Robbie, those QA1 coilovers on the front aren’t installed correctly. They should be put inside the lower control arm not under it. I think QA1’s instructions used to say to do it the way you’ve got it done but I’m assuming someone had a failure and their instructions now say in bold and underlined lettering to install them on the inside of the LCA. That’s a lot of pressure from the coilover being held on by just bolts. Also, swapping the stock 1500 calipers to a 2500 caliper is a nice upgrade on these trucks if you have the 1.25” rotors which I know you do because the React spindles will only work with the 1.25” rotors. Other than that, the truck looks freaking awesome and I’m very excited to see where you take it. Looking forward to seeing you guys at Battle in Bama this year, it should be a damn good time!
That front shock bottom should be setting on top of the control arm when you go to a higher rate spring or harder driving. Otherwise the bolts are loaded in tension. you can rip the bolts through the control arm if anything moves around.
My grandpaws sister had a 88 identical to this one that she left her grandson after she passed. She literally only drove it a half mile twice a week to church and back. Truck literally only had a little over 2500 miles on it when she passed away. Truck is immaculate man. Hes considering LT swapping it but i told him with that low of miles and the shape its in he would be silly to change anything on it.

Bro I literally asked you for the specs of this truck on a Facebook group! That's awesome to see that you have a TH-cam channel too! You got a sub from me!
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS I’ve been wanting build an OBS for sometime now. Grew up with my dad having a 1977. What truck would you recommend starting off with? This would be a do it myself build in the garage. I can find a lot of long beds. Short beds are tough. Seems like most are over priced. Don’t have a lot of experience other than TH-cam for shorting a long bed. Shortening this down to one question, what year/s square body would you recommend for first timer to lower rebuild etc? I do have experience rebuilding other cars. Just haven’t done a lot body work. Thanks for your show man. Love this current series you’re doing now. That’s kinda the direction I’d like to go with mine.
I found that my front brake rotors and pads would only last about 20K miles on my 1994 Silverado before they were completely shot.. Heavy(ish) truck with TINY little factory rotors and pads... I made my own custom big brake set up... Brembo 4 piston calipers off a 2010 Camaro SS, and Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT rotors that are 14.9" (same bolt pattern as the OBS trucks!).. I did not have to change master cylinder, or proportioning valve.. To say the braking is AWESOME now is an understatement. I'm also running the Mcgaughys drop spindles which I HATE.. They increased my track width to the point that the outside edge of my tire makes contact with the fender lip under heavy compression. I DO NOT recommend these spindles.. They SUCK and I'm about to have to change them to a different brand of drop spindle that does not increase the track width. The edges of my front tires look like they have been cut with a Ginsu knife. I'm sure adding the thickness of the rotors pushed them out about 3/16" MORE on each side.. But it is what it is. Love the video. I'm also in the process of building my own custom 3 link set up like LT Tolman did on his Second Gen Cyclone S10...
Is there a reason that you didn’t paint the frame where the notch is? I’m questioning rust under the bracket. Also, is it not necessary to weld the notch in once it is located properly?
looks nice, always wanted OBS, damn hard to find shortbad here in Europe. one quick question, is ot OK that frames bends when you lower the truck ( min36 of the video), if you look on the gap between cab and bad it narrow to upside when car hits jacks/ground.
I'll check it out, but I think that's just nature of bed coming off of lift - or it could've been that rear tires were pushing bed forward since it rests right on the inner fender lips in rear.
Did you have to go with the 1.25” heavy duty front rotors and calipers? I have a 88obs as well (long bed) and I’m looking to do the same thing. I’ve got a 6L LS block and heads at the machine shop now.
