering the same thing. Even if they are fenced in, wouldn’t they still be targeted by hawks?
