That strategy didn't work though, Kipyegon stayed with her all through, and struck when Dibaba was all but done...Kipyegon did us proud...up Kenya!

      My, my! That is so wrong-sided! It is because she is of a special class that she could have competed the way she did, even though she had the hindrance of an injury. How quick we are to discard true champions and class the minute they fail. But the future will tell. Again, congrats to the Kenyan but lets not discredit a phenomenal talent on a bad day.

    The race couldn't have set up better for Kipyegon,........and she knew what to do with the opportunity. She was never in trouble nor impeded.........When Dibaba finally broke for the lead, Laura Muir went right with her while Faith pulled up into 3rd position with a smooth stride. Laura Muir made sure that Faith won this race;....... not intentionally mind you, but the race Laura ran set the table for Faith like she dreamed it could happen. Coming off the last turn on the 3rd lap, Kipyegon went wide to challenge Laura and Genzebe,.......... even though she didn't have to at that point. A wide turn loses ground for the runner, so when Faith did that willingly,........... it could only mean that she had plenty left. Laura Muir pushed Genzebe when she bolted to the lead about mid race. Laura ran very hard and stayed on Genzebe's shoulder so that Dibaba could feel her right there. Dibaba couldn't let her take the lead,. not in the Olympic gold medal race, so she had no choice but to use extra energy to keep the lead. Laura ran on her hip for a lap and a half, essentially wearing Dibaba down enough for Faith to do her thing. While the two leaders battled and pressured each other, Faith slid into 3rd position, watching and waiting to pounce. She was calm and relaxed,............. drafting behind those two while they fought the breeze. Faith not only won but she won big at the best possible time. The joy she expressed was as real and genuine as can be. When an athlete works so hard for so long, and finally the dream comes, the look on their face is as enjoyable to see as the race itself. This young lady,......Faith Kipyegon, was beaming with glee,..........tears flowing like a fountain,.......... and I loved to see it. Faith Kipyegon,...if you read this message,............you did a fantastic job and I'm your new best fan. God Bless you honey,....Mark

      why this novel?....one on one with dibaba, faith still would have taken it...look at her strenght to the wire.

    • @S0ulinth3machin3
      @S0ulinth3machin3 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@mwatu_wa_ngoma when they're running that fast there's a small drafting effect. Muir's pushing of Dibaba allowed Kipyegon to draft without expending energy. Muir's pushing of Dibaba also kept the pace high, discouraging other runners from coming up onto the shoulder of Kipyegon. Tactics are part of it, not saying that Kipeygon didn't deserve it, but the race broke perfectly for her. There is such a thing as luck in sports when the athlete's abilities are within 1% of each other. Still can't take it away from Kipeygon because Dibaba could have chosen different tactics.

    • @markhiggins8315
      @markhiggins8315 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@S0ulinth3machin3 However thus race was run Kipyagon would have won. If the "drafting effect" was what made the difference Dibaba would have finished much, much closer to Kipyagon.
      Faith Kipyagon aside from a period recovering her fitness and form after having a baby which included the time in which the 2019 world championship was run has been without any doubt the best 1500m athelete in the world since 2016.

    • @S0ulinth3machin3

      @@markhiggins8315 the drafting effect is real. That's why they have pacesetters on world record attempts

    • @markhiggins8315
      @markhiggins8315 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@S0ulinth3machin3 I wasn't disputing that there is such a phenomenon, my point was that any advantage Faith gained was not the difference between winning and loosing. Even without that advantage( drafting is of real significance when an athelete can take advantage of it over much longer distances as although it is a real thing when it's for such a relatively short time the advantage only amounts to a difference if measured in distance way less than the winning margin) Faith would have still won comfortably.
      The reality is that since Faith Kipyagon fully matured as a 1500m athelete( from around 2016 to present, excluding a period after childbirth through 2019 when she had to recover her fitness and form) no other runner has been able to live with her finishing speed and strength.

    This here is why mid/distance events are so much more exciting to watch than sprints where you blink and you've missed out. Athletes can change things up and react to different strategies and whatever the competition throws at them. Tactically the most exciting races for me at the Olympics were 1500m, 5000m, and 10,000m for the women and 800m, 10,000m, the steeple and the marathon for men. But sometimes, overthinking strategies might turn into a disaster for favourites and make for a complete snooze fest that the men's 1500m was. Spectators didn't get their money's worth for that one.

      the thing about running is that the Africans have very high advantages because Africa has mostly high elevation, so when they train there they train their hearts to produce more blood cells to compensate for the less oxygen. But when they compete at a lower elevation they have an advantage over the other runners because they have more blood cells being pumped from the heart.
