I bought an used iPhone 14 Pro Max. I was getting a good deal price for it. It wasn’t an official Apple or Amazon store. It was from a store that deals in second hand / used / refurbished iPhones. Price was good because I wasn’t getting any box / cable / warranty. But the store owner assured me that every part is original. There were no changed made to the phone parts. First thing I did after buying this phone was, take it to Apple Store and get it verified. 😂 and I’m happy with the purchase. It was a 100% battery health, no parts replaced, someone bought it in USA and probably got a replacement unit from service centre for whatever reason because of which the phone warranty was expired. Even though the phone purchase date was hardly 3 months before.
I have personally never bought a refurbished phone but for us who are from continents like Africa it becomes a bit challenging as the shipping duration may take 2 to 3 weeks, one also has to look for shipping agents to facilitate for shipment of the desired product. All in all it may be a good or bad experience but it is very doable. Lastly i remain hopeful that i will receive my first Iphone from you. Be blessed.

It was “premium renewed” and it honestly looked brand new, it came with 100% battery life and it literally didn’t have a single scratch (at least not any I saw). Buying from apple is basically buying a brand new phone since they replace the case, battery and screen. They only use other parts that are not abused like the camera, processor, speakers and haptics with 1 year apple warranty that u can check in the website itself which is why its more expensive since its the same as brand new. Amazon on the other hand is a lot cheaper but the condition is an actual refurbished product it is used and shows signs of wear and tear like scratches and dirt
Still is not worth 200 dollar discount from mark from a 4 year old product .You also have to consider longevity in the price, and older hardware depreciating in price due to that .
I've never used Amazon for refurbished phones but friends have. With Apple you will pay more, for the new display, cover and battery. I've purchased refurbished phones from Back Market here in the U.S. with no issues. My last purchase was a 12 Pro Max from them, it was absolutely flawless with 94% battery life. And I'm really happy with it. and still cheaper than buying a refurbished phone from Apple. For myself if the battery life is below 94% return it and order a another one. Thanks 👍
I appreciate someone making a video like this but generally if you’re looking for a refurbished phone, especially an iphone 12, you’re looking for something cheap. if you’re going to spend SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS on a phone, you might as well get a refurbished iphone 15 or something. this is kind of ridiculous.
A lot of people in these comments don't realize that being a Ceritified refurbished phone from Apple itself is like buying a brand new phone. They replace everything the screen the battery the casing the camera lense anything that needs to be replaced you can trust it to be good quality as they fix up the phone with high quality parts but for Amazon when they refurbish stuff usually they refurbish stuff with cheaper parts if you look at them sure they look the same but the one you bought from Amazon while it still might last a while the parts are cheaper and therefore the phone will dwindle faster ex. the battery health
A lot of people realize they’re buying tech that’s more than 3-4 yrs old. I’ve purchased refurbished phones from places like eBay and gazelle without issues for years. Nothing has degraded any faster just because it was purchased outside of apple. Also, because apple as a company is kinda trash, they implement measure that purposely stop a phone from functioning if not replaced with parts they can make money from.
Yep, I bought a refurbished iPhone 13 from Amazon and it was supposedly excellent condition. If that had been accurate, I would have been fine with my purchase. The phone was dented on one corner, scratched screen, and a scratch on the camera face. I opted to keep rather than return because I was leaving the next day on a trip. Upon returning, I wrote a review of my experience. Amazon did not allow the review to be posted. The review was polite, only containing a description of the flaws and wondering about the sellers inspection and what standard was used to ascribe an Excellent condition. My review was never posted.
Apple refurbished is really the only real "refurbished" phone. Amazon, the only thing they sell as refurbished are just used phones. The only time I buy refurbished is when it's done by the manufacturer.
You can’t go wrong with Amazon renewed I bought an iPhone 12 and an iPhone 15 both in the lowest condition, both came in super good condition, I got the iPhone 15 for $580 and the battery was at 100 capacity
Yeah I got a 14pro max right when then 15s came out and it also has a 100 percent battery capacity I checked the battery cycles and it only had 61 cycles not bad wish I wouldn’t have got the max though… now I really want a 15 pro just for the major weight difference and better one handed use with the rounded off corners
13:00 the Amazon one has 100% because they reprogrammed the battery, but when you use it for a while it’ll drop back to the health that it really is. It happened to me with an iPhone XS Max bought in Amazon!
amazon renewed is just preowned products in preowned conditions. apple preowned products are actually refurbished which is why they look brand new because it was pretty much dressed up w new parts to meet new condition expectations. hence the certified preowned.
Amazon renewed forces sellers to replace the battery as their policy states that any device needs a battery life of at least 80%. Amazon refurbished program isn't as crappy as you think.
@@ronaldmcdonald6067 i recently had bought an renewed Apple Watch Series 4 in “excellent” condition. When you purchase from Amazon, you're buying from different sellers/vendors and/or stores. Every refurbishing seller has their own process on determining how to rate/grade a phone, based on whatever factors they come up with. They also have their own determinations for what they consider acceptable vs minor repairs needed before selling. Basically, you'd have to buy an iPhone from every seller in the world for this comparison against Apple to be valid. Cool video though 👍🏽
Only refurbished! Any product coming strait out of a factory can be quality checked or not (maybe 10% are checked). And then you buy from Amazon where you might even get scammed. NO Refurbished means it’s a returned or repaired phone which has been in the hands of technicians. In other words it is 100% been checked. If it had even the slightest scratches, that part would have been exchanged. It is a good as new.
Apple Certified Refurbished stock is sold like new. There is no difference in look or function from a new device. Amazon refurbished is not even close in comparison.
ofc its not the same refurbished quality, however, if you want a phone thats has absolutely no scratches, why even buy used, for the apple refurb price you can literally just buy a brand new iphone 15. the amazon price makes sense, really cheap, but its used. what do you expect????
Bought an iPhone 12 Pro for about £200 (around $260) in perfect condition and around 95% battery health. Easier to find a much cheaper and well looked after phone on eBay if you know how to look and avoid scams
@@MaryamKamaly08 you have to know what to look for. I’ve been buying and selling on eBay for around 10 years so it’s easy to spot the difference between a good deal and a deal that’s too good to be true. Whenever I’ve been “scammed” I got my money back and most times kept the product too

It indeed has been a while, but I am back now and it feels good to be back! You bring up some good points regarding buying refurbished phones, this is why I recommend only buying refurbished from large retailers like Apple, Amazon, eBay, and to be cautious with smaller companies that may not use the same quality standards. Hope you are keeping well too! Lots more videos coming soon :)
20:30 the whole point of buying refurbished is to save as much money as possible not spend more 😂 The apple certified one is 100% a worse buy Simply because it is nearly double the price of the Amazon one.

I worked for a business that bought amazon refurbs, they would come in defective soon after the warranty was up. Also we bought excellent and they came with a ton of scuffs on the screen, very dirty phones. In a batch of 20 only 5 were acceptable, the rest we sent back for replacement.
Good video in general but i‘m confused why you‘re so in awe about the exterior condition of the apple certified to the point that it makes you question if it‘s really refurbished when you read off the page earlier that they replace the shell and then even mention that they do again just a bit later? I mean of course it looks brand new when the shell is literally brand new xd
I bought a refurbished Apple watch ultra from amazon, it was a good deal but came with a fake strap, an unofficial charger, was covered in sticky residue and came in a cheap cardboard box. Once it was cleaned up I was happy with it, but I would be really disappointed if I bought a phone and it came that way.
You can see around the switches and the speaker that the Phone was used with a case. Actually a good sign from the prior owner, but could have been cleaned off better
I bought an Amazon refurbished Apple Watch S8 Stainless in Excellent condition. It was brand new, probably a store return if I had to guess. An absolute steal for $380 !!
Right now, in the US, you can get a refurbished 128gb iPhone 13 Pro for $679 that is basically a brand new iPhone with a one year warranty and is eligible for AppleCare+. That, to me, is a phenomenal deal!
I've only purchased refurbished devices since I discovered certified refurbished back around 2017. No problems so far. Ive gotten an iMac, a MacBook air and an iPad so far.
I got my iPhone from Amazon, renewed premium and whoever renewed this phone did an incredible job! This phone is basically new! All I can say is don't order from back market lol
"I found an iPhone 8, WAY too old." I'm on a 32GB 7 Plus with a very clean 512GB 13 Pro Max that I paid $350 for on the way. I'm quite excited for the upgrade.
Always buy electronics from the provider, not third party. I used to have to switch earphones every some months (bought them from Amazon) but not one issue with the wired bought through Apple.
The thing with Apple refurbished iPhones is that they are very expensive and they get a new housing, so comparisons are pointless since the housing is new, unlike those from Amazon. I recently bought a refurbished iPhone 14 Pro Max in Deep Purple from Amazon (EU) for €799, listed as "Excellent" and "New" in the order confirmation. However, it arrived with two small dents on the housing, 2-3 noticeable scratches on the display, and some finer scratches. The battery health is at 100% and supposedly only charged 13 times. I'm negotiating a price reduction as I don't want to wait weeks for a refund. It came in a white sterile box with a cheap USB-C to Lightning cable, and only with a warranty and not a guarantee , which is worth as much as a "trust me, bro." Apart from that, it's fine.
@@Yunusparlak55 I've been using it for about 5 days now, and it's pretty good! Everything runs smoothly on it and it chugs through COD Mobile like it's nothing. It's quite a shame that Apple discontinued the mini iPhones, I can only dream of a red iPhone mini with USB-C... In case you're wondering where I got mine from, I got it from Back Market! I bought an excellent condition for $395 and the battery was at 100% capacity.
You can trade out a new iPhone every two months if you have an Amazon card and finance it and barely pay any interest. Honestly that’s so dope as feature.
i think people are forgetting that apple replaces the battery and shell, basically making it almost brand new. i don't think amazon does that, but i could be wrong. i want to upgrade and refurbished from apple might be the go to!
One important thing you have not talked about is iOS support. How many more upgrades of iOS will 12 have before it is no longer supported? I think that is very important ! I have an iPhone X which works very well still though the battery life is going down but it is two iOS upgrades less than the new iPhones and I am starting to get apps that will not work with the old iOS which is a big reason I will get a new iPhone later this year.
iOS support is indeed very important and is something I always cover in my review videos. This video was more focused on comparing the build quality of each refurbished phone. To answer your question I would reasonably expect the iPhone 12 Pro to be supported with iOS updates until 2026 or even 2027 👍
You need to consider a warranty "if any" on a refurbished phone, I am getting ready to run out the door so there is every possibility that you addressed this. I would not purchase any refurb without some kind of legitimate warranty.
I get the sense @Dion might not be familiar that 80% of what is sold on Amazon is from third party sellers. Not "partners" just straight-up 3rd-party stores.
It's not a better phone, what are you talking about? It's $4500 board in the phone. You got from Amazon the full. You have Amazon with a better deal and better warranty. And a better option, so what are you talking about?
Actually burn ins on amoled displays are more visible in gray background LOW brightness. And then turn off the lights and there you can see the burn ins.
I remember getting a ipad from Amazon renewed. It was all fine with minor scratches. Turned it on everything look fine but it came with low battery decided to charged it with the one they gave me literally didn't work, tried with one of my chargers and still didn't. What I found interesting was that it was close to dieing so I had to quickly reset it because it was part of the process of sending it back so I truly wonder if I didn't would they have not given me a refund either way though I wasn't going to let that slide. Don't know what I expected really. Got a refund and bought a refurbished ipad from Apple and everything was good.
Not to be mean, but everyone knows that apple refurbished will look 100% new, and operates as such. But man, that 12 pro was expensive from them! Way too much money. Other companies that do refurbished are interesting to me tho. Many other companies you can use next time. Thanks for the detailed review!
I wonder if you tested how long do the batteries last. My biggest concern with Amazon refurbished is that usually no one can have access to the original parts. So that 100% might be of some bad poorly manufactured battery, which in reality translates in much lower autonomy and much faster degradation. If you have any data about it would you please share? thank you for the informative video
The content provider's delight regarding the perfect condition of the Apple Certified Refurbished unit seems unwarranted. As he, himself, acknowledges; Apple's store states that their refurbished phones include "new outer shells". Therefore, the surprising discovery would be that one of their refurbished phones does NOT look like a brand new unit. Also, they include new batteries. It seems that Apple's refurbished units are quite similar to new units. There is no question regarding the quality of product you will receive from them. Apple's reputation is beyond question. There is no risk when buying from them. Therefore, the surprising condition would be that Apple did NOT charge an almost-new price for their refurbished units.
I think there’s a lot of room for variable when considering these 2 specific options. Direct from the source (Apple) is logically always going to be a better option. Amazon has thousands of sources so one could get lucky and unlucky. Too many variables. I would like to see a comparison of apples and apples. For example, EBay certified refurbished and Amazon certified refurbished. As both are not Apple directly
My experience has been don't expect your refurbished phone *not* from Apple Refurbished to be at 100% battery health. Have seen plenty at 80%, which sucks. I'm such a perfectionist when it comes to Apple battery health that I would buy Apple Refurbished, but 'normal' people I guess it really doesn't matter.
I just bought a 14 pro from the Apple store, shipped from the UK, and it says ‘certified refurbished’ now. Btw I think difference in temperature is due to the display being not original from Apple, look at them bezels.
I can only go by past experience but, my original iPhone 5 failed within a week of purchase and Apple had to send me 3 "refurbished" iPhone 5s before the last one actually worked, ie 2 refurbished iPhone 5s were also duds. Same happened with my 2019 iMac which failed after 10 days, and after my 2013 iMac failed due to a known issue with some internal components, Apple wanted to give me a "refurbished" iMac,. I refused and was very vociferous about getting a new iMac informing them repeatedly that I was not going to accept a $2,000 refurbished computer when I had just purchased a brand new computer. The Apple Store finally gave me a new one. There are other situations with Apple that I have had to deal with, but that is for another day. I still am in the iPhone/Apple universe as I feel that Microsoft still does not compare given that I had spent years on Microsoft products.
If you had done your research prior to making this video, then you would’ve quickly learned that all of Apples refurbished/preowned phones come with a new battery and new shell. The only components that are “used” are the internals.
Never ever would I buy an iPhone from Amazon and the condition of the one he was showing which apparently was "Excellent" is exactly why. I usually end up selling my year old phone when upgrading to the newer model and when I post it for sale, I post it as Used - Like New and that's exactly what it looks like. There is absolutely no sign of use as I take care of my phones and I have customers that save my info and check with me every year every year when the new phones get released to get first shot at buying my old phone. I would put my one year old phone against any brand new phone in a head to head contest to see if anyone could tell a difference and I'd bet that nobody could. The phone does get used every day and the only thing that takes a hit is the battery which usually ends up at 98% battery health when I sell it. I'd pay extra to have the phone in pristine and like new condition over some phone that has scratches over the cameras and the other switches.
Hi! Nice to see and hear you! Haven't bought a refurbished iphone! The Amazon iphone still looked very used, but a new battery was installed, that's good. Nice video, so good to watch! 'Optimized' is the American English spelling. 'Optimised' is the U.K. English spelling. Neither are considered wrong, it's just a matter of preference.
I upgraded from an iPhone 7 (bought new at Carphone Warehouse) to a refurbished iPhone XS (bought via Amazon). This was not a good experience, as the iPhone had water damage - not done by me, and found when I took it into my local Apple Store to get a new battery - and both Amazon and the seller refused to provide any compensation. I then got a replacement XS from my local CEX store. Was very happy with my purchase but, because I thought my XS was about to lose access to the latest iOS, I upgraded to a mint condition Product Red 13 Mini in January this year (bought from the same place). Very happy with the phone, and would definitely recommend CEX. Thanks for the content.
Thank you for sharing. Sorry to hear your experience with the XS from Amazon was not good, but glad you got a 13 Mini (love the red colour). I actually wish Apple continued the mini iPhone size, but the good news is the 13 mini should still last for many years to come! :)
I got an Apple Watch from cex. Only found out afterwards it was extremely marked up in price. The battery health was 98%. After a week of use the health dropped to 11% and would have a screen on time of 5 minutes, I’m assuming they duped the health numbers or smt but cex is not it

My review was never posted.
i got a phone from them in "acceptable" condition and it came brand new lol
Post your review to the Better Business Bureau.
Then it is your issue if you refused to return the phone to amazon. So why complain? You decided to take an inferior product.
just return it and they will send you another. Simple really
Sounds great! Thanks for sharing :)
@@audywavy I didn’t choose the seller, it’s just random but the seller sends it through Amazon and they check it to make sure it’s good before selling
If it’s not good you can return it they have a super flexible return policy
I got a MacBook Pro and it had a faulty battery, but that’s just me
13:00 the Amazon one has 100% because they reprogrammed the battery, but when you use it for a while it’ll drop back to the health that it really is. It happened to me with an iPhone XS Max bought in Amazon!
Which company? Maybe they are not all the same?
Then why does the iPhone 13 mini that I ordered from Amazon has 86% battery health?
@@Justliving514that’s horrible battery health!
@truthteller2711 it's only bad if it drops below 80%
@@I_Am_NiiTA nah mine is at 90 and it’s noticeably worse than before
amazon renewed is just preowned products in preowned conditions. apple preowned products are actually refurbished which is why they
look brand new because it was pretty much dressed up w new parts to meet new condition expectations. hence the certified preowned.
Amazon renewed forces sellers to replace the battery as their policy states that any device needs a battery life of at least 80%. Amazon refurbished program isn't as crappy as you think.

I got my current 14 pro from amazon refurbished, and at first it seemed fine, the shell and screen were completely undamaged, and the battery health was at 100, but over the last month its dropped like a rock, so im thinking that the battery was replaced with a cheap one and now its coming to bite me in the ass
With how much the phone cost, I feel better buying a new one from apple or my mobile carrier
I totally agree with you 😊
When you purchase from Amazon, you're buying from different sellers/vendors and/or stores.

😂😂😂
every phone i have bought from amazon has been perfect, i paid $700 for my iphone 14 pro and it had zero scuffs and 95% battery life left
That amazon phone was gross. I would never buy a refurbished device unless it came direct from Apple.
Only refurbished!
Any product coming strait out of a factory can be quality checked or not (maybe 10% are checked). And then you buy from Amazon where you might even get scammed. NO
Refurbished means it’s a returned or repaired phone which has been in the hands of technicians. In other words it is 100% been checked. If it had even the slightest scratches, that part would have been exchanged. It is a good as new.
I bought one in a swiss shop. Website said that they put in used parts but it looked like new and worked perfectly until i dropped it lol
Apple Certified Refurbished stock is sold like new. There is no difference in look or function from a new device. Amazon refurbished is not even close in comparison.
Yep! I ordered a renewed premium the phone is prestine
ofc its not the same refurbished quality, however, if you want a phone thats has absolutely no scratches, why even buy used, for the apple refurb price you can literally just buy a brand new iphone 15. the amazon price makes sense, really cheap, but its used. what do you expect????
It's 2024 and Apple is asking $730 for refurbished iphone 12 pro 🤦 ridiculous
Bought an iPhone 12 Pro for about £200 (around $260) in perfect condition and around 95% battery health. Easier to find a much cheaper and well looked after phone on eBay if you know how to look and avoid scams
But eBay can be risky so it’s better to buy from somewhere reliable and get a refurbished phone instead

The apple certified one is 100% a worse buy
Simply because it is nearly double the price of the Amazon one.
true, i dont know how all these people dont understand it. The apple refurb price is so high, you can literally just buy a brand new iphone 15 for like 100 bucks more wtf
How are they selling a refurbished 12 pro for the price of a new iphone 15
They load the old phone with the max memory, hiking the price up. Which makes the price close the new phone , with the least memory.
I’ve always used eBay for used and refurbished as you can ask the seller what the battery health is.

I gave up on Apple's official refurbs because they only give 10-15% off. If I'm going refurb, I want significantly more than that.
It looks flawless because apple replaces the entire housing ( as well as any damaged part ) as a part of the refurbishing process.
If you have the money, buy from apple. It is the same experience as buying a new iphone.
Thanks so much for the info, My iPhone 13 arrives tomorrow from Amazon, now I know how to check for battery life and defects.

The best option is to find grandmas on Facebook marketplace selling their phones way below what they are actually worth.

"I found an iPhone 8, WAY too old."
I'm on a 32GB 7 Plus with a very clean 512GB 13 Pro Max that I paid $350 for on the way. I'm quite excited for the upgrade.
Always buy electronics from the provider, not third party. I used to have to switch earphones every some months (bought them from Amazon) but not one issue with the wired bought through Apple.
Basically basic simplicity
You pay for apple quality, you get apple quality period

You can trade out a new iPhone every two months if you have an Amazon card and finance it and barely pay any interest. Honestly that’s so dope as feature.
That packaging is absolutely tiny for an Amazon order.
i think people are forgetting that apple replaces the battery and shell, basically making it almost brand new. i don't think amazon does that, but i could be wrong. i want to upgrade and refurbished from apple might be the go to!
so they don't bother to clean the device?
What about a refurbished iphone from Walmart?🤔
One important thing you have not talked about is iOS support. How many more upgrades of iOS will 12 have before it is no longer supported? I think that is very important ! I have an iPhone X which works very well still though the battery life is going down but it is two iOS upgrades less than the new iPhones and I am starting to get apps that will not work with the old iOS which is a big reason I will get a new iPhone later this year.
iOS support is indeed very important and is something I always cover in my review videos. This video was more focused on comparing the build quality of each refurbished phone. To answer your question I would reasonably expect the iPhone 12 Pro to be supported with iOS updates until 2026 or even 2027 👍
@@DionMedia Oh that's great, thank you!
You need to consider a warranty "if any" on a refurbished phone, I am getting ready to run out the door so there is every possibility that you addressed this. I would not purchase any refurb without some kind of legitimate warranty.
Renewed Premium would’ve been more of a 1 to 1 comparison.
They changed the sim ejector on the iPhone 14
Before you mentioned it, I also thought the borders of the amazon phone screen were a tiny bit thicker.

Turned it on everything look fine but it came with low battery decided to charged it with the one they gave me literally didn't work, tried with one of my chargers and still didn't. Don't know what I expected really. Got a refund and bought a refurbished ipad from Apple and everything was good.
Not to be mean, but everyone knows that apple refurbished will look 100% new, and operates as such. But man, that 12 pro was expensive from them! Way too much money.

I would assume refurbished iPhones would be good. I trade in my pro max every year and my phones are always returned in flawless condition.

A more accurate comparison would have been to buy the Amazon Renewed Premium. It also comes with a year warranty and is in better condition.

Why would anyone in their right mind pay close to 600 bucks for 12 pro when the base model iPhone 14 goes for 700 Pounds brand new???
Could be a problem for some on older phones security updates end earlier .

'Optimized' is the American English spelling. 'Optimised' is the U.K. English spelling. Neither are considered wrong, it's just a matter of preference.
Just curious here, what iOS versions did both phones ship with?
