    Super convenient! I own a 2002 Durango, and I just searched "Using a wooden stick to listen to pulley noises" on google, and found this. It not only answers my question, but it's also on a Dakota, which is almost identical to the Durango, 'cept it's a pickup.
    Thanks a ton, sir!
    PS: Looks like the issue you fixed here is my issue too... So, that kind of makes this a two-for-one for me.
    Thanks again!

    Hi there sir I have a similar noise it's a bit louder and it makes a rattle noise. It's very noisy while driving like the only time the rattle noise fades away. When I turn the steering wheel to left or to the right.

    your video gave me some confidence on doing this myself on my dodge. Getting some noise like the part where you spun the bearing in your hand. Tho i dont get the clank noise while its in gear. I also hear a chirping sound that i suspect is the alternator or wp.

    How do you pinpoint noises that only occur while you're driving? I'm pretty sure it's coming from one of these bearings/pulleys. The noise is very acceleration dependent. I can't reproduce it by revving a stationary car. It has to be moving and it only happens when accelerator is pressed about 1/4th of the way. If I go over or under that pedal pressure, it disappears.

    I use a 2 foot piece of PVC pipe to listen. Either 3/4" or 1/2". The 1/2" is my preference. Also, keep a piece in the trunk with your emergency kit...

    Thanks for the bmw help, I'm not sure what I'll have to do to fix that. I also have a 1991 jeep Cherokee 4.0 having some overheating issues. No leaks anywhere, water pump makes no noise, all hoses have coolant flow, and are hot, no air in the system already checked that, radiator was replaced 2 years ago and it worked great until now temp is reaching over 220 and then efan kicks in and it does cool it down but something isn't right... And I also replaced tstat and did complete coolant flush. So I'm guessing it's water pump or radiator? What do you think.

    hey I love your videos thank you so much for providing all your hard work for us people who don't know much about cars. I have a unrelated question that I need help with maybe you can help me? I have a 2004 BMW 545i and what's going on is the computer won't communicate with a OBD scan tool and also the car will not start and I get a transmission error and multiple other codes is there any thing that you can think of that could be going on I believe it's my main computer? What do you think please help me.

      +Mrizing Sorry I have near zero experience working on bmw's but for example in the VW Passats the BCM, TCM and obviously the PCM can do this. If you had problems with other electrical accessories before your car died it would be possible its your bcm.. If you want a shot at fixing it yourself try looking up all the fuses and relays in both your engine and cabin fuse box, than physically check out all your control modules make sure their wiring isn't obviously damaged/loose. And also visit BMW online forums and ask around there, odds are some BMW enthusiasts there can steer you to the right direction. GL

    Dr, Sir:
    I have the Toyota corolla 2004 CE 4 cylinder 1,8 L and it's become a month when the engine got hot after 5 or 10 minutes it starts to vibration and shaking. However, I have replaced new spark plugs, chek all the mounts, vacuum pipes cleaned the throttle body and air idle valve, replaced the drive belt too. but still, it has the same problems. Please help me. I'm waiting to hear from you. best regards,

    • @cefrose9363
      @cefrose9363 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      manoky zadran it may be the radiator. If its not giving out the right amount of pressure to push the fluid, it could not supply enough, or get some back spillage of oil from the engine which will really damage your engine. I'd recommend checking the color & consistency of your oil, engine coolant, & transmission fluid (speaking as their intake valves are pretty much attached), if any are off, you might have a pressure issues, which then you'd need to take it into a shop before furthering the damage.
      As we'll as, your radiator may have just given out on you. Any odd noises or things your car has been doing since this started?

    Another great video! My car's making an electronic humming noise around the throttle body when the ignition is only in the 2nd position. I used a stethoscope and it sounds the loudest around the idle air control valve. I'll try unplugging it to see if the sound goes away. What then?

    • @myRatchets
      @myRatchets  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +anti0918 Thats probably normal, if you have an electronically controlled throttle plate they usually make that noise when the key is in the on position. Thank for commenting.

    • @anti0918

      RatchetsAnd Wrenches It's a cable throttle. The sound goes away if I unplug the IAC valve connector.

    good video... but I notice a whistling sound coming from the engine which sounded just like mine... what is making that whistling sound as you gas up the engine and where is it coming from? I like to know because my car have that sound and sometimes the sound fluctuate like a car alarm from far away during and after acceleration. Can you give me help?
