As a man whose is well into his 60's, growing up in SF Bay Area listening to his music now for over 5 decades has been such an honor. As all you know as we live in this world as it sinks deeper & deeper into decadence we need constantly to reach some type of inner peace & tranquility. Music is 1 of the keys to help us accomplish this. I dare to say that there is no one who can help us get there on a regular continual basis like Carlos Santana. To me he is the most diverse rock & roll musician ever to live up to this time. Who of us when at the beach, mountains trying to destress has not listened to Samba Pa Ti, Song of the Wind, Europa & perhaps played his music over & over again. There is not many musicians who have lived that has provided for us music we Never Ever tire of.

This beautiful song is on "Caravanserai" Santana's fourth and in my opinion, their best, album. Incidentally Neal Schon is supposed to have done much of the playing in that recording of "Song of the Wind" . I find it very difficult to separate the two great guitars on the record, but I think I can hear both their voices distinctly here. Thanks for posting! And thanks to Carlos and Neal for so making this wonderful music.

That’s a good way of putting it, they both play wonderfully on Song of the Wind, and complement one another … interestingly Neil Schon as far as I have found anyhow, has not bettered what he accomplished here …

Unfortunately I came across an article titled those who sold their soul for fame and fortune and there were quit a number of past and present recording artist who did. Santana was one of them it said. These people such as the likes of Eric Clapton, Stevie nicks, Jim Morrison , John Lennon many of your rap stars who you'll see giving off the hand signals on stage symbolizing their commitment to Saten. Charles Manson, Madonna, lady Gagga, Bob Dylan oh yeah even Prince and the list goes on. Look it up. these stars will describe how while performing their conscience is literally taken over by an entity. While sleeping their impulse in vivid dreams will drive them to wake up from a sleep to write a song feverishly. Some packs with the Devel have taken place at a spot called the cross roads in Missouri. Youll find more about this on TH-cam.

I remember reading in Deborah Santana's book "Space Between The Stars" a few years ago that when Caravanserai was released in 1972 she had a hard time distinguishing between Carlos and Neal as they traded solos on Song Of The Wind. They were simply telepathic with each other! Can't wait for Santana IV to come out in 2016 - Neal and Gregg are back!!!

Like the comment by andyfaz999 this song is special to me as well .All my family and friends know that as I am being lowered to my final resting place or my ashes are being spread in a favorite place to become part of this world again, that all would have kind thoughts of me and my rollercoaster life. This song without any lyrics chronicles me and my life. I thank you Carlos n Neal for your inspiration and peace you have brought me with this song and I thank you very much..Tony

I saw Carlos Santana in 1966 in Hayward California I was 9 years old and Carlos was 18. Now think about it this is three years before he went to Woodstock! Eastbay Battle of the bands, Carlos Santana! I was 9 years old! Then my friend played with Neal schon from journey before Neal schon plays with Carlos! Then I met sal Valentino! From the beau brummels!

Super sonic soul, psychedelic warrior, brother and easily one of the most blessed people to ever give us this magic. All the premeditated shit that Divides all of us fades away when listening to music that is so absolutely at a level to where absolutely anyone and everyone is at the very least is someway somehow effected positively. Taylor swift way different than Santana, but still units. R Kelly ain't right 🦖🦖

This is one "moving" performance on the guitar. He gets a unique sound that is only "Santana" no matter what guitar he plays. Unreal. I've been learning from him since I was 14 when I first heard Santa III (Man with outstretched hand) when it came out on vinyl and played it every night to get the solos memorized. A Legend; Carlos Santana.

    Caravanserai is Santana's best LP.
It was the soundtrack to my first experience of marijuana, so I have a special affection for it, back in '86 :)

Caravanserai was one of the most important albums of the 20th century IMHO. Nothing else like it- before or since. Carlos was at his best. I saw them live in August of 1973 shortly before the album was released. Mindblowing. A life and career changing experience.

Carlos actually recorded the Santana 4 album with Neal Schon and most of what was left of the original Santana Band line-up in 2016 (David Brown passed away in 2000 and José "Chepito" Areas has suffered from bad health and also had a fall out with Carlos). They actually also play "Song of the Wind" during some of the concerts they did after the album, though it was not featured on the official DVD/Blue-ray from the concert.

Great song..great band. Its too bad he changed his tone on his guitar. He swore never to use pedals for his tone and distortion and then one day he was introduced to one and he no longered relied on his amplifier and guitar , instinct for tonality... he then started using pedals .! But alas he is still here and playing his music.

Isnt this song from Santana 4 (really cant spell it right now) lol I see Amigos art, there should be camels, dunes y a big sunset. Just kidding, got a good buzz right now. Go Carlos and the support for Med. Marijauna and the cause for legalization. Song of The Wind introduced Neal Schon to the world of Carlos Santana. After this song ( the original album cover) he hits it big with Journey. Dont you just love Rock and its many blessing of so many well establised artist. Que no?

On December 31st, 1973, Winterland, SF, there was a rumor going around in the crowd that Carlos and Neal were going to jam on "Song of the Wind" for an encore to close out the night. If there was some truth to this, I think a few rowdies in attendance killed whatever chance of this happening. Air horns being blasted and fights breaking out here and there after midnight. Carlos said toward the end of the set that they'd play longer if the crowd wanted them to, but the vibe wasn't right. Looking back now, I wonder if playing SOTW was going to happen anyway. This was Journey's debut show and it would make more sense that they were trying to establish their own identity instead of being ex-Santana players.

Behold the rising sun. To the East and beyond there is a thing, formless yet complete. Before heaven and earth it existed. Without sound, without substance, it stands alone and unchanging. It is all-pervading and unfailing. We do not know its name, but we call it Tao. .. Being one with nature, the sage is in accord with the Tao....

When this song was released on the "Caravanserai" album, the Guitars were mixed into "Mono"! so it was hard to distinguish who was doing what between Carlos Santana and Neal Schon. At 5:34 of that studio version, the stereo mix emerges as Carlos' Guitar comes in on the left speaker/left ear headphone while Neal Shon's, who, I believe, had come in at 4:36 and been soloing all along, Guitar splits off onto the right speaker/ear! To this day I don't understand why the Guitars weren't mixed into stereo ~ Carlos Santana on the left speaker and Neal Shon on the right speaker!!! Over the years, my late brother Anthony, who was a Guitarist, and I would discuss who was playing what bar in the solos!!! All I knew was that Neal would say in interviews that he played a lot on "Song Of The Wind".

Thanks for your info! One amazing album is the live recording (yes I know...) from Hawaii together with Buddy Miles. I have that on vinyl, played it like 10 000 times...
Neil Schon is in the band and he has some solos together with Carlos, for example on "Marbles & Lava (6;26 min) Neil was just 17 y o and I have read many comments about who is playing what. One guitar in center, the other one to the right.
From 1;55 is a great solo, do you know if that is Neal? I really like the way he is bending the notes, and it sounds a little bit softer then the typical Carlos guitar. Another solo from 4;35 but now in the left channel...

Neal Schon played many solos that everyone thinks is played by Carlos. The solos on "Taboo", "Everybondy's Everything", ... Listen to "Jungle Strut" or "Batuka" and you can hear them trading solos.
