You’ll probably have to replace the screen eventually too which can cost $199 like it was going to for my iPhone 11. I upgraded to a 14 because I already replaced the battery once, replacing a screen and a battery, I’m better off upgrading.

The iphone 15 series have a 1000 cycle battery endurance as opposed to iphone 14 and before, which had 500. That means you probably won't need to change your battery until 4-5 years with the 15.

my iphone 12 pro was going strong until I had to replace my battery, and of course I wanted to do it through apple for $90 bucks and they messed up one of my volume buttons, so they gave me a refurbished iphone 12 pro and within 3 months the wifi chip got messed up on it and now they have to replace it again with another refurbished one which sucks, I took good care of my original iphone 12 pro, whoever gets it will get a good iphone 12 pro unlike this one I got.

I’m still using my iPhone 11. It’s about to hit its third anniversary of use and the battery is still at 88% health (89% if I am to believe coconut battery). I’m not a heavy user though. It still does absolutely everything I ask of it and I expect to get at least 2 more years out of it (probably with a new battery at some point). I think if you are not chasing any single novelty that comes out, you can expect a long lifespan in your iPhone. I personally don’t care about AI on my phone so I’m perfectly happy with the new features I’m getting out of iOS 18 (particularly the home screen customization and the better integration of reminders with the calendar).
I’m using the iPhone 6s, I had it for 3 years, and its on death row right now, freezes, can’t use multiple apps due to freezing, crashes, battery die super quickly, get hot really quickly. Apps don’t open as fast but super slow. These updates ruins your device.
It’s not true that slower performance is due to a degraded battery. I had Apple install a new battery and it made no difference to battery life on my iPhone X.
I just got a 15 Plus today to replace my XR I’ve had since the 11 came out. It still works well, but the battery drains quickly being at 81% health. I was debating replacing the battery in it, but with the trade in promotion Verizon is running now it didn’t cost me much more to get the 15 Plus. My first gen iPad mini still works to this day, as well as my 9.7 Pro. I’m liking the 15 so far, it has a little more screen size with little penalty in size or weight from the XR. It looks slick in black and I put it in a Smartish Grip Zilla case in the “Graspin’ Aspen” style, and it’s a great case if you’re looking for something non slippery. It almost feels like spray in bed liner material in the hand.
I am going to upgrade my iPhone 14 to the new 16 but I keep my iPhone 11 and run a lot more on it that I won’t use my 14 for. It’s going to get iOS 18 and it’s still a fast phone so the battery is degrading but the performance hasn’t taken a hit so far
my Iphone 11 pro max is only 5 years, I do replace the battery (it was 69% estimated life left), I just love my phone and my time enough to replace battery but not really need it. It work just fine on latest os version, no lag and nothing else is broken
im still using my wife’s iphone 6 for web browsing, netflix and youtube. for games, its a big no as for my wife’s old iphone 11 which she bought upon release, yes it is still working fine as if itnis a brand new phone.

I'm still using my 2016 iPhone SE and it's my main phone that I use for everything and I still have a working iPhone 4s which was my back up phone until I got a note 9. Now I have a 12 mini but I still use my SE for my day to day and just use my note 9 and 12 mini for phone calls. Why I use my se more is because I have my Fitbit set up on it and it's small enough for me to use quickly on the fly and put it back in my pocket but the fact that it still holds up and runs all the apps I need to use says they last longer than 5 years.
With samsung and google now offering 7 years it would be foolish for Apple to offer anything less than 8 years of updates. Also security updates are offered for around 8-9 years on iPhones.
It seems like an iphone will last a life time with battery replacements. The only downside is not having new updates after so many years and upgraded features of a new phone. Im a bit behind with a 7plus. Thinking about upgrading to iphone 13 soon. The quality of the 7plus is just great to where i dont feel the need to upgrade but i do want a bigger storage and i guess a newer quality phone in general.
Unless you‘d lose your iphone it would be just as secure as the new ones, apple pushes security updates up to 10 years. However if you were to lose your iphone, it would be easier to break into for someone who found it. I‘d say update every 5 years or so if you want to keep your data safe

Yeah Id rather not have Apple Intelligence. All I care about is that everything else works normally and that my phone is still getting security updates so I can use my banking app.
As an iPhone 15 user the best thing to me about Apple AI is that it's not gonna come to my phone. I was really happy when they said that my phone wont support all of the useless, annoying and creepy AI fakery features. I can't stand all this AI hype going on right now and i really don't need any of that in my life. Guess the iPhone 15 will be my first phone that i will be using for more than 2 years. Probably until it becomes really obsolete in like 4 or 5 years and by that time i really hope that the majority of people got sick of AI being shoved down their throats as well and that companies start to move away from AI, even though the chances of that happening are slim. If companies in 4 to 5 years, when my AI-free iPhone 15 becomes unusable, are still putting AI everywhere, i swear i'm going to turn my back on smartphones once and for all and get myself a dumbphone instead. I really don't have to use and support a product that overstepped boundaries.

Probably until it becomes really obsolete in like 4 or 5 years and by that time i really hope that the majority of people got sick of AI being shoved down their throats as well and that companies start to move away from AI, even though the chances of that happening are slim.
If companies in 4 to 5 years, when my AI-free iPhone 15 becomes unusable, are still putting AI everywhere, i swear i'm going to turn my back on smartphones once and for all and get myself a dumbphone instead. I really don't have to use and support a product that overstepped boundaries.
