Ive got some wegmans near me. Theyre like a village market on one side, and a normal grocery store on the other. Fresh food made in front of you, restaurants, and endless choices
@@danbelden7354 We used to do that in my part of NY as well. But it stopped being cheap a few years ago when the gas station on the other side of the bridge to Vermont was made to charge the same as the gas stations on my side of the lake. So it went from being beneficial to being pointless. The only reason for going on to the Vermont side of the bridge now is because you're either going into Vermont and need to top off or because you like the Jolley stores better than Stewart's.
@ I got that way too and I go to WAGS which is always 30-40 cents cheaper than Ticonderoga. But I go to Middlebury every two weeks and it about 50 cents a gallon cheaper there.
Wegmans started and is based in Rochester which is where I grew up and still live, we are very spoiled by Wegmans (I think WholeFoods and others have copied what Wegmans created). Tops grocery is Buffalo based and also another good store but Wegmans is better ;-)
@@novicelumberjack Hey BP&IP, Arkansas, probably no Thanksgiving visit from me, hope y'all are having a blast and best of luck with your new endeavors!😁👊
I'm sure you are correct. The place is only about two hours from Cleveland and three houses from Pittsburgh, so it's probably a little different shopping up towards Vermont and Canada.
mostly the property taxes are higher than in other states. 2-3x many other states. sales tax was 2% higher than what I paid in PA. people want more for their rusted out vehicles too. more regulations. more things are illegal. That said , upstate NY generally ignores alot of the excessive laws and regulations. and I like upstate NY people. giant smart asses which are my favorite. 😃
So far, the people here are the best thing about this area. SUPER friendly and fun. Absolute stark contrast to the south. These folks are really open to a laugh and some good conversation. So far, there are only two things that I have found to be abnormal in cost; gas and cigarettes. Gas is about a dollar per gallon more expensive and smokes are about double the price. But haven't smoked since saw fest, and I have never been an actual smoker, so no big deal. I dont find the taxes to be too bad either. I've been in Atlanta. Taxes are not cheap in city limits.
@@novicelumberjack I've been processing and rolling my own organic tobacco since 1998, when NY raised the cigarette tax and a pack hit $3.25. Organic, whole-leaf tobacco with no additives was a huge health improvement over government-approved smokes.
Lol your buying some off brand cereal! They have that cheap stuff even here in Washington State! I steer away from it but it is available! Glad your happy in your new adventure and I absolutely wish you the best! Congratulations!
It all depends on where you're at in the country-side. While the prices aren't insanely ridiculous here they are still too expensive. Mainly because my town is on the border going into Quebec. So all of the prices are set to entice the Quebecer's to shop here more than to give all of the locals a break. But they have sales on certain items constantly so it's not a big deal. It's always been like that here and will probably continue to be.
I feel like there's a joke that I'm missing! I thought the place was awesome! Topps looks pretty shitty though. Maybe that's the joke? Is Wegmans the only nice store?
@@novicelumberjack What part of NY were you in? I've personally never seen a Wegmans. It's all Price Chopper/Market 32, Hannaford's and ALDI in my area. We also have a lot of Stewart's Shop gas stations around here too. If you ever encounter one on your trip give some of their ice cream a try, it's awesome. I'm willing to travel 6 miles to the nearest Stewart's just to get their ice cream instead of buying ice cream from the grocer here in town.
Welcome to NY! I hope you find it comfortable.

Good hearing from you and glad no culture shock was found in the grocery store👍🏻

Just counting chicken, eggs, and blueberries i am at 140$ a week. Add in a little more for variety and i typically spend 175$-200$ a week for food.
Yeah man, we got a buggy full of nothing and it cost $181. But that's no different than we are used to.
Eggs in Saskatchewan Canada 5-7 bucks a dozen
Groceries are about the same in New York as they were when I lived in NC. However gas, diesel and cigarettes are way more expensive.
Hahaha! I just replied to someone else about the fuel and cigarettes! Yes, they are expensive!
@@novicelumberjack that’s why I travel to Vermont weekly, because it’s cheaper there
@@danbelden7354 Yep. I'm only ten miles away.

Is your house in GA sold yet? How much are you wanting for it?
It has not sold yet. I don't expect it to until spring/summer. If you look, you can find it. We are asking 900k.
and for all the haters..... didn't jamestown vote red?
Yes, it did. But c'mon, polictics are boring.
@novicelumberjack agree! just calling out the haters saying how horrible new York would be
Is that sugar free cereal?
Blue New York couldn't be no worse than Blue Fulton County, GA. Maybe Trump will go easy on those who prosecute him.
That’s “persecute”!😢
Dude, shut the hell up about politics. Surely you have something more interesting to bring to the conversation than politics.
Hey, that's the first time you ever responded. Thank you sorry.
