I honestly wish we got more of this version of Amazo. We just get the weapon Amazo who just appears then gets beaten to barely ever return. This one has depth and development.
I've found that the fault of adult literature is that its filled with despair and mind-numbing scenery. It's a snapshot of the world, but never the ideals of it. I find myself drawn to old myths and legends because of this: that are both a snapshot to the culture and a presentation of the ideals and norms of it. Myths tell us about the ideal person, who we want to be and who we cannot be. Adult media... forgets this. "We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be." Morrison, Supergods
Sturgeon's Law. 90% of everything is shit, so if you cherry pick the best stuff and compare it to the whole of everything, there'll always be disparities.
I loved how this show adapted AMAZO and gave him such an amazing, compelling arc as this unbeatable android weapon with the social mentality of a child who grew past his programming and achieved enlightenment and near omnipotence on an unfathomable scale and yet still yearns to understand his purpose. This take on AMAZO is such a major upgrade from his original design and characterisation, where he had ginger hair, elf ears and green striped pants for some reason, but this take on him was almost completely faceless with a chrome body giving a cold expression and intimidating demeanour.
He kinda reminds me of GORT (which I'm fairly certain was intentional). What would happen if an unstoppable weapon decided to think for itself (questioning the purpose for their construction, especially (weapon, tool, etc.))? And where would you go?
As a philosophy grad student, I love JLU for its depth in understanding of the human experience. Many of the characters just happen to not technically be human, making for an even more interesting premise.
@@jmgonzales7701It’s what it could have been, but chose not to, due to the fanbase’s mixed agenda and wants. Shows should always invoke a new lessons or messages to us, otherwise they turn out to be meaningless moments wasted in our limited time.
"Amazo and the Meaning of Life," should be the title of a DC movie on the character independent of current canon and aiming to be one of the best MOVIES (not simply comic book movie) ever made. Great title man. :}
This was my favorite episode of Unlimited. Whenever I think back to the show, this episode is always the one that pops up in my head. Amazo was truly the problem you couldn't just punch away.
I think that's part of what makes him so fascinating. We see how he can rise to great occasions. He has it in him, he just actively CHOOSES selfishness. He's kind of like a sith lord in that sense. Spends years accumulating wisdom, knowledge and grand pursuits, and will absolutely throw the people closest to him under the bus without hesitation the instant he sees a path forward towards his goals or survival by doing so.
You always make bangers. While the show is simple in some ways, justice league made my childhood and taught me some of the most complex ideas I still reflect on as an adult. Thank you for still bringing this show to life.
I love this incarnation of Amazo, he was just so interesting ! I wished we got to see more of him after his second episode, seing his journey along side Dr Fate.
1:25 ok important note, since this scene with amazo, wally's personality in jl/u and how hermes is depicted in the show, it can only be concluded the speed force is also the horny force.
This amazo is beyond 10/10 and I've never seen another animated storyline, or any storyline really (hard to say since i dont really read comics) do much more with him then making him a mindless threat. and he is way beyond that in this one.
Good video and really cool that you included Justice League Infinity's continuation of Amazo's character arc. Speaking of, My Adventures With Superman currently has a tie-in comic that takes place between the first two seasons and also has a different take on Amazo. I won't spoil much, but it kind of informs Clark's character arc in season 2.
Honestly whenever life gets hard to live, my mind always wanders back to the episode where Amazo returns and Lex tells him his purpose. We have to see what’s coming next, and we’re uniquely made to face tomorrow
I really love these videos, on a deeply personal level. The core belief that informs all my principles and drives is that we must strive to be better than we currently are. These videos help me to be introspective and I really appreciate it.
It's interesting how whenever Amazo gets used in other post-JLU animation projects (Young Justice, the Injustice animated movie, etc.), they tend to use its comic-accurate design. This DCAU design of Amazo is unique to its own continuity. In a way, I find that strange because DCAU Amazo is a reimagining of the character that should have shaken up its status quo in future appearances in other continuities, similar to how a lot of elements of BTAS reinvented the status quo for future Batman-related continuities. At the very least the Tomorrowverse's take on Amazo does have the child-like innocence that DCAU Amazo has.
Would you also be interested in covering the animated shorts that DC has made that they've labelled "DC Showcase"? I really hope you do because I think they provide some of the best of DC's animation.
Basing this Amazo off of the Silver Surfer was the best thing DC had ever done with the character. It even plays well into the psuedo Defenders that he joins in JLU. Marvel changing the Silver Surfer into Shalla Baal instead of Norrin Radd is the dumbest thing they've ever done wtih the character. I hope James Gunn gives us the best version of Silver Surfer we'll ever see in live action with an adaptation of this version of Amazo.
Amazo was my favorite part of this entire series. He's incredible here. My DCUO character was even based on him (it fit the lore, too). This is also the most interesting version of the character for me.
Nice video. I'm kind of looking for my own way forward right now, so this video came out at just the right time. Also, if you're a little curious and a little annoyed while making your videos, you're doing it correctly. It shouldn't be too comfortable and easy.
the meaning of life is to find things and people you can care about, and make you happy nothing more nothing less, just some companionship so we don't die alone, and won't be alone to face whatever comes after death, even amazo needed a friend
OK, Im not a big fan of when comic shows/movies try to completely overhaul a character's design, but JL/JLU amzo redesign is honestly perfect. Firstly, the original amazo design is honestly confusing/doesn't reflect the character (a weird elfman wearing stripped pants is a machine that copies powers?), timm's design fits the idea perfect. a robot that starts off as a literal blank slate to have abilities imprinted on and who then becomes a literal golden god idol. secondly, the main problem with these design overhauls is that they always try to remove the comic book from the character, ending up making them look like generic battle armor or "whats current/hip" and end up making them look dated shortly after. Here, amazo feels more comic booky than his original design. clearly being based off 1950~60s scifi (a genre heavily tied to comics/comic history) instead of what was the current design asthetics of the 2000s making him feel timeless and have a fun retro-futuristic feel
So, what about when he leaves in the last episode? Does he not say that something is coming that may use him, or something? So, Grundy came back again, in that comic? Then Amazon took off, again?
Existence is a ying and yang of both life death love pain and understanding in other words all existence is god really. Its all a paradox. Help others in need love even the people who have trouble giving love to others
I honestly wish we got more of this version of Amazo.

Just read some Silver Surfer comics, they're essentially the same character.
Jadestone in the new absolute power line of DC comics has this arc more or less. Its wild stuff. Waller vs the Justice league.
How can this kid's show be more deep than most shows for adults?

That's how kid shows are bro
@jamesdroegemueller2152 it tries too hard. Meanwhile kids shows cuz they can't say it directly it makes the meaning really deep
Good writing

Yes. All of this yes. Amazo has always been one of my favorite characters in Justice League and this story is exactly why.
"You really think someone would do that? Just go on the internet and tell lies?"

I love to hear about Amazo, because i've heard basically nothing about him!!!
3:38, it’s too late, he absorbed Lex’s Bald
The baldness symbolises his search for power. Why do you think Lex wanted power so bad? It was to compensate.
This version of Amazo is my absolute favorite, despite his short screen time, he resonated with me especially his quest for purpose.
Lex Luthor, the most selfish man in the JLAU, is shown time and time again to be one of the wisest men in the show.
Wisdom and selfishness aren't conflicting concepts. Lex can and should be both.
That wisdom only extends to certain situations. His arrogance, ego and inability to compromise can and does foil him time and time again.

Never forget how lex tried to “cool guy walk away” from a god while standing in his palm
This hit at a point in my life where j definitely needed this. Thanks for uploading dude

Ngl Amazo's design feels very much like a Starman from Earthbound. Can't believe I didn't notice sooner.
If Gunn adapts Amazo, it should be inspired by this version
This is the best amazo.. A all powerful being that trying to find and define himself in life...He should've had his own series.
"Amazo and the Meaning of Life" sounds like a sick Bowie album.
wow first mystery song of the day i knew immediately
What is the song?
This Journey Of Mine Has Changed Me The Same Way As Amazo's Journey.
you DONT understand how much you have my crying to these videos

justice league animated amazo is so, so, so much better than the comic version.

DCAU's Amazo design is really sick.
Always know it’s gunna be a banger when IP posts

7:00 that part of Lex's speech put over his scene from the final episode... kino. cinema. *mwah*
Been away awhile. I've really missed these. Thank you.
I always remember when Amazon returned. That episode was amazing. Thank you for talking about them 🙏😃
I was waiting for a video on Amazo. Tabula Rasa is my favorite JL episode.
This was a great watch even though the video hasn’t been out long enough for me to finish
Never knew about Infinity. Seems worth a read
It really is. It's a sequel to the DCAU and treats it with a ton of respect.
Mystery song is good luck babe by Chappel Roan

You do know new Fantastic four movie is in alternate universe set in 60s: we could still get norrin radd in future
Apparently their FF universe is going to be destroyed by the end, so we're definitely getting multiple Surfers in the MCUs
WONDERBAT LETS GOOOOO
Love the Amazo episodes. Such an interesting concept and direction to take the character.
Somehow I missed the part where Amazo killed Red Tornado...
Amazo was my favorite part of this entire series. He's incredible here. My DCUO character was even based on him (it fit the lore, too). This is also the most interesting version of the character for me.
Great video tough to say this but I’m going through something similar I guess I’m just a soul 🤘 keep up the good work 🍀
This guy never misses I swear

Golden Amazo is the GOAT
Amazo: What is my purpose??
Geralt of Rivia: Hell if I know. Let's figure that out over some Gwent and ale.
Bro, how have i been watching these videos without realising I'm not subscribed💀.
the meaning of life is to find things and people you can care about, and make you happy nothing more nothing less, just some companionship so we don't die alone, and won't be alone to face whatever comes after death, even amazo needed a friend
MY GOAT AMAZO IS FINALLY TALKED ABOUT good video
btw if any chance in the future please talk about Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes
The Return made me cry a lil bit
Amazo is the hero we need but don't deserve
Finally!!!! (q up) I know Amazo's beloved, but I still think he's underrated. Symbolism in Dc is just 👌
I swear you talked about this before
Oh, the Main Man Cometh!!!
another banger, just finished rewatching JLU and Amazo is my silly little android(god???) blurbo.
Hold up, his writing is this fire? 🔥
Love this Amazo best of all the animated shit on him
WOOOOOH
Thanks for this. I like it's story
Next video: How Trauma rewire D-16's logic circuit.
I'm a little bitter about Amazo just disappearing from the show, this was my favorite iteration of the character.

Amazo is Aigis from persona 3
So, what about when he leaves in the last episode?
Does he not say that something is coming that may use him, or something?
So, Grundy came back again, in that comic? Then Amazon took off, again?
are we not going to make the connection how the android is the creature in frankenstein?

"Amazo and the meaning of life" was a better title
