You has way more guts and fortitude than I can ever imagine or hope to have , idk if I could ever do what you’re doing. Thank you for allowing us to live vicariously
At the top of the comment section there is an area that allows one to “like” (thumb up/upvote) or “dislike” (thumb down/ downvote) a video. “Liking” a video helps the content producer to reach a wider audience via the TH-cam algorithm. The number of upvotes and downvotes are clearly visible. That’s how.
Perhaps the sort of person who gets a weird kick from giving negative views to everyone's videos in the hope of stirring up agitation amongst honest viewers.
Probably it was just someone that stumbled upon the video by chance and anticipated something totally different. A rate of 5 % downvotes is quite normal for a video on TH-cam, so just 12 downvotes compared to 2400 upvotes is extremely good!
My wife is a school teacher and she is teaching The Phantom Tollbooth. She didn’t know getting stuck in the doldrums is a real thing, just an expression. Thanks for the video showing a real life example!
The Sailor... Courageous and intrepid, all sailors must be. The wind and waves and tempest sea. The dusk and dark, and restless watch, to greet the dawn and rising sun. Exhausted and cold, yet never so bold, to tend the sails, and steer the ship. To guide it to it’s sheltered haven, and now ashore, you’re misbehavin’... You’ve earned a tank of rum for sure, for all that you at sea endured! Sail onward Wind Hippie!
Holly, made my day, again. Did you forget a sunshower bag? Oops. Congrats on becoming a shellback. When I went SF to Tahiti in '95 we had some similar sailing and life experiences. The first shower was memorable. I remember peeling off foul weather gear and a few days later being really ripe. The shower was amazing. On the boat we had a watermaker and hot water which was a plus. Then, crossing the equator, the head backed up. The skipper said, Norm.... So, I did. Fortunately, I had prepared for just such an event and got the job done quickly. Four guys, 21 days. Amazing. If you get over to Moorea, Baie de Opaanohu, have an extra big smile on my behalf. Keep well.
We were stuck in the doldrums for 7 days, rolling ear to ear. Hot like hell and hard to sleep with the noise of the boom and lines slamming back and forth. Oh what joy when the catspaws of a small breeze would appear on the surface of the water and propel the boat along for a fraction of a mile before dying of again and leaving us stranded once again.
Sorry to hear. I escaped that state (EWindsor) and it's taxes years ago... Anyways I'm in Tampa and it's warm. The videos just make me jealous. I want to sail the seas of cheese. :)
Ahoy Shellback...wow you made it congratulations for your equatorial crossing and now welcome to being a Shellback... Love ya , stay safe and peace ✌️🕊️ out ... Sail on
I know this is from a while ago and you probably won't see this, but first of all, Holly you are absolutely killing it with your trip, your attitude, AND your production of these videos. Secondly, they make inexpensive solar shower systems for camping. Might be something to look into before the next passage. Typically is a black bladder situation that you can hang up. They heat up quite well and worst case scenario you could boil some seawater and mix it in to get it as warm as you'd like. A little shower head with switch is included. The whole thing, when empty, takes up about half of a shoe-box amount of space.
You should take on one crew member and charge for your vast knowledge of the seas.Grew up in the 70’s 80’s doing the same on the Great Lakes. Best experience I ever had. Only problem is the Lakes froze in the winter. Will be out to sea one day again. Come to Dunedin Florida. Warm welcomes for you here! Make some shirts for merchandise and put your style on it!
One of your best videos. Love the nitty gritty of small things, practical things - clothes & stove angled hanging below heeled, scraping hull under way, making long handle scraper (did you harness in!?), that the water is cold near equator, how you heat shower water (need a black rubbery Sunshower bag! do you get skin irritation from saltwater?). How about waterline close ups of wake & bow & rail when heeled? Rock on, Kid ( I can say "Kid" because I'm 72) Budster, Feb 22, 2021
It's nice to see a person so comfortable in their own skin. You learn a lot about yourself when you spend so much time alone at sea. Fair winds....or any wind and following seas.
I heard that it costs over $1000 to go to the Galapagos, that you have to apply to take a boat there and you can only stay there for X amount of days. Your idea is great though and I look forward to your next YT video
Good video. I enjoyed your comments on the price/barrier of visiting the Galápagos. Not really fair. I'll never go there or sailing but your vids are nice getaway in the middle of a Montana winter. If you were my kid I'd be proud of what your doing.
And old pharmacist took me sailing many times on a small sail boat teaching me how to tie knots , and basic stuff. Unfortunately he passed away. When i started watching your post it brought back memories of that time. Thanks brave lady.
Motoring thought you have sea water cooling? Port your return engine water as shower. Thought this was an old sailor thing to do. Next to no newer ones do it. Full seawater then fresh rinse if. You can afford it. You manage your boat wonderfully.
I'm thoroughly enjoying your sea escapades and the boat is looking good. Keep the boat forever it's your story. Have you not caught anymore fish? Good luck and have fun. Love the hat : )
You are Amazing! I had no idea how you could do all the things you can do until I saw the episode where you talked about living on a boat up til 11. Many people are living their dream through your travels and you get to relive your childhood. Love all of your different looks and your endless optimism and how you make life so fun! Was your mother like that ?
Good equator party👍😝 Did King Neptune get any offerings?? You’re a funny young lady. Such an amazing achievement. You should be proud 👏 Warren s/y Legend
Yay, my day is made, absolutely love you and your channel, just such fun, Holly you are one hell of a woman, and very beautiful, respect, fair winds and safe sailing. Please clip on sister, I know you know your stuff, if nothing else throw a knotted line off your stern. Maybe I'll see you out there some day on my little 30'5" Miura God bless
Here's a camping trick for taking a shower when its cold. Get a 1 or 2 litre bottle, put a small hole in the lid, pour 25% of the bottle into a kettle or pan and boil it, pour the water back into the bottle and use for a warm shower. Use the water sparingly lol
I’m jumping around on your videos... great stuff... but why no Bimini?! Heck I bought a cheap $100.00 one to sail the Florida Keys!😉 Live the dream!😀 Fair Winds and Seas to You!
well you already have so many comments so i'm sure i can't say anything you haven't heard already - so just to say hello - and hope to sail with you someday soon - my planned launch is June 2021 - have good one fair weather
I thought that people were kidding when they said TH-cam unsubbed them from channels. Yet today when searching for other sailing channels, I found your video, and thought I missed a notification. Nope. Instead, TH-cam did, indeed, unsubscribe me from your channel.🤬😠 Why do they do that??? Besides this, Im glad your still optimistically sailng, and living the dream😊💕
The plants lavender and mint are natural mosquitoes repellent plants and there are a few other plants that are natural mosquitoes repellent plants. If you grow 6-7 plants onboard you will not have mosquitoes issues onboard your boat

What kind of a person would downvote this woman?!?! Keep up the good work hippie!

You say that as if it's a deplorable thing to do. Everyone has an opinion they are entitled to, thankfully they are not all the same.
@ Rob S: I perceive your perception.

I love that book so much!!
Rockin’ out in the doldrums west of the Galápagos Islands........free the mind, cleanse the soul and sail on. Love it!

Yo Holly, happy sailing...love to see more fishing stuff; love that!
Two plastic buckets! lucky they are colour coded so you can not get them mixed up, especially when one of them is used for the dishes.
