So I decided a few months ago to just start doing the mechanics on ny vehicles my self and started YouTubing. This video is damn perfect and walked me through what I thought would be a nightmare of a job. I just followed along and everything went smooth. Thank you very much!!
Thanks man! Just got an older f150 and first time looking at drum breaks, was confused at what I was even looking at, coming from European cars to American makes me realize how much easier they are to work with
Thanks for the kind words Chris! We appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment on our video. I struggled with these drums, but that's to be expected when you do it for the first time. Next time it'll be easier.
Lol, it's not too bad when you get going. And since this was my first time doing it, it definitely seems more difficult than it really is. Next time I change them it should go more smoothly. Unless up swap out the drum brakes for disc. But that's for a later project.
I am very grateful 🙏 for your video , I was so easy to follow, I lost the tire to my 1992 Ford Bronco and did not have the money to take it to the mechanic. I was successful. Thank you buddy
Great video. If i may when you put on the pins that hold shoes on plate you used needle nose. I noticed you were very far back if you use the very end you will find it easier to put those on. All other tips were spot on.
Absolutely James! It would have been a lot easier. A lot of lessons were learned while doing this for the first time lol. Thanks for the tip, and thanks for watching! 🤟
My driver side rear has been locking up while I’m driving. I get home and my brake drum is hot to the touch. Sometimes it is very hard to start moving, any ideas? Do I have to take everything completely apart?
I bought some drums and one of them had a weight on it and the other one didn’t I bought them both in 2 different orders could I use them both or should I change one they both look the same the only difference is that one has a weight
@@TrickShiftGarage My hardware kit came with a spring washer for in between the brake shoe pin under the c-clip. I couldn't tell if you reused or used a new one from the video. The kit also comes with new springs and related hardware, and when comparing with the old, it's definitely worth it.
I am curious if this process would be similar on an Econoline of the same year. You'd imagine they'd reuse parts, but this is Ford, they probably have entirely different brake shoe systems.
There's a good chance it's the same, but I can't say that for certainty. If you end up doing yours, please let us know! It could help someone with the exact same question!
@TrickShiftGarage according to ebay spec sheets for a drum brake kit, the F150 and E150 have the exact same system, at least until 1996 for both vehicles. I am not sure about 97 onwards.
@TrickShiftGarage reason I asked is because I discovered that Ford uses different power steering pumps for the E150 and F150, apparently the Eco ps pumps are better than the F150s, and people tend to swap them into their OBSes as it improves handling, function, and whining sounds. You'd figure they'd cut costs by reusing as many parts as they can, but Ford has a better idea.
Please help. We've got the 2013 F150, STX, 3.7 6cyl. The drums are grinding like crazy. Ive only ever done pad style brakes before. My question is, when replacing the drum brakes, do I need to purchase both rear shoes and parking brake shoes, as well as the spring kit?
If the brake shoes are stuck to the hub, then I would take a hammer and hit the shoes until they come loose. That may be all you need to loosen them up.
@@TrickShiftGarageidk if I lost my paitence or what after putting the rear axle back in once I got to the breaks I was doing fine until I started trying to grab any of the springs or the cord that holds tension. If I had to guess I lost my paitence

Awesome man! Let me know how it goes! 🤟
Excellent video! You did a great job explaining each step in a very simple way!
Thank you very much! 🙏
Excellent video. Thank you for the detailed explanations. The wrench spring hack is brilliant.
Thanks for watching man! We appreciate it! 🙏
Thanks man, very well organized video! I've done drums before but just wanted to see if there was anything special about these I needed to know about.

WOW.... Anyone else overwhelmed just watching? 🙄 OMG not even attempting this! It's wizardry or witchcraft 🙃 My hat's off to you guy!

Thanks buddy, sucks about the plungers! I hate those kinds of misses!!!

Anytime! I'm glad it helped! 🤟

Thank you so much! The most informative “HOW TO” tutorial 😮💨

I would. You could have a broken spring or something else.
Thanks man helped so much
Awesome! So you got it all done?
Nice video! Much appreciated
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! 🤟

I have no idea honestly. I don't remember mine having weights. I would definitely ask around and see if that's normal.
Do you need to replace all the hardware or can you do just the drum?
I would definitely replace the hardware since it's cheap and over time the springs will wear out. That's just my personal opinion.
@@TrickShiftGarage My hardware kit came with a spring washer for in between the brake shoe pin under the c-clip. I couldn't tell if you reused or used a new one from the video. The kit also comes with new springs and related hardware, and when comparing with the old, it's definitely worth it.
Yea I used a new one if I am remembering correctly. Definitely recommend new ones for sure.
Does it matter if the springs are loaded under or over the anchor pin ? I noticed you loaded them under & I’ve seen it done both ways
I don't believe so. Just as long as they are securely on the pin I think it's fine.
@@TrickShiftGarage thanks for the response

That's good to know! It makes sense, but sometimes Ford likes to make things difficult lol.

Yea you would figure that. But Ford likes to keep us on our toes! Lol good information brother.

How bout if the hubs stuck to brake shoes like really stuck

my 1999 ford f150 springs are totally different
I believe Ford changed them around the F150's redesign in 1997. But the concept is very similar.
Yeah $32 for an online manual
About the same price as a Haynes manual and has a ton more information.
what is wrong with the adjusters on my truck? th-cam.com/users/shortsQkM2sUuF9Kw
Leave it to ford to over complicate everything
Well, drum brakes in general are way more complicated than disc brakes.
Ur absolutely not helping at all with telling me how to put this back together so thanks for waisting an hour of my time
Can you expand on the issue you are having?
@@TrickShiftGarageidk if I lost my paitence or what after putting the rear axle back in once I got to the breaks I was doing fine until I started trying to grab any of the springs or the cord that holds tension. If I had to guess I lost my paitence
@Tap_rack5.56 are u ok? It's a 10 min video clown
You can always pay a tow truck to haul your ride to your nearest mechanic shop and let people that actually know how to work on cars take care of ya
@@OZ31K have you seen the economy, who driving a 30 yr old f150 can afford some shit like that in the middle of a rear diff replacement,
