Well this video didn't age well. It's now coming up to a year since official support for Windows 7 ended and I haven't had a single issue that's not related to the modern internet in general that would happen on any OS. Lots of unnecessary scaremongering across TH-cam and the media in general for no reason other than people trying to get you to use the latest stuff all the time. From a technician standpoint, yes, it's almost mandatory to recommended people upgrade to Windows 10... except barely any of these TH-camrs are experts and it's all a matter of opinion and lack of knowledge.
On 02/28/2019 I used the link that ThioJoe gave in this video for the Free upgrade to Windows 10 (had Windows 8.1) and it worked like a charm, very easy to follow. Thank you so very much.
Yes. And if you want to keep the internet safe and Windows 7 or XP, just use an adblock. PS: Windows 10 isn't that great either in some points. My favourite Windows besides XP is 8.

*Correction:* At 5:20 you said 10% of people on Windows 7 went to Windows 10. Although, it's a bit higher/lower (idk) because that's 10% of the people on the internet have made a transition from Windows 7 in a year. These won't all be to Windows 10 though, some users might have transitioned into linux and you also have to account for those who stopped/started using the internet.
so actually, Windows 7 is going to get security updates (kind of). You will only get patches if a massive exploit was discovered; Microsoft is very focused on keeping software secure
@@snbeast9545 two things: 1) windows Linux mint is a joke, should just be Linux mint; 2) it's a type of Linux operating system. It's pretty cool look it up.
I wouldn't risk it. I tried Windows 10 like this in its early days and after I saw the EULA crap and the big text to use an online account and small text to use offline account, I've finished the testing and never tried Windows 10 again, in virtual machine or else. There were news in the past about the virtual machine software bugs that could allow the guest OS to break the host OS.
So if I have got this right, you are saying that Windows 7 will become a security nightmare pretty soon and that upgrading to Windows 10 is the best option. I kind of lost count the amount of times you stated how Windows 7 will become a danger and it came across like a Microsoft commercial. So Windows 10 is a safer option. an OS that spies on "everything" you do and reports it back to Microsoft HQ to be stored God knows where or for how long, an OS that at default will connect to "strangers" computers to download updates and then help itself to your broadband connection uploading them to more strange computers, an OS that has too many to list insecure default settings, an OS that gives you less control than ever including auto updates that cripple performance and require crazy amounts of storage yet still don't work properly, an OS that you spend hours configuring for maximum performance then along comes a major update and all your hard work is wiped out, an OS that requires a nuclear power station for any kind of decent performance, an OS that will install a broken driver time after time despite it hosing your system, an OS that has the ultimate worst network performance and drops wi-fi every single day, an OS that has many broken features and adds more broken features twice a year that only the tech minded can remove, an OS that requires a script to gut it from built in bloatware to preserve any kind of sanity, an OS that shuts down your PC yet your hardware is still running at full tilt, an OS that takes twice as long to boot than 7 and four times as long for your desktop to be ready to receive any instructions, an OS that bongs, bings and beeps and will nag you to fucking death all day long, an OS with the most useless UI ever designed that feels like someone threw a bomb into the Control Panel and now the settings are wherever you find them and they all have the same flat, dead cartoon look about them with that useless spinning circle that looks like your PC has frozen.........You know I could go on all day but I just cannot possibly imagine why anyone would want to keep running 7, nope cannot imagine at all,,,did we not hear all this shit when XP was retired!!!!
Dark Floof - How? With the exception of the start button and having apps come to desktop via from taskbar, it still had a lot of problems from 8. The dumb, ugly UI was one of them.
This is exaggerated. There are still tens of thousands of *XP* users -- with an Internet connection -- and most of them are fine. Of course 10 is safer, but there is lots of data collection within it (I'm guessing this is partly why it's free), it doesn't run well on lower-end hardware (under 8GB RAM, for instance), it _feels_ much slower than older versions, and I find it harder to use than even XP sometimes. I hope Windows 11 will make people upgrade by being good, thus giving an incentive to, rather than give full screen pop-ups every few minutes...
I never updated security updates along time ago. My trafic is encrypted, the file explorer.exe file is sandboxed. Plus when I updated the security updates, it acting like it had malware. I use antivirus, spywere, removed bad registry keys, coded entire ms dos system on windows 7. And I never expreince once some hacker hack into. Plus I spoof my mac adress and etc...the list goes long. If you're normal, you sould upgrade but if you are like me, u dont need security update. And I tried windows 10, it messed up all my installs, included my connection to NAS. I had to go back to windows 7

My late 2009 iMac claims that it is not compatible with Windows 10. I tried the upgrade, and everything worked, but it would not read my external hard drive. Bummer. I had to go back to Windows 7.
@Spllitzty. well my files well be on the "D" drive, I never keep my personal files on the same drive as the OS. It'll also give me a backup if 10 decides to trip over it's own feet.
@Spllitz yeah we've had to repair 10 on my old man's win 10 laptop a number of times. That and the built in spyware has completely turned me off of 10. Only problem is soon enough won't have a choice.
There are very few computers that will run Windows 7 that will not run Windows 10. These computers would have an older CPU, Pentium III or early Pentium 4 (before Prescott) and lacks the NX-bit instructions. Any system running a Pentium III, Pentium M, or a Willamette or Northwood Pentium 4 will have no upgrade path, unless the owner of the PC wants Linux. But nowadays, most systems run Prescott Pentium 4 CPUs or higher, so they can upgrade to Windows 8.x or Windows 10. The only thing is that many of these systems will run Windows 10 poorly. In fact, I still use Windows 7 due to poor performance of Windows 10v1803 on my i7-7700k system.

They were so freaked out that they couldn't read the message that said you can revert that appeared on the screen that appeared after the forced update. There was a button. Still, it was a nasty trick and killed off a lot of weak machines. Kind of like the Windows 10s machines that will be out to compete with Chrome books. They will allow you a one time "upgrade" to a full version but there won't be enough storage space to handle the updates, in effect bricking the installation. No reversion to the lite version allowed. Have a little laptop for Christmas kid, it'll be dead by Easter.

As of today windows 7 is no longer safe to use.. it is now EOL

On 02/28/2019 I used the link that ThioJoe gave in this video for the Free upgrade to Windows 10 (had Windows 8.1) and it worked like a charm, very easy to follow. Thank you so very much.
what do you consider safe? is the answer dependent on what stranger has access to your personal information?
i would love to use PS4 Remote Play on my pc but it´s not worth the confusing interface of windows 10
Yes. And if you want to keep the internet safe and Windows 7 or XP, just use an adblock. PS: Windows 10 isn't that great either in some points. My favourite Windows besides XP is 8.
Hey Thio, I have Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Movie Maker right now with my windows 7 home Premium. If I upgrade to Windows 10 will I lose both of these features since Microsoft does not support them anymore? I know I can get Movie Maker back on Windows 10, I've done it but I'm not having any luck re-installing Windows Live Mail on my Desktop which has Windows 10. Thanks Joe
*Correction:*
At 5:20 you said 10% of people on Windows 7 went to Windows 10. Although, it's a bit higher/lower (idk) because that's 10% of the people on the internet have made a transition from Windows 7 in a year. These won't all be to Windows 10 though, some users might have transitioned into linux and you also have to account for those who stopped/started using the internet.
Linux Mint is better then Windows 10.
depending for what task

the words "upgrade" and "windows 10" cant be used in a sentence like that thio
Critical is for you to switch to Linux. Or BSD.
so actually, Windows 7 is going to get security updates (kind of). You will only get patches if a massive exploit was discovered; Microsoft is very focused on keeping software secure
Yeah but that’s only if it’s something major
Windows Linux Mint does not have any inbuilt spyware in it, even better

@@snbeast9545 oh well, I misunderstood. I don't know then really. I thought it was a joke saying "windows Linux mint" but idk.
Just wondering would it be safe to use a windows 10 virtual machine on a Windows 7 computer?
I wouldn't risk it. I tried Windows 10 like this in its early days and after I saw the EULA crap and the big text to use an online account and small text to use offline account, I've finished the testing and never tried Windows 10 again, in virtual machine or else.
There were news in the past about the virtual machine software bugs that could allow the guest OS to break the host OS.
Daniel ok thanks for the advice!
But...
I love using 8.1, hate the 10 (yup not lying). Still worth to use in 2019, forgetting it sucks for most people?
8.1 was a dumb OS
Austin Kyle it’s still better than 8 though.
Guess I'm switching to Linux.
Check out peppermint its great
Xubuntu for the win
I would strongly consider switching to Linux if programs like Photoshop were compatible.

Man, I have a laptop I use for school which doesn’t have enough memory to have windows 10. Time for an upgrade!
I use only the BIOS. Totaly satisfied!
I use ms dos 6.22
too much trash apps in windows 10, windows 7 is simple and user friendly.
Thanks, ThioJoe! I just updated my old laptop with Windows 7 to Windows 10 for free! I wasn't going to bother updating because I had thought that the free update period had expired. Now, I'm going to TRY to do the same with one of my computers that still using Windows 8.1. Hopefully, I'll have the same successful results! Thanks again for the good info!

You don’t need to upgrade. If you have a plugged in Ethernet cable, unplug it and you’re fine.

The reason why they make them uncompatible is to force you to upgrade to their new system, which is more of a spyware than operating system.

Personally rather a 7/10 dual boot setup. That's my plan anyway.
@Spllitzty. well my files well be on the "D" drive, I never keep my personal files on the same drive as the OS. It'll also give me a backup if 10 decides to trip over it's own feet.

Unfortunately there still are computers using Windows 7 that can't run 10 for some reason.
This Win 10 upgrade did not work on my pc. Message said that my version of Win 7 had a driver that would not allow upgrade until driver had a fix.
Umm if it’s unsafe, just download more windows

They were so freaked out that they couldn't read the message that said you can revert that appeared on the screen that appeared after the forced update. There was a button. Still, it was a nasty trick and killed off a lot of weak machines. Kind of like the Windows 10s machines that will be out to compete with Chrome books. They will allow you a one time "upgrade" to a full version but there won't be enough storage space to handle the updates, in effect bricking the installation. No reversion to the lite version allowed. Have a little laptop for Christmas kid, it'll be dead by Easter.
