Great for the aquifer! Great for the mountains. Great for the lakes and rivers. Great for the reservoirs. Great for next summer's crops. Great for swimming pools. What's not to love!

I don't miss walking my daughter to school in this...not all roads were plowed.......Shoveled all 6 years we lived there.... Is was like being back home in NY! :) The best thing is that it is always beautiful to see and AZ desperately needs the water!

It used to snow big-time in Flagstaff and Prescott both. It was reality.

I moved to Az a couple of years ago to be near my daughter & I'm very happy to have moved back to Wa before this winter hit. Pretty cool though. They can use the water.

I remember wading through at least 3 feet of snow on the outskirts of Flagstaff during a storm in 1969. I just thought it was normal for Flagstaff; all the old-timers said it was. Of course, maybe it just seemed worse because that was way back when Route 66 was still a two-lane highway instead of I-40 and Flagstaff was just a wide spot in the road.

Flagstaff had a pretty big winter 2 years ago, and Phoenix had a wet one 2 years ago. Arizona is a desert, what counts as a drought?

    • @cacatr4495
      @cacatr4495 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vinrusso821
The word Desert is not synonymous with the word Drought. First, Flagstaff is not in the desert at all. Second, one characteristic of a Desert is that it is arid, meaning low humidity in the air, not that it doesn't get its historical pattern of cycled rainfall. Arizona always had very healthy cycles of rainfall, predictable times of yearly rainfall, and snow in the high country. These were healthy, historical weather patterns. Arizona was not in drought. Keep in mind that talk of drought can be political in nature, and less the reality. We received a very great amount of rain and snow this past Winter and Spring, yet they're still talking about drought. Southern Arizona has gotten abundant rainfall Winter, Spring and Summer for recent years, and still they speak of drought.

This storm was lame here in Sierra Vista. All the schools in Cochise County closed; co workers departed work early weather forecast not accurate; but I know better safe then sorry. Still the forecast caused more panic here then truly helped. Even the forecasted hard freeze is inaccurate, for Sierra Vista. Lame

So according to the chick who isn't even thirty, it's totally normal and happened all the time when she was little and kept track of the weather. I'm from Duluth Minnesota and when I was little the snow was like ten feet deep, unless I was just smaller or something

Let's see if Flagstaff can beat its record season snowfall, of about 230" of snowfall. I lived there in the 1970's when snowstorms there were a bit more common than they have been in the last 20 years. I now live in a location where just 10" of snow less is the annual AVERAGE. Flagstaff proved to be a good transition from my coastal upbringing and where I live now.
Calling the snow in Flagstaff "relentless" is quite an embellishment. It snowed for what, 3 or 4 days in a row? I call that a decent snowstorm and no more.

They had snow as low as Scottsdale . I heard unofficially 8” in some areas .
I’ve never seen as much snow on the mountains around Phoenix and I’ve been here 11 years..
It was very pretty but most of the Phoenix area got about 2” of rain and highs in the 40’s . Also a terrific hailstorm in Queen Creek.
Overnight lows have been below freezing. Temps have been 20’ below normal..
The Jet Stream has been erratic as heck .
Your temps have been dictated by the direction of the jet stream .
Combine with the moisture of a an El Niño.

My Grandpa told me stories when he worked for the Flagstaff water department in the 60's 70's and 80's about the snow being as deep as the roof lines in sum years. I grew up in Payson during the 80's lots of snow during those times we didn't have big forest fires then eather. I think we are going back to that cycle now maybe even worse with the GSM.

Flagstaff isn't desert, it's forested Ponderosa Pine country at 7000 feet in elevation. Historically, it always got big-time snow every Winter. It's only been in recent years that that weather pattern has been messed up.
