I love my nemo hornet. I went camping with some friends and they spent almost 45mins setting up their tent. I showed up late and took all of 10mins to put mine up. They were jealous and a month later they all bought something like mine.

I love my Copper Spur! I got mine last year on sale, I got the 2P size, which in the tent world is really a 1 person tent. I tried a HVUL1, and it was just too tight for me, and had not room for my gear. I like the double vestibules- I use the "back door' one to keep my muddy, stinky hiking boots at night. Just great all around tents. I used a Eureka timberline 2 for 30 years (yes, the same tent from when I was a teenager in the early 90's, and my timberline 4 (great car camping tent)....the big agnes forced at least my old Timberline 2 into retirement, haha.

I am ecstatic with my personal experience with the REI Quarter Dome SL 1. It has provided me with serious shelter protection during a recent overnight @ 9,735' here in Nevada. Mother nature started blowing ferociously strong gusty winds for hours. I was starting to shiver from the windchill. Once inside, my tent provided me with protection from the cold wind & my air mattress & sleeping bag provided me with what I need to get warm & stay warm. I would have most likely perished due to hypothermia had it not been for my tent, mattress, & sleeping bag. Fortunately, I put heavy rocks on top of all 10 tent stakes that would otherwise have been pulled out of the ground due to the ferocious cold, gusty wind velocity. I DO NOT carry trekking poles.

what are the lightest options for 4 person tents?
Reading specifications and making decisions isn't "real world", although it helps. I have the Nemo Hornet 2P and bought it for a number of reasons. What I didn't find out, until after using it, is that the shortened fly causes rain to fall on the tent body and run down between the tent floor and your fly so that over time you get water into your tent. The Big Agnes Flycreek has a larger fly so "I think" solves this problem although I don't have it so don't really know.
And, weight is extremely important so not talking about it leaves an important part out.
Finally, using pictures which have exposed ground sheets isn't the best. If actually set up like this and it rains you'll get rain between the ground sheet and the tent and that water will then come up through the bottom of the tent.
I went for a BA Fly Creek HV 2 it's not easy to pitch in a wind but once up no flapping weighs about 800 gms which is insane for a sub £300 tent. Makes you look for a sheltered pitch so method in the madness I suppose.
With all due respect . The tents featured are mainly for the USA Market.. The real best are Nordic .. Hilleburg, Helsport, and Nordisk. And even Naturehike and 3f Ul gear are worthy of consideration.. I do rate Nemo for some applications . However Agnes , MSR are over priced for the quality... Just saying it as I find it..P.S. You find the MSR Hubba Hubba to be the best bang for the buck.. ??? I suggest the Naturehike Mongar .. Identical.. for a 3rd of the price..

Nice video. Good that you give a quick review without faffing about. How do you rate Exped tents such as the Lyra? Also Alpkit Javan? To be honest though none of these tents are budget. Also they look like they wouldn’t last 5 minutes in the UK. It rains here, we have gusty strong winds blowing the rain horizontally, the ground is stoney and would make a hole in the groundsheet in seconds, and twigs and wind blown cats would puncture the fly sheet. All that mesh! It would be freeeeeezing! And look at the colours! How are you supposed to stealth camp without being spotted and shot by the farmer? Also if these are American tents where do you store your guns?
I can only speak for the Nemo Hornet 1P, but mine's been fine in the UK including then Cambrian way a couple of years ago. I use it extensively as a three-season tent here in Scotland where we do have rain and sometimes even heavy rain! The mesh does make for a 'cooler' tent but I've never had problems with condensation. North of the border we have the right to camp on open land so being stealthy isn't an issue.
Many people complain (2021-2022) about micro-splinters from the poles of the Hubba Hubba. Luckily, I was reading reviews at REI and avoided buying or considering this tent for now. Some doesn’t seem to care, I do. (I love the quality of MSR and proudly bought Mountaineering tents in the past with excellent results; I hope they address this particular concern of the carbon poles).

My opinion is that the tarptent double rainbow $300 at 2.6 lbs semi freestanding or $600 for the 1.8b dyneema version. Kind of a no brainer unless your solo then zpaks altamid really or any zpaks are great, but you need to use trekking poles which I don’t personally like I prefer finding hiking sticks in nature personally

A backpacking tent MUST HAVE exosceleton pole setup. Unless you only camp in dry weather.
We've just had (as normal) three weeks of rain and hard wind. Rasing a tent with a guaranteed dry inside, makes a big difference.
Hey, I'm looking for a new tent myself which has brought me here. I'm in the UK and so definitely need a wind and rain proof and durable tent. Do you have any recommendations? I would prefer not to spend over £380ish

I have two 2-person tents and one 1-person tent. The one 2-person tent and the 1-person tent are for backpacking (2,4 kg and 2,0 kg). Not extreme light, but weights that are not "made up Chinese weights" and fits adult Europeans !
Without the inner-tent and just using tarp at the bottom and a mosquito-net, the weight drops a lot.

I don't trust channels like this that do 'reviews' that have affiliate links. Nothing is ever ideal and there are always compromises, for balance some of these should be pointed out to create a proper critical review. For example stating the Big Agnes is a quick set up... really? You've got all those poles to attach to the inner then getting the fly over and fixed in place, plus pegging it out. See what I mean. The other issue is that you have to pitch the inner first - downside in a downpour.
Good video. But I don't see any difference between all of this tents and between all tents for past few years.
This list could be ten Naturehike tents and ten 3F UL tents.

I've been a bit disappointed with MSR recently. I dont think their build quality is all that great. We had a Pappa Hubba where the PU broken down on both the flysheet and inner tent. Whole tent failure after little use in 18 months. The Tour 2 is just not a good design and leaked through the pole connection ties from new. I fixed it with seam sealer but its a design flaw. I reckon big agnes is the top dog now.
My hubba hubba was terrible 😢. Pole cracked, red dye stained the white material, it leaked etc. This all happened with the first use
Marmots come with a footprint and you can just pitch this with the fly to get out of the weather that I like
If it's about budget price give the PRICE and it's alternatives.

Best if you want to support the big named companies. Not the best for ultralight or lightweight backpacking. For example , one of the lightest tents (16oz ) is from Zpacks. Then Tarptent has one that starts at 17.5 oz for a solo tent.
Some I have , A Tarptent Moment ( 34 oz ). The Six Moons Designs Lunar Solo (26oz ) , a really roomy solo tent . Next would be the Dan Durston X-Mid-1 P Tent ( 28oz ) from Massdrop. The inner section can be installed after the outer one is up if it's raining plus It sets up in a hurry.
To top it all off most of my camping is with Jungle Hammocks since I go Ultralight. Then I need to have a tent you know the ones I have and like. There are a lot more Cottage Industry tents out there in the 16oz to 32 oz category for both solo or doubles.
And they're all paper thin and won't last. Plus zpack is also a big name
Just a note for future videos to watch your background. It looks like you have two bike tires growing out your ears. Try taking a photo 1st so that you can examine that and easily pick up any oddities. Cheers for the review.

Nice but bro, you should put the weight (and in kg too, for the rest of the world) of every tent you mention and price of the time of filming, these are the first most important metrics!!
Bought a Big Agnes hvul2 tent. After about 10 uses the rainfly zipper failed. Big Agnes could not repair and my tent model had been discontinued so I was left to get a rain fly off of Amazon and cut the old connectors off (because newer models aren’t compatible) and have them sewn on the new rainfly.
So in other words there warranty is ass

Haha agreed🤭. I bought a $30AUD hiking tent from Aldi, and it was awesome, 1 pole, slept 2 people, lasted me over 5 years and was spacious and easy to setup.

I think we have a different definition of ultralight. All of these tents are WAY too heavy for my taste. I like to keep it around 20oz or less.
Next time put in normal units, that work for the rest of the world...

Error #1-> No Tarptent models shown.

Error #3-> two person tents should be 4 lbs. or less, one person tents 2 lbs. or less. SHOW TENT WEIGHTS!
Eric B. I agree with error #2. this is one of the biggest mistskes and disadvantages. I can‘t understand why it is so complicated to build a good tent. Maybe all manufacteurs living in sunny westher with no rain 😡 and it doesn‘t matter if you spent 100€/$ or 1000. all same shit.
Agree with #1. "Tarptents" are now pretty mainstream with all kinds of different models available. At least a mention of them with how to find more info. would have been more honest.

None of these tents are on my "best list" for those reasons.
There is so many good tents by Zpacks, Mountain Laurel Designs, Gossamer Gear, Locus gear, Tarptent and so on that is way lighter and, I will argue, many of them way better at standing up to winds and harsch conditions.
I understand that this video isn't aimed for especially interested people who buy cottage gear, but there is so many tents even among mainstream manufacturers that is certainly more interesting, depending on what is prioritized.
Sea to Summit Escapist is less than 14 oz, but then we have to add tent pegs, but that's a tent at about a pound.
Of course, this require walking sticks (unless sticks from the wood is used, cut to lenght).
For a bombproof and really spacious tent for two, there is the Hilleberg Anaris at 1.4 kg, about 3 lbs 2 oz plus tent pegs.
Budget option to this, 3F UL Lanshan Pro 2.
Need a freestanding tent?
Look at Terra Novas tents, Solar or Voyager Ultra for one or two persons respectively.
Or Black Diamond Hilight 2.
Just a few mentioned as examples, there is plenty!
This video seemed to basically mention very similar tents (freestanding or semi-freestanding tents, most of them only possible to rise up inner first.)
Well, I think some of them are great tents, but they are surely not the best tents for everybody under all conditions, I would like to see much more diversity in a video like this!
(Brands, type of tents, price range and so on.)
@@MrDanAng1 wow lot more tent manufacturers as I know. I look up their homepages. Most are similar to the well known brands and uh price range is not far away from Hilleberg and co. Lightweight and stable are not cheap.
I need a 2p tent for motorcycling. WIth an apsis for my gear, freestanding, Not innertent first then outertent, if raining and you open the tent, no rain in the tent please. Even a tent for motorcycle brand from USA make same stupid tents (and they said: we make tents for motorcycling---- yes in summer conditions) Around 3kg the tent poles not longer then 40cm.
If you take some of the great high price tents, and yes some very cheap ones, they have damn good ideas and space and..., put it together produce a lot of them and you get a nearly perferct one. But they all want to become rich...
DieTabbi research Dan Durston Mid 1 or 2 person tents. They do require 2 trekking poles or tent poles that go to 120cm. The 1 person weighs in at just over 1 lb and is $200. Worth checking out and seeing if it will suit your needs.
These aren't ultralight.
Tents that pitch inner first are bad for wet climates.
It would be nice if you give the weight parameters also in kg or grams. Otherwise the film is useless for many people

Except that he's only looking at US tents, and they use Imperial measurements there. He's addressing a narrow audience.
David S yeah I have to convert to cm to inches all the time. I can convert from the european’s measurements so can they. There is lots of web pages with online calculators. I used to know the formulas but this is easier. A 1 kg tent means big bucks! I use a heavier one ( and sturdier) and split the load with the kids.
Tech Guy you don’t want to convert anything while watching the movie. It’s disturbing.

I don't think this guy has heard of ultralight tents... There are plenty out there that are half the weight of the lightest tent in this vid...
You have not included and of the best tents available... You have no DCF tents, the best material for true ultralight backpacking. Try ZPACKS Tents or Tarptents. Even Big Agnes has a DCF version of some of its tents now. You don't consider any of them. These are very expensive, but you can't say you are reviewing the best without at least looking at these tents. This video is a dis-service to those who might watch it. Consider a 2 person tent that is just over 1 pound made of a material so tough it doesn't require a ground cloth. You missed the boat on this topic.

What a misleading title - he's only looked at a few makers (all US), and only freestanding or semi-freestanding double-skinned designs.
I think most people are aware that the BA Copper Spur and the MSR Hubba Hubba are good tents.
But are most people aware that you can get them cheap via Naturehike (Star River, Mongar).
Most of the tents you show are shit on bad weather , barely waterproof or i mean if it rains 1-2 hours u will be very wet in those tents haha
