I built ONE of these, gorgeous... LOVED it so much I built a second... Gave the first one away as a gift and INSTANTLY got commissioned to build 2 more, twice the size, same concept. MUCH APPRECIATED for the video man!!!!!!!!!!!! You just made me a few hundred bucks!!!!!!!! I LOVE THESE!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for allowing us to see how to make such a nice planter box. I just finished making a 2 feet square planter for my chayote plant. I have to say it was very easy to make with your instructions. I have to admit it came out pretty good. I'm getting ready to make one like yours. I'm an old lady and even I could do it. Thanks a million. Saved me tons of money by doing it myself.
This is the best by far the easiest to build with the least expensive and great materials, and best of all raised from the ground which is what I need. I will use your method to also build longer ones and the one you have showcased for my porch, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Hi to your very lucky wife😁🤟 Stay safe and healthy. God Bless.
I'm glad I found you channel. I am new to wood working. I'm building a nice wood working power tool collection. So far, I've build a flat bottom boat, saw horses, mallets. The planter box, rustic cooler, and a nice living room adjustable book shelf coming soon, with yous guys help. Thanks
Saw it at work last night loved it. Went home and made it today with my son. Nice job keep it up, I'm handy but not great at making up stuff to build lol.
All good! I see you have a healthy respect for that table saw. All you need to be more comfortable and safe is an out feed table extension. Amazon has them. I got one for myself , and it’s so nice not to have to reach around the backside to catch my cuts. Keep up the great work. I like how you narrate the video. Very pretty box too!
This is a pretty cool project....especially for a beginner. Had some trouble with the angles of the legs...seeing I couldn't find any cedar pickets....just pine....but it came out great for a first attempt and the wife is happy!
Nice and i am glad you did it with a cheap saw... I am more confident in the saw i have which is the same one.. I guess its less about the tool and more about the man behind it.. Nice Table
Your video production quality as well as your work methods are so competent that it reminds me of what America has lost. People who can actually teach you something. This was nothing but enjoyable. I love the way you kept it going quickly eliminating the dead time when you had to grab something.or wait for something to dry. This is very helpful. It's great to observe skill in action. Thanks
Very nice work and easy, I made a few of these but instead of coating the inside with polyurethane I used rolled plastic and stapled to the inside. You can find it at Lowe’s in the paint department.
Excellent job and great video with easy instructions. The boss wants these for a raised garden to help keep the dog from digging in her tomatoes. This is exactly what I was looking for. Keep up the good work. You got a new subscriber.
It is a Husky compressor. 5HP - 22 gallons - 6.5 SCFM@40PSI - 5.1 SCFM@90PSI - 125 MAX PSI I actually don't know too much about compressors. I won this one in a raffle at a car show about 10 years ago. It sat in the box for 5 years until I bought my house and was able to start using it. It has been reliable so far.
Just a suggestion. Not sure if it would help later on in life but laying cheese cloth on the bottom inside will prevent any soil from seeping out in time, we do it with our potted plants and coffee filters. Works great with them, figured cheese clothe on a bigger scale
Nice video i hope to build one of these for our home soon . Thank you for posting this i enjoyed every second of this video . excellent video and project !
Great job mate. I really like the simplicity of this planter and the colours were a nice choice. I may modify the design just slightly by placing a block inside each corner to tie the side together as I’m not sure just gluing the corners will last. Anyway, again, really nice planter and I think I’ll make a few of them for my backyard this weekend! I just subscribed!
That sounds like a good plan. Just as an FYI, the planter is still sitting on my front porch 10 years later exactly as I built it with no issues. You can read an update about it on my site here: funwithwoodworking.com/shop-update-271-1-11-23/
Luis Guevara Thank you, but most of my tools are low end and not too expensive and not 100% necessary. You could make this planter with a hand saw and a hammer if you had to. It's just easier with the power tools.
Good design ,proportions are good. Made 2 at the weekend slightly wider from treated sawn timber so should last a few years . They are going to be exposed to the weather in the uk so need to be rot proof .
I made several in different sizes and shapes, great idea to use fence boards. The only thing I did differently was run a cleat around the interior for the bottom boards to rest on; I thought it would be better if the weight of the dirt was holding them down instead of screws holding it up. Thanks for the vid.
Nice job. I have go make sure my wife would not watch it... No seriously, I'm going to build one or two boxes (perhaps half long) by myself. You gave me great inspiration. Thanks.
Thanks for a great video! I had to make 3 and each one was quite a bit longer than yours, so I added some internal strengthening strips on the inside between the 3 legs. The pickets that I got were quite rough, and needed quite a bit of sanding. I would suggest using a planer to smooth all sides and surfaces. I also found that I needed to use my clamps to squeeze the side strips together when I was assembling the boxes - once they were cut from the pickets they warped a bit. Overall a great project, but allow plenty of time because glue/stain/varnish has to dry!
I'm going to give your design a try, but with a couple of modifications. I don't think I'll attach the bottom. Instead, I'll put 1x2s on the inside to make a ledge, making the bottom panels removable. I may even put a 2nd ledge halfway, leaving the option for a planting that doesn't call for so much soil. At least that's the plan. Thanks for the SketchUp file, too.
Man, this is really really nice! I don't have equipment like you but i have been thinking of buying accent table for my living room but couldn't find the right color or type, i got an idea from you for it. Thanks for the detailed video. :)
I think this looks great I have been asked to make 3 bug planters like this and wanted some Ideas and I think I will use this as my main inspiration so Thankyou for that I think the only thing I would do is to put cleats on the inside to rest the bottom slats on so you don't see the end grain.
Prevent warping cuts by having a guide clamped on the outside portion at the end of the fence to the width of the board and have a spacer rise up between the cut boards like a thick nail on the board you use under the table to clamp to that way the guide up made will not cause any wobbling of the boards as you slide it through the saw blade. A large nail is of aluminum type which is originally made for gutter placement on eaves, if you do not have one then use a bolt which you can attach with two nuts above and below the board under the table. You might have also considered using some wood preservative before assembly and staining atop it before you assemble after the first coat of preservative dries. I also would have considered waterproofing before assembly.
This is man shit right here. I don't know what it is but building shit excites the hell out of me. So much respect for folks who build beauty out of wood (not talking about baby making). LOL
It looks awesome. The only question/concern I have is wouldn't treating the wood tamper with the soil and the growth of the plants you're putting into it?
My estimate on actual material cost is about $20 but I had a lot of stuff on hand already. I used 6 fence pickets at $2.05 each. I used a small container of stain that I bought on closeout for a couple of dollars. I had to buy a quart of spar urethane at about $20 but only used a quarter of it. I already had a 1 lb box of 1" screws but I think it was like $7. I also used 1 1/2" deck screws on the bottom but I also already had a 1 lb box at about $10.
That is awesome!

Thank you. I hope that they turn out well.
Wow! Safety first in everything! And the enormous attention to detail and those clamps are super convenient. Reliable gear and beautiful planter.
Boy, do you have a lucky wife. Look at how organized you shop is. Look at the detail-work on that box, even using wood glue. You are inspiring!
Thank you very much!
I'm glad I found you channel. I am new to wood working. I'm building a nice wood working power tool collection. So far, I've build a flat bottom boat, saw horses, mallets. The planter box, rustic cooler, and a nice living room adjustable book shelf coming soon, with yous guys help. Thanks
Thank you very much! Please send me pics of the projects once you make them so I can post them on my website.
Nice to see a workshop with plenty of room and not filled up with household items
Thanks!
Saw it at work last night loved it. Went home and made it today with my son. Nice job keep it up, I'm handy but not great at making up stuff to build lol.
Kasey Morris Thank you! Please post a picture of the one you made on my FaceBook page. Nobody has posted any pictures of a planter box yet.
Okay, I made two.

Thank you again! I watched last year and now again to refresh my memory. You do great work!
This is a great design! I like the contrast provided by the top and the edges of the bottom boards.
This is a pretty cool project....especially for a beginner. Had some trouble with the angles of the legs...seeing I couldn't find any cedar pickets....just pine....but it came out great for a first attempt and the wife is happy!
Fun project and exceptional camera work!
Thank you very much!
Nice and i am glad you did it with a cheap saw... I am more confident in the saw i have which is the same one.. I guess its less about the tool and more about the man behind it.. Nice Table
Thanks!
Nice job. One suggestion is titebond 3, as it's more appropriate for outdoor projects, esp for a planter! Great job though.
That looks really good, nice work!
Beautifully executed. Not only the woodworking, but the great video editing. It almost makes me believe I could do this!
Martin Taubman Thank you Martin! I believe in you and totally think that you can do it.
Great job. I am ready to give it a try. Wish you were here to help!😊
that is the most beautiful planting box IV seen

Thank you!
It would be interesting to see how it has held up.
It's still in the same spot on my front porch 9 years later. It could use another coat of finish though.
Well explained and filmed all the way through. Great vid. Thanks from over the pond, England.
Thank you very much!
Very nice work and easy, I made a few of these but instead of coating the inside with polyurethane I used rolled plastic and stapled to the inside. You can find it at Lowe’s in the paint department.
Got it, thanks!
I felt the urge to come back and watch this video for the third time and complement you for such an excellent job.
Subbed. Straight forward but classy. Detailed, but also very enjoyable to watch.
Great job! I like the design and finished product.
I like the box . Good work have fun and don't worry about knuckle heads commenting .
so this was my first woodworking project! Thanks for the video! I must have watched it 20 times!
Awesome. When do you go into production? I am ready to order!!
Roxann Moore-Coleman right now! Why wait?
What's your price? I think I'm going to need at least 4
Hope you are receiving much support. I found doing manual labor was one way to help me cope. Love 2U and Angelina
excellent video and crisp narration. Thanks
Thank you very much.

I'd make the hubby do this if only we had all those tools!! Nice planter box..
Great job man. I have seen and built a lot of theses planters and yours ranks right up there. Keep the fun in it.
Nice job! Now I have to make one!
Just a suggestion. Not sure if it would help later on in life but laying cheese cloth on the bottom inside will prevent any soil from seeping out in time, we do it with our potted plants and coffee filters. Works great with them, figured cheese clothe on a bigger scale
EXCELLENT job bro!!!!

Looks like a fun project. Good edit.
Great video and editing! Bob Villa and This old house got nothing on you. This was a very well made video, thank you👍.
Thank you very much!
wow you have pretty good tools. I kind of want to make a project like you did but don't have those tools

Clear, concise video. Subbed.

Awesome video and great planter. Very helpful! Thorough, but relatively short. Thanks so much.
Must be nice with all those tools.
It is. You should save up your money like I did and try it sometime.
Planter looks great!
great job so beautiful thank for showing

I was thinking the same thing about the bottom boards needing to be on the inside. Drainage holes also should have been drilled.

What is a cleat?
I love your videos keep it up
very nice job and great video Donald!

John Attinger I have the best luck with the pickets if I can let them dry out for a few weeks in my garage.
Great looking planter box! Thank you for sharing the process. Going to be making a new one for my vegetable garden this weekend 🤗
Thanks and good luck!
I absolutely love this style!!!By any chance can you provide the "brand name" for the Spar Urethane and the light Cherry stain that you used?
Great project. And a pleasure to watch your video.

thanks for the post may just have to make one of these sweet planters!!
Thanks, if you make one please send me pics to share on my site!

Will do man!!
Starting to make smaller versions of your planter box for Christmas presents....Thanks
Man, this is really really nice! I don't have equipment like you but i have been thinking of buying accent table for my living room but couldn't find the right color or type, i got an idea from you for it. Thanks for the detailed video. :)
Awesome. I just contracted with someone to build a planter for me. Subbing.
That's awesome! Good luck!
Hope it looks half as good as yours!!!
Awesome job well done.
thats a giant drill,, nice!!
That table saw zeeeeerrr was cool af!
That’s nuts!

very nice looking
AWESOME, EXCELLENT, WONDERFUL, AMAZING JOB, I LOVE IT THANKS FOR SHARING
Great video keep up the great work cheers
Thank you for the fun video. I am looking for ideas for a pineapple plant. I think I can adapt your design for that.
+Wally Kellett Awesome! I would love to see it when it's done.

WHEW!!! Almost one of the longest sentences I ever read...and so unclear!!! A little punctuation would probably make it understandable...
Impressive, great job! I'm gonna want to build one for my mother... thanks for sharing ...
Looks great! I plan to build a few of these after watching :) I might add I built the loft bed you built and love it as well..excellent work!
Thank you very much! Please post pictures on my facebook page when you get it done.
Good job, you have some good tools too.
This is awesome
nice job
Love this video. Nicely done. I like the way you utilized your dog eared boards. never thought of that. I have many... :) Liked and subbed....
Thanks! It just seemed like a good way to utilize as much of the board as possible.
Thanks for the video, and great work! I envy you with all the awesome tools you've got, too.
Melody Chang Thanks!
Suggestion: Line the inside with landscaping weed fabric. I learned the hard way.
Thank you for your suggestion. The planter box is over 6 years old now and we have not had any issues without the fabric.
Nice Job Donald! Great first video!
Wood glue and screws…👍🏼 this will last forever!
It's 10 years old now and still holding strong!
Wow, that looks great!
This is man shit right here. I don't know what it is but building shit excites the hell out of me. So much respect for folks who build beauty out of wood (not talking about baby making). LOL
Excellent video
love the editing....looks awesome, great job overall
Thank you.
It looks awesome. The only question/concern I have is wouldn't treating the wood tamper with the soil and the growth of the plants you're putting into it?
I have no idea. There have been plants in it for about 10 months and nothing has died yet.
theeyiff theeyiff theeifff. cool. Awesome planter, love the 2 tone. I'm going in my garage now, thanx.
Great job
Killer job. Looks xlnt
Thank you!
this planter's built stronger than my first apartment
Mine too!

sure wish i had all those tools!
Great video
It's the first one that I had to do any real editing on so I think that counts! Thanks man.
