I've been hearing this is one of the best episodes. So disappointed, but now relieved that I found it.
I am so disappointed that Netflix hid this from us, and I'm only hearing about it now.

I've been in love with this version since I first saw the episode. I am so fascinated with how naturally the intro song lends itself to an orchestral fantasy rendition, although, no doubt there was some great talent at work.
@@bobgrainier it was probably Ludwig Goransson, who did a lot (most?) of the theme and music work for Community, and who probably did the special rendition as well. Really talented guy!
I always hated not seeing this episode, I knew it existed but didn't know where it was, I'm rewatching Community and knew it existed somewhere since it was always mentioned like every 3 episodes

Sometimes, the most stupidly simple suggestion - "just look it up on TH-cam" - actually works. And here I was prepared to trade my copy of "Kickpuncher 2: Code-Name Punchkicker" to some coked up Korean back alley body-builders for a low-quality Romanian dub of this episode on VHS.

@@TheSaintFrenzyget the physical copies like you said! It may take up space, but they can’t just delete your files. Even Windows can “terminate” your system, they have a right to look at every bit of data you put on their system. All these new updates & user agreements & we just end up “borrowing.” Amazon has already lost movies due to agreements that their users thought they permanently purchased. If you have an account and pass away, if they find out, they can delete the account even if the user had purchased $1000 worth of ebooks-books.
This is one of the show's best episode. Such a shame Netflix hid this gem. Couldn't they just cut that part off? This episode was both sad, sweet and funny.
Nothing needs to be cut. Making the stretch from cosplay to black face is offensive. This is a sad world we live in today.
@@raulsanchez543 man it was considered offensive at the time too. thats why shirley & troy react the way they do and why changs character was killed off so quickly. also dark elves rarely have pitch black skin; they are usually depicted as having grey, purple, or blue skin. chang is clearly doing blackface and the show punishes him for it

Definitely a good idea to pull an episode that very accurately shows the warning signs of someone being suicidal. Helping those who might be offended is clearly way more important than helping those who might be on the edge.

it's funny because nobody was even offended by it. netflix was just a lil bitch and pulled it before they could even give anybody a chance to be upset
@@DJDipstick lets not forget that there is tons of more offensive blackface still on Netflix which they should have removed instead of this, for example a month python sketch where eric idle is imitating a slave in blackface

Damn sucks this was hidden because of the "black face" thing cause it shows some quality character work for Jeff who is typically shown to *ONLY* care about his study group friends but in this episode it shows that he takes time to step out of his bubble and at least pretend to like something just to make someone else feel better and also a willingness to step in when he sees someone may do something that might hurt others or themselves
Jeff admits it was only out of guilt though because he started the name fat Neil

I heard so many good things about this episode and was waiting to watch it in Season 2, took me until halfway through Season 5 before I found out it was removed from Netflix.

I’ve been black for 34 years and I understand the difference between character satire and racism. No one asked for Netflix to remove this episode. No one asked for Hulu to omit Always Sunny episodes. PC and cancel culture is ruining everything and soon life-which already sucks enough-will suck more because our laughter as a society keeps getting canceled.

If no one asked for it to be cut, how is it cancel culture? I thought cancel culture was when people on the internet complain until something is changed, but no one on the internet complained about this episode.
This isn't cancel culture, this is capitalism. Shareholders don't want to be associated with it, so it gets cut, even if the creators and audiences all think it's fine.
Same reason that sex is more heavily censored than violence. It's not about audiences, it's about the shareholders too terrified of alienating any group they think will give them money, so they cut anything they think has a chance of making people upset. Maximising profits at the expense of creativity.

First off there wasn’t any blackface in this episode so did you come here just to comment that?
Second, if you’ve seen any of the other episodes you’d know pretty much every episode sticks to liberal politics, wokeness, and representation of marginalized people. This isn’t the Republican wet dream you think it is.
It’s not cancel culture if no one asked for it to be cancelled. It’s a corporation removing the episode because they want advertisers, and when you blame individuals for the decisions corporations made without us asking them to, and single out the political group most opposed to corporate pandering and the viewers of the show themselves, you’re letting the corporations get away with taking things off of Hulu randomly.
This episode is a masterpiece. It would have been the easiest thing to just have this be a fun, "look how nerdy" episode, but they managed to connect it to such an emotional thing. I don't know, it's hilarious but at the same time it really gets to me. By the time the intro theme is running, my heart bleeds for Neill.
The fact that this episode is kinda lost media just makes it more epic

As a black man, this is my favorite episode and I didn’t ever notice Chang in blackface in fact I figured he was just doing really impressive Druid cosplay.
This episode was still available on Netflix Australia when i watched it in 2020. Never knew so it was removed elsewhere.
I’ve only seen pieces of this episode and I’m so happy I get to see all of it. Can’t wait for the movie!!

I kept wondering why Neil told Annie that they played D&D together in the season 2 paint ball episode. So apparently they pulled it because there are dark elves that were offended? I lean to left but my god, this is the most egregious example of over sensitivity that I’ve ever seen.
To be fair, dark elves have devastating boycott and cancel culture attacks!
Not only is it one of the best episodes, I think it’s THE best episode to show to someone to introduce them to Community.
I still can't believe this episode was taken off Netflix but that one episode of The Office with actual blackface hasn't been pulled...

Can someone explain to me which race CAN play a Drow? Chang pretty much nailed my idea of what a male Drow looks like.
oh playing a drow is fine in dnd! Just the makeup on his face can be considered blackface and that’s not very cool, as much as I love the episode I get why it was taken off
@@smiley_face2872 I get where that is coming from. But what of green skinned fictional characters, or blue, or red? You're saying if any of those colors are used it doesnt matter what race of human they are but the fictional Drow cant?
@@brianlarsen9952 well, I was just thinking about the makeup, like the black that he put on can be considered rude/offensive since that’s what blackface is kinda. I don’t know for sure, but I think other colors should be ok since they don’t have any negative connotations behind them?
@@smiley_face2872 but its a comedy show, i never get it how can people find it offensive. Like how certain colored skin wear a Chinese dress during Lunar new year or Huipil to the bar are red flag.
@@smiley_face2872 if you put on a white wig and elf ears how is it STILL blackface? Shirley in that scene does not know anything about DnD so she doesnt even know what a Drow is, hence the question. I doubt anyone is every gonna accuse a mechanic or coal miner of blackface, because you have to use context to determine that.
