      @@miichoco_8631 It's not about that. It's not saying lives are more important. Lives lost IS compared to damage done to buildings and grocery stores.
      However, it's also a business. The cleanup after these things cost a lot to put to right. If you make it out with your life, of course it's wonderful. But losing things that matter you is also hurtful.
      And as someone who works in retail. If I'm lucky to survive, I would be cleaning up that mess. There's nothing wrong with feeling compassion towards other that have to do that job.

      Y A lol jokes on you, japanese skyscrapers are built with rubber and steel? I think?? And most japanese buildings are built to be earthquake proof and are built with sensors that notify the tenants an earthquake is approaching and put on a siren around the country. Japanese is the most advanced when it comes to these type of things, they live so close to the epicenter so all of their buildings are built to be earthquake proof. Skyscrapers can tolerate around a 1-7 type of quake. Whenever u see a building swaying during an earthquake that means its flexible

    • @kathighfield
      @kathighfield 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Skyscrapers are now usually earthquake proofed if sometimes up to a 9. The shaking is because they’re built to move with the ground and not stand still and therefore fall over. You’ll notice most of the devastation is small buildings than big. But sometimes they do fall but so do small buildings.

      Tidgy The UK gets many earthquakes, but they are almost never felt because most of them reach no more than 3 on the Richter Scale, meaning that our earthquakes don't cause any damage and are felt just slightly.
      I've just googled UK earthquake, and found that one happened yesterday (27th June) and was a 2.6 on the Richter Scale. Here is a list of all the earthquakes that have occurred in the last 50 days in the UK (earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/earthquakes/recent_uk_events.html).

      People recording the disaster on their phones is actually crucial in the aftermath. For one, it can be used as news footage to report the event. It can capture certain events in the chaos that people would miss during the commotion, like seeing where a person might have been struck and buried under a building
      Can also provide evidence of how buildings withstood the earthquake. If someone buys a home for example and it's claimed to be reinforced to withstand shockwaves up to a certain strength, but then it falls down before then - you've got proof that it was the earthquake that destroyed it and you may even be able to see how it fell and what parts of the structure failed first
      There's also the fact that this may simply be a persons last moments. In a situation as extreme as an earthquake where you may die, you may feel compelled to capture what you're going through so that others can see what happened
      Not so much "Time for a great instagram video" as it is: "If I die here and now, this footage will tell people how"

    10:50 The reason why drop, cover, and hold is very important during earthquakes. The man could've killed his baby by running outside. If he would've stayed inside and dropped to the ground nothing big would've happened. Instead, he ran outside and the earthquake threw him across the street into the ground.

    Dude in Chile we're used to earthquakes, and buildings don't really fall, unless they were very poorly built, usually every house and building is built for resisting strong earthquakes.
    It's actually weird for people to be that scared of earthquakes, since it happens all the time, we're just used to it.
