"I never knew when to quit. Just ask my fourth grade teacher." Fun Fact: The one of two highest rated Ernest (Jim Varney) movies alongside Earnest Saves Christmas (1988). Casting Notes Fact: Eartha Kitt auditioned for the role of Old Lady Hackmore. The casting director for this film would later cast The Emperor's New Groove (2000) and Eartha voiced the character of Yzma in that film as a favor to the casting director. Action Star Fact: Barkley, the dog that appeared in the film as Rimshot, performed all of his humanlike functions, such as driving a car and operating a garbage compactor, with the aid of his trainer. Scenes in which the animal appeared to be in danger, such as when he was under attack from a sword-wielding troll, were achieved using harmless props and careful editing. Prop Connection Fact: The pizzas seen being thrown at the bullies who try to attack the kids' tree house are re-used props from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret Of The Ooze (1991). Both movies had the same prop master, Doug White. The Chiodo Brothers are also credited with special effects for this film, they made Killer Klowns From Outer Space (1988). Some of the trolls in the finale were repurposed Klowns. Also, the same spinning Klown death effect was used for the troll deaths.
Great reaction to this Halloween themed comedy classic dude.... The creature/troll effects were done by the 'Chiodo Brothers' effects team (who also did effects for the Critters movies and Killer Klowns From Outer Space...in fact some of the additional trolls in this film were leftover costumes, slightly redressed, from Killer Klowns)....the characters of Chuck & Bobby (sometimes played by different actors) are featured in most of the Ernest movies (and in the short lived Saturday morning TV series 'Hey Vern, It's Ernest!')... Eartha Kitt played Old Lady Hackmore (she was more well known for playing Catwoman in the 60s live action Batman TV series)....many of the additional characters that Jim Varney/Ernest plays (within Ernest's own family - such as Auntie Nelda Worrell, Flying Ace Worrell, Rich Astor Clement Worrell, Hairdresser Bunny Rogers Worrell, Farmer Lloyd Rowe Worrell, Reverend Phineas Worrell, Sargent Glory Worrell, Rockabilly Coy Worrell, Rhetch 'ill' Worrell, Wife Edna Worrell, Davy Crockett Worrell, Billy "Boogie" Worrell, Pa & Ma Worrell) are also featured in many of the Ernest Movies, Commercials, TV Specials & the TV Series. I hope you plan to do more Ernest movies because many of them are funny.
This is one of my favorites. The reason Ernest Scared Stupid is my favorite I love the facial expressions that he does and the faces it's funny. And Scary in some parts imagine being 6 years old and watching a troll kidnapping children. But now as i am grown up it's a classic for me. She was in the beginning of the movie when she and her family were saying we will get them back. As the towns people were burring the troll. She was the little black girl in the beginning scene.
I was only a few weeks old after this came out. We watched this on the regular not just every Halloween but every weekend. Its so fun and we were huge fans.
Either tho this movie did terrible, it soon became a classic to watch around Halloween…Ernest Goes to Jail is my favorite Best part the same people that did Killer Klowns from Outer Space also did the costumes of the trolls for this movie
This movie did get some things right about Trolls like they're magical beings, they have super strength, but they love Darkness, including evil. That's about it though. Trolls dread the sunlight, because it turns them to stone, and Trolls are Giants pretty much, they kidnap human children, leaving behind a "changeling," but creating their own troll offspring as a threat is not a traditional characteristic. They're also royally indifferent to Humanity's existence like they don't care if they live or die, however, their Giant Counterparts, the Jotunar, hate/eat humans, because, in Old Norse Mythology, their Giant father, Ymir's corpse was made to create Earth/Midgard and show disdain of this fact when humans were born from Ymir's remains. I wish this was more accurate to Troll mythology because it would've been hilarious to see Ernest take on a 20-30-foot-tall Troll, especially if he rammed the giant Trantor with his Dump truck. Then again, that probably would be a huge budget, somewhere like "Killer Klowns from Outerspace" Hint-hint, the same guys who worked on that movie, worked on this one! Despite my criticism, I still love this movie and the other Ernest movies!

Ertha Kit is hilarious in this.
I saw this when I was 9 and that troll scared the shit outta me lol
Earth's Kitt was every bit as funny as Ernest. She was a total mad woman as old lady Hackmore.
This movie scared the crap outta me when I was a kid, LOL
Earnest goes to Africa is a good one to. So are his commercial ads and earnest's family albums
I saw this in the theater when I was 5.
Gotta do Ernest Goes To Jail.
