  • My first 10 days Journey to Vitrectomy Surgery Recovery
Feb 25 \ 26: I felt very faint blue shadow on left eye far left bottom. Not visible. Not sure if there is even something. Called my Optometrist to see him. Vision is clear.
Feb 27: I came to Sunnybrook Hospital emergency. Complained both eye balls are hurting me, like eye fatigue, dryness, just not right. Is it my sinus pressure? At Emerg asked if there is any underlying reasons why this is happening. Vision is clear. Emerg focused on my eyes and Retina and sent me to ophthalmology Department and I Saw Dr. Imani. She confirmed No retina detachment was discovered and I was sent home.
Feb 28: I keep feeling there is something not right about my LEFT eye. My eyes are dry, still hurting. Like my cataract lens is not sitting properly. And shadow is more dominant.
Feb 29: On Saturday I saw my optometrist and he asked I go to Sunnybrook Emerg again. Dr. Michael N saw me that night and confirmed detachment but said he could not locate the leak. You were on call that day but I never saw you. He spoke with Dr. Lee and I was sent home with instructions to come back at 8 am.
March 1: Dr. Lee performed gas bubble procedure. My grey shadow is still at far left at bottom and very faint. Vision is not bothered.
March 2: Dr. Lee performed lasers. My grey spot on left eye is still very faint. But it is moving from far left towards upper midway central. Still Vision is not bothered.
March 4: Dr. Lee saw me for follow up. She said recovery is not progressing. She consulted with you and and you asked to give more healing time and change the position to help bubble. You did not examine me. Now the grey is little more dominant and it is in the central upper part above the eye ball. Vision still not obstructed.
March 6: saw Dr. Lee and Dr. Kertes at Kensington Eye Institute. My grey shadow is visibly there now and at the central but still not obstructing the vision. Both docs examined my eyes and felt it is moving in the right direction (healing).
March 7: I am seeing this dark shadow. I am confused. The prior day examination said it was healing. It is still not obstructing the vision yet.
March 8: I woke up and the dark shadow is coming down like a curtain. I rushed to Sunnybrook and saw resident on call Ophthalmologist and Dr. Rosenberg. He confirmed it is central retina detachment. And at this point half of the upper vision on left eye is gone.
On March 9: I had the Surgery and my first 10 days are documented here.
