As a former fundamentalist, I can tell you that I think you're being too kind to Dread Roberts by giving him the benefit of a doubt on his intentions. In this video you express that Roberts is off his rocker because he "means well but we're nowhere close to needing to draw a line". The issue is, and again, this is from my former fundamentalist point of view, but Roberts and Melanie Mac and John F. Trent *don't* mean well. They're not off their rocker - they know precisely that what they're saying and advocating for doesn't make sense, but they don't care. Heres my take. I dont care if a game is soft core corn or degenerate. Games are entertainment and people get to decide if they want that stuff or not it and the final say should be decided by the devs. Plus ive seen a lot of people label stuff as degenerate, like mad father, berserk and even baldur gates and guess what those types of media are widely loved. I just want creators to have the ability to create what they want to. The problem is dei doesnt want that and trys to stifle that and these purtians are just the same side of that coin.
Baldurs Gate 3 is far more "degenerate" than any game produced from Korea or Japan. Those people would rightly call out the woke elements in BG3 but never called it a "porn game" and still say they enjoyed the game.

@@CyrusIsnt This is normal, player counts are always high at release and then drop quickly. As long as they stay consistent, and they do for both games, everything is fine. The reason Helldivers 2 is currently at 100k is because of the new Omens of Tyranny patch, as you no doubt know. Before that it only had 30k players. 30k are also just 6%.
Funny thing is, the character in the clip, Luna, is a musician and fights the creatures in the game as a support that plays music that buff here allies. She does little dances if your standing still, but you hardly have any reason to stand still in The First Descendant.

There is an entire story arc about her and sounds during the main story. She is the only char dancing as idle animations. The other women or men just look back at the camera. xD

fyi its not a dancing minigame shes the music powers archetype and as with most chars of that archetype she dances while you play as her in this case she shakes her hips and depending on which power you use she dances in a difrent way thats all there is to it
So in short there are people who: - When games they don't like fail, they say it's free market and the gamers have chosen. - When games they don't like succeed, they claim the gamers are bad. To those who didn't play First Descendant: Luna the character in that Clip is a support and the "dancing minigame" is actualy part of her gameplay and hitting correctly increases effects of her skills, thought that would be a nice context I didn't see people provide much Coustume she is wearing is recolored version of Twisted Worship outfit wich is a "nun" cosplay, more precisely SP variant wich removes 2 flap like thingy's ... (not shure how it's called) on the back, SP was added for free for those who had the outfit, on top of that the outfit originaly applied only to Single character you purchased it for, with Season 2 they made it so that you buy once and all female descendants get access to it and if you bought it more then once you get a refund for additional purchases

3:15 That's what ShiftUp advertised. They didn't go into anything about the gameplay until the demo, and they gaslit everyone for months and still censored the game on day 1. They had gamer's number and they rode them like a bicycle all the way to taking their company public. Everyone liked the game, so no one said jack about their gaslighting. However, that's more than a red flag to realize how much a company would use the very thing we're championing and exploit it for their own gain. Especially from companies with horrid track records for shutting dozens of games like NEXON, First Descendant's publisher. We know the track records of Western gaming companies in the extreme, but seem to have amnesia about the horseshit eastern companies have done to make the gaming landscape into a Live Service/gachapon/cash shop hell hole just because they haven't gone woke.
While i was annoyed with melony mac, hers wasnt the worst response, i found dread roberts response to be pretty foul and seemingly hostile, im sure he got a ton of crap but his statements aggrivated me quite a bit. Another creator who went out of their way to be nasty was aristocratic utensil, completely agreeing with dread Robert's and seemingly admitting that he loves censorship if only to stick it to the selfish gamers who want sexy women which him and others label some kind of corn even though its pretty tame overall compared to what games used to have in the golden age.
Another thing that is an issue is its always blamed on the male gaze. for all the inclusivity of one side and love thy neighbour of another, they seem to completely ignore the fact that lesbians and bisexual woman exist. I'm a lesbian. While I may not like all fanservice-y content, I'm pretty sure it's the same for straight guys. People have different tastes. The First Descendant doesn't bother me at all. Some of the outfits look hot, others not so much. But you could say that about pretty much any game with scantily-clad women (or men, rare as that may be). For example, I find Isabela's outfit in Veilguard utterly ridiculous, and it's not because she's barely wearing anything. It's the composition of colors and those hideous pauldrons, not to mention that ugly-ass hat.
@docmacabre thank you for sharing your perspective. I do agree that if the outfits dont match the general aesthetic or just dont look clean, it can be off-putting. Thing with first descendants is it was basically marketed as being pretty 'fanservicey' from the get go so it seems like people are being deliberately ignorant. Like going into a vegan only store and complaining there's no meat options (or vice versa). Theres also the fact that despite the fanservice being there, people refuse to look past and toward the actual systems of the game itself, if that makes sense. Haven't really looked at veil guard character designs cause veil guard irritates me as a dragon age fan. If an outfit is flat out indecent i can kinda understand people being put off. The fact that fanservice exist shouldn't really be a breaking point for anyone in my personal opinion. I dont play TFD often because of the Company's monetising history, but when i do play it with friends i have a good enough time (my favourite skin is the bunny evolution skin that turns her into a cyborg where you can see her robo-spine and inner mechanisms, wanna get that one one day) Sorry for the wall of text . I appreciate hearing a perspective i usually dont hear from and am glad there's definitely some middle ground to agree on .

Some stupid part of me still hopes that they'll declare Veilguard non-canon (not gonna happen, but a girl can dream...). But yeah, women in general, regardless of orientation, enjoy fanservice as much as the next guy. Two famous straight examples: Henry Cavill as the Witcher, naked and wet, in a bathtub, or Astarion's whole romance in BG3. There's also a sizeable junk of women who enjoyed the Iron Bull's romance in Inquisition. And let's not forget all the corn fic (straight or otherwise) on sites such as AO3, which is primarily written by women. It's just that this very vocal, extremely annoying minority has somehow managed to convince the world that fanservice is inherently bad because it's something men enjoy, too.

Some of the best and worst writing I've experienced is in corn games. No joke. Because they are (generally) made by one person or a microscopic team of like 2-3, vision and story (if there is one) is generally pretty focused. It is either going to suck, or be brilliant. As for fan service in other types of games, it's harmless. I feel like the people who say that it hurts people are hiding something that hurt them; usually behaviors that they are ashamed of or that caused them harm in the past. Meaning, don't take it personally that Melonie Mac and Dreadroberts are "warning" people about this stuff. Just take the useful warnings as you can, and ignore the outrage when they notice you aren't as "scared straight" as they desire you to be (which is going to be inevitable.) They mean well, but they aren't perfect and they aren't 100% correct in their own beliefs.

I play first descendant, and yes there are its fair share of degenerates. However this community keeps its arousal in check, and mostly jokes about the attractivesness of the characters (rather than hyper focusng). I'd also like to add there is a fair amount of female players, I know from the gamertags, that they say so in the comment section, and the fact that as that tweet showed, you can play dress up with your characters. But this game is truly great they are taking all of the right steps and giving the fans what they want. We (the community) ask for something and the developers give it to us, they're fair, generous even. Sometimes they give us stuff that we didnt even think of. It's a huge difference between the developers of western live services.
I don't like horror games, but I'm not advocating for their erasure. I don't like excessive gore, but I'm not advocating for it to not exist or shame anyone for liking that stuff. And I am a fan of traditional turn based jrpgs… But some people don't like it. but we should be advocating for more choice and not less. Grew up in a Christian household and while im not religious i can respect those who are. Religion can unify people, give them hope and theres a lot of good values like family and compassion. I dont like the censorship angle of it all though in the name of bettering society or think of the children when we have rating entities. I think artistic expression is important and shouldnt be bound by ideologies. If something isnt for you find something that is. Vote with your wallet. Choice is a good thing.
As a TFD player, I will say there is a good amount of skins that are very revealing, especially some of the base Ultimate Descendants skins, but as stated, they can be changed to whatever you want to where and can even paint them for style. This is not a goner game, but has some very good looking characters which is rare nowadays
Man, my 2 favourite skins are the prison stripe onesie and the gentleman suit pants and shirt. Both show no skin and actually cover up more than the developers' original skins.

To be fair, Dreadroberts was answering the question posed in the original post, about whether or not that's what "Gamers want." He might be right that that isn't what all gamers want, and that there is a contingent of the gaming audience that might seek out provocative material. We also don't want feminine beauty purposely removed and kept out, especially for the sake of the multiletter ideology, but I do agree that there is an extreme on the other end of the hypothetical pendulum swing (but I'm NOT saying that the industry is actually heading that way, personally, since the industry is definitely still infested with ideologues). I also agree with you, that the bulk of the games you discussed aren't focused on skimpy outfits, and that, while Dreadroberts's statements are generally agreeable in isolation, the original post might not necessarily warrant that level of intensity. Honestly, I think people are taking too much of this to heart. I think Dreadroberts took the original post too seriously, and I think a lot of the responses to his response are taking his response too seriously. It's all just getting needlessly out of hand. The skimpier options/mods for most games remain entirely optional, and people are being way too quick to antagonize each other without parsing the more moderate context of the initial responses. While I agree with some of the points made in the vid I disagree with the charitability given to Roberts and Melonie. In both of their reactions they called the game clip porn and immoral (seen in Roberts "So many claim to care about morals..." part of his comment especially). I dont have an issue with them holding those opinions but they went a step too far in saying we as a group need to draw a line and be against the content they deem immoral. Its identical to how religious fundies spoke during the satanic panic with the implication that anyone against them isnt serious. Also outside of this Melonie has made comments before about being ok with certain types of censorship. Like when she was ok with the Tomb Raider remasters censoring artwork of a naked lady on Pierres jacket, saying it needed to be censored and was too gratuitous.

What's really annoying to see is how positive so many are being about it and how many excuses are being made for the reasoning behind such trash decisions. It's like people never learn. The game then releases and is unsurprisingly trash or mediocre at best. At that point it's too late and the damage is done as they all bought the slop, sales are great, and we therefor get more slop... It's infuriating to witness. Consoomers destroy everything.
She's okay in half the shots and awful in half the others. Kinda reminds me of Ola Rudnicka, Polish model. The face is okay, considering it's now realistic artstyle, but it's something about the engine that made Senua uncanny too. That being said, it's the writing of the upcoming game I dread.

Geralt didn't look "right" in their cinematics either, I'll have to watch these announcements again for a video, I'll pay more attention then but at first glance I didn't see any weird DEI chin nonsense. I think part of the problem is just being disingenuous (idk if that's the right word). It literally takes 2 sec for Melonie to just search up some gameplay on youtube of FD and see it's not a corn game. but she doesn't, instead it feels she's purposely drama farming. I think Jon del Arroz is far more puritan though, he's actually advocating for censoring games (calling Sony based for not allowing the sale of R18 doujins, related to Crunchyroll IIRC). On the flip side, as you said, every SB post is usually about the outfits, photo mode in certain poses that are purposely innuendo etc. Nobody's talking about the gameplay, the epic OST, the lore etc.

@@CyrusIsnt This is normal, player counts are always high at release and then drop quickly. As long as they stay consistent, and they do for both games, everything is fine. The reason Helldivers 2 is currently at 100k is because of the new Omens of Tyranny patch, as you no doubt know. Before that it only had 30k players. 30k are also just 6%.

Coustume she is wearing is recolored version of Twisted Worship outfit wich is a "nun" cosplay, more precisely SP variant wich removes 2 flap like thingy's ... (not shure how it's called) on the back, SP was added for free for those who had the outfit, on top of that the outfit originaly applied only to Single character you purchased it for, with Season 2 they made it so that you buy once and all female descendants get access to it and if you bought it more then once you get a refund for additional purchases

While i was annoyed with melony mac, hers wasnt the worst response, i found dread roberts response to be pretty foul and seemingly hostile, im sure he got a ton of crap but his statements aggrivated me quite a bit. Another creator who went out of their way to be nasty was aristocratic utensil, completely agreeing with dread Robert's and seemingly admitting that he loves censorship if only to stick it to the selfish gamers who want sexy women which him and others label some kind of corn even though its pretty tame overall compared to what games used to have in the golden age.
Another thing that is an issue is its always blamed on the male gaze. for all the inclusivity of one side and love thy neighbour of another, they seem to completely ignore the fact that lesbians and bisexual woman exist. Im a guy but are there any lesbians or bisexual women in the comments that can give your perspective on it? Is it fine with you, or does it bug you etc?
I'm a lesbian. While I may not like all fanservice-y content, I'm pretty sure it's the same for straight guys. People have different tastes. The First Descendant doesn't bother me at all. Some of the outfits look hot, others not so much. But you could say that about pretty much any game with scantily-clad women (or men, rare as that may be).
For example, I find Isabela's outfit in Veilguard utterly ridiculous, and it's not because she's barely wearing anything. It's the composition of colors and those hideous pauldrons, not to mention that ugly-ass hat.

Thing with first descendants is it was basically marketed as being pretty 'fanservicey' from the get go so it seems like people are being deliberately ignorant. Like going into a vegan only store and complaining there's no meat options (or vice versa). Theres also the fact that despite the fanservice being there, people refuse to look past and toward the actual systems of the game itself, if that makes sense. Haven't really looked at veil guard character designs cause veil guard irritates me as a dragon age fan. If an outfit is flat out indecent i can kinda understand people being put off. The fact that fanservice exist shouldn't really be a breaking point for anyone in my personal opinion. I dont play TFD often because of the Company's monetising history, but when i do play it with friends i have a good enough time (my favourite skin is the bunny evolution skin that turns her into a cyborg where you can see her robo-spine and inner mechanisms, wanna get that one one day)

But yeah, women in general, regardless of orientation, enjoy fanservice as much as the next guy. Two famous straight examples: Henry Cavill as the Witcher, naked and wet, in a bathtub, or Astarion's whole romance in BG3. There's also a sizeable junk of women who enjoyed the Iron Bull's romance in Inquisition. And let's not forget all the corn fic (straight or otherwise) on sites such as AO3, which is primarily written by women.

Some of the best and worst writing I've experienced is in corn games. No joke. Because they are (generally) made by one person or a microscopic team of like 2-3, vision and story (if there is one) is generally pretty focused. It is either going to suck, or be brilliant.
As for fan service in other types of games, it's harmless. I feel like the people who say that it hurts people are hiding something that hurt them; usually behaviors that they are ashamed of or that caused them harm in the past. Meaning, don't take it personally that Melonie Mac and Dreadroberts are "warning" people about this stuff. Just take the useful warnings as you can, and ignore the outrage when they notice you aren't as "scared straight" as they desire you to be (which is going to be inevitable.) They mean well, but they aren't perfect and they aren't 100% correct in their own beliefs.

@TheDarkEnigma issues like this have been going on for years since I was a teen, and nothing ever happened. There also simply isn't enough content being released for it to become an issue.

I play first descendant, and yes there are its fair share of degenerates.
However this community keeps its arousal in check, and mostly jokes about the attractivesness of the characters (rather than hyper focusng). I'd also like to add there is a fair amount of female players, I know from the gamertags, that they say so in the comment section, and the fact that as that tweet showed, you can play dress up with your characters.
But this game is truly great they are taking all of the right steps and giving the fans what they want.
We (the community) ask for something and the developers give it to us, they're fair, generous even. Sometimes they give us stuff that we didnt even think of.
It's a huge difference between the developers of western live services.
I don't like horror games, but I'm not advocating for their erasure. I don't like excessive gore, but I'm not advocating for it to not exist or shame anyone for liking that stuff. And I am a fan of traditional turn based jrpgs… But some people don't like it. but we should be advocating for more choice and not less. I just can't stand hypocrisy and the pearl clutching

I don't care if my hobby is respected or considered "art". I want to play fun games with attractive characters. The only person who should be deciding what goes in a game is the devs themselves. You can either buy it or ignore it.
These types of people create labels to make other people feel bad about themselves.
TFD just has attractive charcters in tight outfits. There's no sex scenes or even romance options.

Grew up in a Christian household and while im not religious i can respect those who are. Religion can unify people, give them hope and theres a lot of good values like family and compassion. I dont like the censorship angle of it all though in the name of bettering society or think of the children when we have rating entities. I think artistic expression is important and shouldnt be bound by ideologies. If something isnt for you find something that is. Vote with your wallet. Choice is a good thing.
As a TFD player, I will say there is a good amount of skins that are very revealing, especially some of the base Ultimate Descendants skins, but as stated, they can be changed to whatever you want to where and can even paint them for style. This is not a goner game, but has some very good looking characters which is rare nowadays
Man, my 2 favourite skins are the prison stripe onesie and the gentleman suit pants and shirt. Both show no skin and actually cover up more than the developers' original skins.

My money is either on brand loyalty or simply the fact that SW Outlaws is talked about more online than it is actually played. Dealing with PTSD must be incredibly challenging, and I'm willing to bet it's more frustrating for you when there aren't many games that feel worth your time. To be fair, Dreadroberts was answering the question posed in the original post, about whether or not that's what "Gamers want." He might be right that that isn't what all gamers want, and that there is a contingent of the gaming audience that might seek out provocative material. We also don't want feminine beauty purposely removed and kept out, especially for the sake of the multiletter ideology, but I do agree that there is an extreme on the other end of the hypothetical pendulum swing (but I'm NOT saying that the industry is actually heading that way, personally, since the industry is definitely still infested with ideologues). I also agree with you, that the bulk of the games you discussed aren't focused on skimpy outfits, and that, while Dreadroberts's statements are generally agreeable in isolation, the original post might not necessarily warrant that level of intensity.
Honestly, I think people are taking too much of this to heart. I think Dreadroberts took the original post too seriously, and I think a lot of the responses to his response are taking his response too seriously. It's all just getting needlessly out of hand. The skimpier options/mods for most games remain entirely optional, and people are being way too quick to antagonize each other without parsing the more moderate context of the initial responses. Social media at it again.

While I agree with some of the points made in the vid I disagree with the charitability given to Roberts and Melonie.
In both of their reactions they called the game clip porn and immoral (seen in Roberts "So many claim to care about morals..." part of his comment especially).
I dont have an issue with them holding those opinions but they went a step too far in saying we as a group need to draw a line and be against the content they deem immoral.
Its identical to how religious fundies spoke during the satanic panic with the implication that anyone against them isnt serious.
Also outside of this Melonie has made comments before about being ok with certain types of censorship. Like when she was ok with the Tomb Raider remasters censoring artwork of a naked lady on Pierres jacket, saying it needed to be censored and was too gratuitous.

I love how something that was so normal back in the days has now become horrible and people get shamed because of it. Men have always looked at sexy hot female characters, models and so on. What's really annoying to see is how positive so many are being about it and how many excuses are being made for the reasoning behind such trash decisions. It's like people never learn. Each franchise that has been destroyed has been the same story; people see the obvious warning signs, willingly ignore them, make excuses for every red flag, cope and praise the glory of whatever studio is behind whatever franchise. The game then releases and is unsurprisingly trash or mediocre at best. The fanboys keep singing it's praises while coping hard until slowly over time, one by one, they come to realize and admit that the game is trash. At that point it's too late and the damage is done as they all bought the slop, sales are great, and we therefor get more slop...

She's okay in half the shots and awful in half the others. Kinda reminds me of Ola Rudnicka, Polish model. The face is okay, considering it's now realistic artstyle, but it's something about the engine that made Senua uncanny too. That being said, it's the writing of the upcoming game I dread.
That's where I'm at too. Geralt didn't look "right" in their cinematics either, I'll have to watch these announcements again for a video, I'll pay more attention then but at first glance I didn't see any weird DEI chin nonsense.

I think part of the problem is just being disingenuous (idk if that's the right word). It literally takes 2 sec for Melonie to just search up some gameplay on youtube of FD and see it's not a corn game. but she doesn't, instead it feels she's purposely drama farming. I think Jon del Arroz is far more puritan though, he's actually advocating for censoring games (calling Sony based for not allowing the sale of R18 doujins, related to Crunchyroll IIRC). On the flip side, as you said, every SB post is usually about the outfits, photo mode in certain poses that are purposely innuendo etc. Nobody's talking about the gameplay, the epic OST, the lore etc.
