We really appreciate that Billy!!! Thank you so much for showing us love, it really means a lot!! We pray we can hit 100K by the end of the year, that will be our New Years gift...
I know it man. He certainly belongs in the hall of fame. But hell look how long it took them to put Rush in. I don't know who makes the choices over there. But they don't seem to listen to the same rock we do .
H&J, this is George's combination of two John Lee Hooker songs, "House Rent Boogie" and "One Bourbon One Scotch One Beer". George added alot of words to each song, and there ya go! You'll love his "Who Do You Love", "Bad To The Bone" and "Move It On Over"
According to Wikipedia Amos Milburn recorded it in 1953 and topped the charts with it. I've never heard it. john Lee Hooker recorded it in 1966 and that is my favorite. I don't really like this Thorogood version.
Amos Milburn never got the recognition he truly deserved. Wynonie Harris too. Check out the Milburn song, 'Chicken Shack'. Yeah this is a cover, but a respectful one. It was all about the artist's respect for his hero, John Lee Hooker- the blues King of Boogie. 😉
Been watching several of your reaction videos this evening. Thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you. That isn't my reason for commenting, though. It's for this: I'm a marriage therapist of 25 years and just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying the relationship you two have with each other. Besides the entertainment value of your vids, it's good for people to see what a great relationship looks like :-). So, my compliments to you. Cheers!
Nothing about a blunt in this song. gettin' high back in the day also referred to good alcohol. Drunk, High, it's all the same when you feeling Good and Melo
Definitely back in the day. Best tenants I ever had (huge old property) were two. The deal was cash, materials or labor. $25 a week. One worked at the local brick works and bought materials every week. The other did the installation and repairs. I would never have been able to restore that old place without them. This song was playing back then and we all loved it. Good weekend times on the porch or in the yard. Thanks for the memories.
ok this song was made famous by the Legendary Blues Man John Lee Hooker, that's why he says "I took my John Lee Hooker record collection and out the door I went" John Lee Hooker's grooves have been used in modern day rock a lot, ZZ Top's song "LaGrange" is totally lifted from John Lee's song "Boogie Chillin". This song is why I got into the blues. I heard that name, looked it up at the record store and I've been hooked ever since. Good Work Guys.
Seeing/hearing him play this live back in the late 80's and getting to touch his snakeskin suit during that "scratch my back baby" was a moment this gal will never forget....the whole place was singing along loud enough to shake the roof and yeah...."you know when you're mouth is getting dry" ;)
50K and 60K coming right up I'm sure! George Thorogood is underrated IMO. I LOVED that guy and his band (The Delaware Destroyers) when I was in high school. This brought back some memories. Good ones. If you know what I mean. ;-) SOME of those memories aren't too ... clear, but the kind of memories that bring ... yep ... Good Vibes! Keep it up!
Eddie and The Cruisers( John McCaffrey and Beaver Brown Band) On The Dark Side. Think you two would definitely like. Great movie and music. Should check it out.
Love how George tells these simple stories with his slide guitar response to everything about all of us can relate to at one time or another in one way or another. It was fun watching the two of you react to this as well.
*Guitarist ELVIN BISHOP graduated from Tulsa's Will Rogers High School in 1959 (along with my wife, who played piano-keyboard for several area bands in '60s-70s). IN SAME GRADUATING CLASS WAS DAVID GATES (1960's group 'Bread'), LEON RUSSELL, AND SHARON HANDLEY (Philharmonic Organist and Piano). ANITA BRYANT (Miss America) was from Will Roger's class of 1958......* BTW, ELVIN BISHOP HAS A BS IN PHYSICS FROM UNIV OF CHICAGO, he's a smart guitar player. My wife Sharon and Sharon Handley earned BA in music from Univ of Tulsa.
This is two songs by the great John Lee Hooker "Rent House Blues" and One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer". George put them together and made it really great
Yes a classic bar song. In my bands top 5 requested over the last 30yrs. I heard you bring up afro man song I partied with him for a whole month one night in hattiesburg mississippi he was wildman.. had a blast. You too having too much fun. Enjoyed the visit. You too brighten my day.
When he is saying "Im gonna get high,Im gonna get loose" he is not talking about smoking a J, though he could, it is an old school term that means getting drunk. In my day people would say I'm gonna get stoned or high that just means drunk .
This version is actually a medley of two songs. The first section, before he goes to the bar, is "House Rent Boogie" by John Lee Hooker. The actual "One Bourbon..." song is everything after the singer goes to the bar. John Lee Hooker also did a version of "One Bourbon..." although the original, with a switched order (One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer) was written by Rudy Toombs and recorded by Amos Milburn in 1953. George Thorogood is an interesting guy. He, like many players, learned to play by copying songs from records. Unlike a lot of players, he instinctively understood not only what the songs should sound like, but the styles of the players. John Lee Hooker, for instance is far different in style from Howlin' Wolf, who's different from Buddy Guy. The thing that makes Thorogood so unique, especially in his early albums, is that when he does a cover, it sounds a *lot* like the original because he understands that player's style. It's still a George Thorogood cover and is unmistakably his, but it feels like it could be of the era of the original.
This is actually a cover of two songs, both by John Lee Hooker. The first is House Rent Boogie the second is One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer. That's why he's singing about not seeing his baby throughout the second part of the song. He's not upset over the rent because that was actually a different song.
You got it Larry. Old school liquor/bar talk. Gettin' high references were about drinking ... the alcohol-high. Having a "dry mouth", expressed quenching the thirst with more.
I greatly enjoyed your reaction to this! I love Lonesome George!!! Anything you listen of his you will have a great time just like this. Hope to watch more very soon!
I know this video is about a year old, but it’s vaulted to one of my favorite video reactions by anyone of all time. You two have had way too much fun with this one! (admittedly it’s hard NOT to have fun listening to George Thorogood!)
Love this song i just wish you got to see the live version of this..i think it was at The Capitol Theatre..you missed out on so much watching George live...maybe a redo?💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
I didn’t expect to come across this song! My grandfather is really good friends with George! Haha I have to show him this! Move it on over has always been my favorite song of his. I Ofcourse grew up listening to George and going to his shows. He’s a great guy!
Everybody funny. Now you funny too. That’s always my fav line. Glad you guys enjoyed this, I’ve been listening to George Thorogood since high school and was just listening yesterday while cleaning. Always fun.
Rudy Tombs wrote this song and John Lee Hooker made it popular but George thorogood kills in the best way possible with that Bo Diddley beat. You can look up the names. Killer song thanks for reacting to it. By the by no blunt, high in this song means getting drunk, that’s the term they used back in the day.
This ist always a fun song. :-) Yes, as other's have said ya should check out "I'm Drink Alone" und "Bad to the Bone" as well. Have a fun day und stay safe in your Haus from COVID if ya can. Auf Wiedersehen von Wiesbaden...smiles
Written in 1953. John Lee Hooker had a bit of a crossover hit in 1966. Thorogood made a fortune imitating John Lee Hooker and Bo Diddly, though there's no shame in that: everyone is copying someone else, and he was good at it.

It's a nice version of the song that George does here, the one I listened to back in the late 70's early 80's when I was in college.....but the original by John Lee Hooker has a feeling and texture that can't be beat. Check it out too.

Y’all drinking Sky Blue?! Haven’t seen one of those in 15-20 years but bottles look the same. Congrats on the weekend plans 😂🕺🏻
@@HalfAndJai Dont even worry about it! Ima push you the same way i plug all my other favorite channels. You both deserve it!
This song is a monster and especially George’s guitar playing. I never get tired of hearing it. Enjoyed your reaction very much.

"Everybody funny. Now you funny too"
Always loved that line, and I use it quite often in life!

Me and you both. With a finger pointing for emphasis
That and "but I'm tired" says g it the same way George does, of course

This was originally recorded by John Lee Hooker, but George made it his own 👌
The original hook was not even written by him because John Lee adapted it from other versions.
According to Wikipedia Amos Milburn recorded it in 1953 and topped the charts with it. I've never heard it. john Lee Hooker recorded it in 1966 and that is my favorite. I don't really like this Thorogood version.

I always thought this was john lee hooker...I'll have to check out the true original
It was two songs. House rent blues and One bourbon one scotch and one beer. Saw him at the Fox Theater in Atlanta. Killer show
He means getting drunk when he says "high."
Thank you, John. Yep
It bothered me to no end lol
Yeah no he doesn't.
Let them interpret it the way they see fit. Besides I never heard anyone say they’re high and I associated that with being drunk.
They also used to refer to being drunk as being stoned
George is the Man, so badass. Love his music
Nothing better than old rock n roll blues 💙
Lol! You two are great! 57 yr old white boy from Oregon. It's all about the love of music and humor. It's sustains life!

Sorry to disappoint but the old timers called being drunk.. high lol but I agree add the blunt haha
True
Shit about 3 or 4 of those Platinum you 2 have & he'd be good.
Stoned meant drunk also. As in, "Stone drunk". It has come to mean an altered state brought about by any substance.
This is so not true and I don't know why people keep telling you this
🤣🤣
It wasn’t a house party in Canada until two songs were played .... This one , and “Wasn’t That a Party” by a group called the Irish Rovers.
As well as Steve Miller and David Wilcox
All great music. The Irish Rovers and of course, David Wilcox. I can't choose just one lol. Riverboat Fantasy is definitely a good one though.

Round about 11:20, when Thorogood sings "Scratch my back baby," that guitar riff is called Chicken Pickin. It's a classic blues riff.

Back then getting "high" was the same as getting drunk.
Back when this song was new I was getting high and people been smoking weed for a hundred years!
This is actually 2 John Lee Hooker songs. The first half is "House Rent Blues."
Love you young folks checking out the bands back in the day! Love it!
Back then, we had "cotton mouth", because of alcohol, not weed.
He's got a great one called 'if you don't start drinking, I'm gonna leave' I think you'll get a kick out of it.
"I don't know, man. She's kind of funny"
"I said I know. Everybody funny! Now you funny too!"
‘ Bad to the Bone ‘ - unquestionably his best song
Sorry but no weed in the song. Getting high on booze. Even the old country singers talked about getting 'stoned' on booze. Fun reaction and on to 60k
YES! Thank you 😊
True but I still have this image in my mind of him going outside and lighting one up before returning to the bar haha
