Virgils relationship with Bruce was seriously underrated. Bruce *willingly* shared his secret identity with him when he didn't have to, something probably less than 10 people on the planet could claim. And after the first crossover you could always tell he had as much genuine respect for Virgil as Virgil had admiration and respect for him.

I fondly remember the second half of the Justice League cross over, when Static has to battle the mind controlled Flash, tried to beat him by flying over some water, only to be dismayed at Flash's ability to run across water. Good times
It's funny to think about how mixing him into the main DC animated universe was clearly a last minute decision. There's a line where Static's coming up with his secret identity and his friend just casually drops that he knows the Superman/Clark Kent thing, as if, you know, it's just a fictional comic book within that setting. Even so, it's funny how even in THAT form he's getting inspired by Superman. Come to think of it, did they ever rewrite and rerecord that line to fix the continuity issue, or did they just let it ride like they did with Gwen's grandma telling her, the girl who's literally fought actual wizards, that "magic isn't real"? Well, in Ben 10's case, they never did mix that into the DCAU so it stuck as it's own show for a good while, confusing contradictory concepts and all. I remember watching the entire season twice just to make sure I hadn’t missed something that would unlock it for me, but it never did. Season three was a huge disappointment. So much so that I never even bothered to watch season four, which is unusual for me. Ordinarily if I like a show, I am with it until the bitter end even if it sucks.
I am a little surprised you did not mention Virgil in justice league unlimited episode. As a 65 year-old man with gray dreads, and being one of the leagues, heavy hitters on par with Superman was…..just awesome
Static Shock was a major part of my childhood. Loved the crossovers with over DC heroes, but him and Gear doing their own thing and interacting with the city was what held my attention.
As a kid I loved this show because it was a young hero who took his own path. He could be serious about important issues, yet still knew how to crack a joke. The whole concept behind the superpowers being "bad people being at the wrong place at the wrong time to turn them into true monsters" with Virgil being there reluctantly (and even SHOWING him throwing away the gun he was given was just PERFECT) having a lot of impact. ...and then the modern comic version has the Bang Babbies being "protestors", THUS RUINING THE MESSAGE BEHIND THE VILLAINS/VILLAINY. Screw the newer comic, they did the series dirtier than Young Justice did.
What's even more ironic about all these crossovers between Batman, Superman, Justice League, Batman Beyond etc. is that originally Bruce Timm didn't want Static Shock to be in the same universe as Batman and Superman.
Freaking TH-cam messing up again. I honestly enjoyed seeing Virgil interact with other heroes in the graater DCAU and where he sits. I honestly see him as Bruce's third son, chronologically, after Richard and Tim but before Terry and Max. I honestly wish we saw more of him, especially in unlimited where we only got to see his future self.
Static Shock is one of my favorite DC animated series! However of all the crossovers he had with Superman Batman and the league we never saw him have one with Wonder Woman, not in HIS show anyway. He finally worked with her in that one JL Unlimited episode but that was short because she just disappeared from existance until everything was fixed and reset.
It seems kinda interesting that they switched Batman's design midway through the season to match his JLU style only to revert back for the Batman Beyond episode. I know in the DCAU Batman has 2 different designs depending upon if he’s on a solo adventure or aiding the League as a part timer (same suit, different art style), but this show uses both designs interchangeably (even in the same season).
I honestly never even knew Static existed until the 2 part Chronos episode when Bats, Lantern and Diana travel into the future and saw old man Static. When Batman talked to him like they'd known each other for years i was just thinking "Who's this guy? 🤔". They didn't broadcast Static shock here in the uk as far as i remember, so i never knew this series existed till years later.
Well, in Future Shock, the message left by Richie was actually a fake to lure older Static into a trap. Static being told Gear was on a secret mission on the other side of the world allowed him to deduce what happened. Though, given what the episode implies about closed time loops, older Static may have gone into the trap on purpose to keep things as they should be.
Watching The Superman episode about Darcey and then the Static episode that concludes her story is such a whiplash. Darcey's introduction in STAS made her out to be this imperfect victim, who did horrible things to finally be able to live free and not as a possession. She's not a good person but when you see how creepy Toyman is towards her, you're still understanding of her and root for her to an extent. The direction the writers chose to take with Toyman and Darcey in the Static episode feels so wrong.
Why am I getting the notification late? I honestly liked seeing Virgil interact with the great DCAU and seeing where he places. I hate that we didn't get to see him older in Unlimited outside of his future self. I see Virgil as Bruce's third son, chronologically in universe after Dick and Time but before Terry and Max. Bruce really treats Virgil as his own and believes in him.
From what I've heard there were talks to do a live-action Static Shock movie for the DCEU but Warner Bros. Executives had been dragging their feet on greenlighting the project with the hesitation being that Static Shock isn't marketable enough to justify putting the necessary resources into making a movie or TV show. Does that make any sense, no- an entire generation was raised with Static Shock, you would be hard pressed to find anyone born between the late 80's to the early 2000's who hasn't seen at least one episode or has at least heard of Static Shock he's as notable as Superman or Batman at this point, but all executives care about is projections and constant growth which is the reason why the show was canceled in the first place. WB wasn't making what they felt was enough money off of toy sales so they didn't renew the show- a fucking travesty if you ask me.
I'm still surprised and offended we haven't gotten more Milestone Comics adaptions since Static Shock. The most is Rocket, Icon, and Static in Young Justice. You'd think by now they'd do another Milestone Comics label an animated series or movie.
Statics powers being able to be straight power based but also having non combat uses is crazy. Static might be the realest hero show ever made, it didnt treat the audience luke they were not aware if what was going on things kids should be protected from.
Always glad to see more Static Shock. The crossovers were really exciting, it was so cool seeing such a good hero join this wider world, to stand alongside such heroic icons as equals. Really looking forward to the Superman and Lois video, that final season is one for the record books, so good from start to finish.
So he makes the line about "static coming into a new frontier" over the scene of static finding the batplane to locate batman and robin...when richie says its voice comanded, virgil immediately does a star trek impression...IP thought we woudnt notice...ha! We did
There were intentions to have him cross with Black Lightning, but I think rights issues got in the way, so the intended crossover got retooled into spotlighting the original hero, Soul Power.

Funny, when I was a kid, I thought all the superhero shows looked so dorky, but I LOVED Static Shock. It just felt more real to me. Somehow, I missed all the DCAU crossover episodes, and didn't get into the DCAU until I was an adult.
I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I read somewhere that the original draft of the justice league episode was supposed to be a crossover with the teen Titans, like, the Murikami Teen Titans, but owing to production concerns and the very long turnaround time in making episodes, they realized that the Teen Titans crossover would have aired months before a Teen Titans itself hit the air, so they rewrote it to be a justice league crossover. I’m not sure if that original draft was a one or two parter. I would love to know more about that, assuming it’s true. Just like static was intended to be a completely standalone show that ended up getting folded into the DCAU , Teen Titans was intended to be a completely standalone show unrelated to anything else, but to me, it seems to have been more subtly folded into the DCAU as well. Everyone disagrees with me about that but, hey, Kid Flash, Speedy, and a cameo of Gotham Knights Nightwing….
I was so sad legal reasons never let us see Static and Gear in Justice league unlimited. Static shock ends with them cleaning up bang babies and that surely would mean league status right? Future static cameos just left me dissatisfied he never shows up in the actual show even in the background
With the popularity of Static's show I was always surprised he never got a second show or even a full movie. Static became a cultural Icon for a lot of kids in the early 2000s and I wished he had reached even higher levels or mainstream media
3:21 Actually Static did meet the Teen Titans. Remember DC comics’ Event *Terror Titans written by Sean Mckeever?* That is Static debut into the DC universe post Infinite Crisis 2006(The One where Superboy Prime Punch reality) After Terror Titans, Static joins the Teen Titans in the comics. It was Teen Titans issue 69, Written by Sean McKeever which is continued the Geoff Johns’ Era of Teen Titans. When Static Join The Teen Titans, Tim Drake wasn’t part of the team at the time, He was Red Robin at the time. Cassie aka Wonder Girl was Leader of the Teen Titans when Static joined. Static and Miss Martian left the team in issue 87 and Static was supposed to have his own series where the story left off of his losing his powers leading into *Static Shock Special back in August 2011.* Static’s final story before the New 52 happened. At least Static was remembered. Because there Teen Titans members like Aquagirl and Bombshell are forgotten. I haven’t read Static New 52 comic. I head it was bad and it was criticize because the writer of the comic is not black. I know Static in new 52 who is Star Labs intern and he created a suit to help Bar Tor, New 52 Kid Flash to stabilize his molecules. Static only use his power once in New 52 Teen Titans. He did not join the team and that is disappointing. Static also Team up with Black Lightning in the comics. DC’s The Brave and Bold issue 24, in 2009.
Question: Does anyone know if there is some comprehensive book that goes over all details, notes and production of the entire DC animated universe or Timmverse?
It’s funny now that I think about it. Although Static is “an American black teen” in a city with downtrodden areas, the city of Dakota has a demographic distribution more similar to what you might see in a place like the UK. I forget that the divisions that exist here are largely a part of the fact that our country is young and the segregation that existed as part of the nature of its very creation is why very few urban areas in the US have the diversity within the communities that is shown in the show. The uk is a relatively old country … or group of countries? Nation states? Autonomous regions? -Whatever and as such the presentation of diversity in static shock wouldnt seem as weird as it does to me. In justice league green lantern lives in the hood, hood. A lot more homogeneous so there was awareness of what the reality of such areas is
@gargoywarrior4146 In a way that seems accurate, just Static's show itself.... We've seen him team up with Batman & Robin to catch the Joker. We've seen him and Gear at the watch tower with the original 6 minus Wonder Woman. We've seen him team up with Johnathan Stwert and their fight against Sinestro. We've seen him team up with Superman to catch Toyman.
First comment on You Tube ever.. I love your channel.. but I am really surprised you didn’t at least make a mention of the DCAU crossover that Static shock was in the Chronos episodes in your DCAU of Static Shock and the JLU. Not a criticism, just an observation.
Just finished this show before hbo max takes it off probably forever. Shit was sick as a black guy seeing a black superhero. Better impact than black panther
It's more that Black Panther's impact had faded by your time. Black Panther had a similar level of notoriety and importance in the 60s and 70s as Static had in the 90s and 2000s, different heroes for different times.
@@Cri_Jackal Black Panther didnt have an animated presence until after his MCU appearance, Blade and Static Shock were the black icons in the 90s and 2000s.
@@Bionickpunk you literally didn't even respond to what I said. First guy states that Static had a better impact than Black Panther. I point out that perceiving it like that is a generational thing, for black kids in the 70s, the impact of Black Panther was akin to what Static was for 90s and 2000s black kids. You then reply saying Black Panther "had no animated presence" before the MCU (even though he was literally featured in every animated Marvel universe since the 90s), and that Blade and Static were the black icons of the 90s. That doesn't contradict what I said, nor does it add anything new to what the first guy said, all you did was reiterate something I already accounted for and add a blatantly false extra statement.
Virgil going to the future made absolutely no sense, for one if he time jumped 40 yrs that means he was gone for 40yrs and wouldn't have been able to grow into his older self, such a glaring plot hole
Time breaking apart, there is a JL episode where Batman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern goes to the future and meets Terry Mcginnis old Bruce Wayne and the future justice league, and Old Bruce says that he never went to the future and It was a time crack and people weren't ment to time travel, also in the same episode Green Lantern talks to old static and they both remember the Sinestro episode
Toyman is not an incel or giving off incel energy for feeling bettayed by her, ehen she actually betrayed him. Please use that term correctly otherwise it has no meaning 😒.
One thing you missed out on account of being non-American is that there is a distinct nuance between the “preachy” vibe of Static Shock and other “preachy content” that corporate companies put out today: Static, from day one, was designed to teach morals to black youth, that was the intended audience. The preachy approach reminds me of the pastor telling an entertaining story with a moral at the end. That part was immediate to me when I first watched the series all those years ago. I was delighted to find out it was inspired by his time in Christian school in Southern Iowa. I don’t think this show would pass today because it actually criticizes a lot of toxic behaviors within black culture. Behaviors that are lionized by some small vocal minority within the culture today. Some of the bullies and gang members from episode 1 would be celebrated today.

Static deserves to join the Justice League.

3:32 it hurts so deep, it still does
I like the mystery song of today tho easy to figure out.
I wanted Static in the Titans.
So awesome to see him crossover in the DCAU
GOD BLESS Dwayne McDuffie!
Question: Does anyone know if there is some comprehensive book that goes over all details, notes and production of the entire DC animated universe or Timmverse?
I really hope for a movie, with Phil LaMarr given a cameo
Gotta live Static
Batman name dropping the Ttans blew my mind when I was kid lol
Pretty Cool!!
Lets Gooooooo
A lot more homogeneous so there was awareness of what the reality of such areas is
I wonder how much Static being who he is influenced Bruce to recruit Green Arrow in JLU.
A possible 3rd milking?
Friendly Neighbourhood Static Shock
Static Shock was awesome 😎
Title is wild bruh
The only Justice League member we never got to see in the continuity universe with Static... Wonder Woman. 😭
Well they got meet when She traveled to the future with Batman and John.
He's never registered to me like the kind of guy into that sort of stuff, and TH-cam is hardly the platform for it
First comment on You Tube ever.. I love your channel.. but I am really surprised you didn’t at least make a mention of the DCAU crossover that Static shock was in the Chronos episodes in your DCAU of Static Shock and the JLU. Not a criticism, just an observation.
Im surprised DC never managed to ruin him by making him live action.
Statics rights are such red tape and annoyingly obtuse they don’t wanna bother
Awesome video. Think you’ll ever do videos on the Zeta Project btw?
Just finished this show before hbo max takes it off probably forever. Shit was sick as a black guy seeing a black superhero. Better impact than black panther
It's more that Black Panther's impact had faded by your time.
Black Panther had a similar level of notoriety and importance in the 60s and 70s as Static had in the 90s and 2000s, different heroes for different times.
@@Cri_Jackal Black Panther didnt have an animated presence until after his MCU appearance, Blade and Static Shock were the black icons in the 90s and 2000s.
@@Bionickpunk you didn't even read what I said.
@@Cri_Jackal No, I did, I don't think you properly read mine.
Hope you had a good day
Virgil going to the future made absolutely no sense, for one if he time jumped 40 yrs that means he was gone for 40yrs and wouldn't have been able to grow into his older self, such a glaring plot hole
WOO WOO!!
I believe in you, you should be able to get a third video out
Milk Static all you want. I see him I watch and like!
It's weird I can see superman's pupils
Pause…
Cool
Who?
Superman and lois season 4!!!
What does saying you said you loved me have to do with being involuntarily celebate

Toyman is not an incel or giving off incel energy for feeling bettayed by her, ehen she actually betrayed him. Please use that term correctly otherwise it has no meaning 😒.
you use some of the weirdest titles for some of your videos. An emoji? Really?
it was originally "Milking Static Shock" funnily enough
You were sooo close to making a good point. But the dog whistles always come out in the end
don't say it like that
