For real. As a kid, I wasn't a big fan of Brave and the Bold because I was too used to JL, Batman TAS, etc.
After rewatching it as an adult, I appreciate the series more and if I could I'd go back in time to give myself the Bat Slap.

It just says so much about Superman's character that when exposed to red kryptonite he puts cats in trees. Like that's the deep visceral instinct the red kryptonite reversed. At the core of Superman's soul, the very fibre of his being- is the kind of man that gets cats out of trees.

@jacksonbowns1087 oh there definitely was a discussion in the writer's room about "what's the most anti-Superman thing you could do?" and then they arrived at the hilarious answer of putting cats into trees😂

@@jacksonbowns1087 and that's what people fail to understand about media in general which leads to a trend of anti-intellectualism and a dearth of media literacy. If a piece of media is created with any intent or passion at all, it was done with a considerable amount of effort. Nothing is by accident. This goes for things like music videos and sitcoms, but ESPECIALLY for anything animated. The amount of intentionality that must necessarily go into creative endeavours makes it really ridiculous when people say something like Game/Film Theory (by no means the best quality example but certainly the most popular) is "reading too much into it"

I think it was atleast cause I remeber it ended with batmite saying how he is excited for a more edgier Batman cartoon that was coming out, like it got good ratings I think there was people who wanted something more serious like the original series who I presume annoyed the writers team

    • @electricfeverx976
      @electricfeverx976 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@@KuroeNezumi it definitely was overlooked in its time when it first came out. Many simply saw it on the surface as a dumbing down of the Caped Crusader & didn't bother. The show was looked down upon as nothing but an unserious kids cartoon with no substance. It should be noted this show came out during the Nolan era so most Batman fans were demanding a serious & gritty show akin to the tone of Batman Year One. This show itself may have had a great showcasing of Batman & the greater DC pantheon of heroes & villains but it simply wasn't what people wanted at the time.

I love Triumvirate so much. The phrase "switch dance partners" is the official term in my head for fighting the opponent usually fought by someone else. As you said, the trinity's relationship in this episode makes the "milkshakes so thick you have to eat them with a spoon" scene all the better. It made me kinda sad that we rarely actually got the trinity in BATB, but the hilarious JLI moments made up for it. Like the episode where Batman is late for a party and the Watchtower descends into anarchy.

    • @electricfeverx976

Can't forgot the part where the glue that even connects both parties, the JLI & JSA, was Batman. The moment Ra's captured him & both parties had to team up to save him was when they finally clicked. The simple act of doing heroics & helping each other is what both parties truly enjoy at their core.

This show was good because it was a show. It accepted and embraced its themes completely and did not take or add anything.
Itagaki, author of baki, said it best : "There is beauty in function."
Something created to do one thing above all will always appeal more than one meant to do many things, this show was a condensation of what superhero comics are all about, it carried nothing but that core message, it didn't bother itself with anything but that and that is so refreshing.
Media today is so loaded its like eating a complex meal. Sometimes that leads to amazing things and others not. But this show was simple and honest.

"Sometimes, the things that may or may not be true are the things that a man needs to believe in the _most._ That people are basically good. That honor, courage, and virtue mean everything. That power and money, money and power mean nothing. That good will always triumph over evil. And I want you to remember this: love... _true_ love never dies. You remember that, boy. It doesn't matter if it's true or not. A man should believe in those things because those are the things worth believing in."

I didnt get into this one when it came out. My older brother like it, both of us in our 20s at the time I think, but I was still madly in love with JLU and it was just so campy, and Batman being voiced by Oswald from the Drew Carey show? WHAT?!
but now that I'm older I appreciate shows like this and the adam west one, just like when I was a kid.

Brave and the Bold is such a great show that embraces the bright, positive Silver Age of comics with pride, and yet it remains so CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED!
I do think its interesting how one of the shows very few appearances of Superman in Batman: Brave and the Bold had Superman presented as a jerk and later dictator because he was being exposed to Red Kryptonite from Lois and Jimmy's gits they received secretly by Lex Luthor. Even though Im very much not a fan of whenever writers make Superman evil or a dictator, I will say this show's take on an evil Superman is actually kinda funny since they don't take the concept too seriously and actually have fun with it, making Superman a toxic troll which is hilarious😂
I also really love the Trinity episode where we see the DC Trinity of Superman, Batman, and Wonderwoman have their archenemies switch heroes, and it is really interesting and fun watching how Lex, Joker and Cheetah all take down each other's respective foes while we also how close they all are almost like siblings and wholesome friendship between the Trinity as they too find ways of taking down the other villains and even agree on what to put int the time capsule as its a symbol of matters to them as people, i.e. their friendship.

I want something like Brave and the Bold. I am tired of dark superheroes that decide that gore and deconstruction is what we need, we've had that deconstruction for far too damn long.
