Brilliant explanation, bravo! I’m 45 years old and have been taking trt for 8 years. For the last three months I’ve been experiencing shortness of breath, pain in my right calf, chest pain, numb legs and arms, and balance issues. Finally, after waiting 3 months, I have an appointment with a Dr. on 11-27-18. I suspect I may have a PE. I also suspect that trt is responsible for this. Thank you for your extremely well explained video. You are an excellent teacher.
carlorocky I'm on apixiban after a pe in Dec. I get exactly the same symptoms pains in legs shortness of breath and live my life in panic that i get another PE. I'm glad I'm not alone
@@Pr0ph3cy-k5z no.Thanks for asking. After a recent knee injury, I discovered during physical therapy that the gastrocnemius muscle in the calf is known as the second heart. It pumps blood. I’ve been wondering if there is some correlation between weak gastroc. muscles and PE. Read up on that, I’ve got my hands full with knee rehab reads. Good fortune!
How come doctors around the world are way better at there jobs then in Canada they just neglect you hear wow they tell me I'm fine at 38 years old with a heart rate of 42 resting 38to42 I expect I will die and it because of neglected blood clots I mean I have cough up blood and I have kidney desease my liver enzyme are elevated and the doctors say your a black mail for reasons we can't understand you guys have lower blood then us of course we don't have meany good doctors down hear or they just don't care they are killing you thanks would love to see you you seem like a great doc
Awesome video. Thanks for your explanation. I am brasilian, so we have some different ways to treat since we do not use some of these mentioned drugs. I encourage you to stay doing more videos. You got a excellent didatic method
I had a very severe rattlesnake bite about a year ago, I don't recommend carrying rattlesnakes around by the neck. I had to go back to the hospital three times for Anti-Venom + platelets+ plasma, during my third trip in they discovered three blood clots in my lungs through a sonogram, one of them they said was in a bad spot, during the course of this last I've gotten shorter and shorter on breath to the point of not even be able to work for half an hour without being winded, I also feel fatigued quite frequently and dizzy and my fingertips get numb quite often. I'm only 44 years old and I have three children that I'm not ready to leave without a dad just yet. I have not gone back to the hospital to do a follow-up because I'm very concerned about the level of expertise it might require to if possible rectify my illness or at least prolong it. I would be grateful for any recommendations on doctors that specialize in this field. Thank you
Thank you,i really enjoyed, learned your passionate hardworkthank you so much for creating this video, you are a very dedicated doctor and teacher. Keep it up.
🇲🇽 Excellent explaination. Shows that you are quite knowledge and ethical. In 2019 was admitted to the hospital for 2 months and then received surgery on my lungs. They said it was PE and that I have DVT . Still haven't recovered yet. Still have a pain on right lower chest. I was told that it was scars from the surgery in October 2019. Started with Rixozaban. Later, I started on Apixazaban. Now, I've stopped taking them. I suspect that I may still have a TE or maybe the pain is due to my liver. I don't know. I've gone from specialist in a circular motion until I've given up. So sad that public health system is like this. They were focused on COVID-19 so much that follow-up visits in early 2020 were denied. I remember faking to have COVID to get attention late last year! An ultrasound shows that the Deep vein in my legs are destroyed. The bicuspid valves aren't working! Now, I can't walk fast, nor jump nor run! What a situation!
I just got out of ICU for PE they said there was to many clots to count that hit my lung and one big one in my left leg but the pain was in my right leg, i was in ICU 3 days they gave me fluids then a clot buster after that a med hepner
It hurts so bad for me best way to relax and sleep is sitting up. What else would make me more comfortable cause the pain killers they gave me are not working
Thank you so much for this. I was diagnosed with an unprovoked Pulmonary Embolism in Dec 2017. Luckily I was in the stable group and I am on Apixiban with no side effects. I'm also a medical student and found this very useful. Worth noting my D dimer at time of PE diagnoses was negative and really believe that it's an unreliable test. How do they or can you monitor Apixiban as you cannot do an INR and do you know of many treatment faliures as of yet. I have protein S deficiency and belive this is possibly how I got the PE. I will certainly be keeping up to date with your videos and thank you for allowing myself to be educated on this subject.
Thanks alot Nikki for your great feedback :D You made my day!Apixaban does not need to be monitored as with warfarin. Only watch out for any excessive bleeding symptoms anywhere in your body and contact your doctor immediately if you bleed somewhere. But its possible to check the anticoagulation levels with a test called Chromogenic anti-Xa assay: It is the most sensitive assay to determine the inhibition of factor Xa by apixaban and it is recommended to estimate plasma concentrations of this drug. However, this test is not widely available and it is time consuming. There can be side effects and treatment failures with any medication on the market. No medication is 100% perfect. But I have to say that the new oral anticoagulants like Apixaban have revolutionized the treatment of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Protein S deficiency increases unfortunately the risk of thrombosis formation. Have a nice day, and I wish you all the best!
I'm also on apixaban for life long now. Following breaking my leg and rupturing my acl and mcl followed by compartment syndrome and nearly losing my leg I then developed dvt and was found to have factor V leiden but have not had any issues with the drugs
Appreciate you Doc ! Quick question , if someone is fighting for their life . How can you do this in a matter of minutes ? Unfortunately my mothers friend had blood clots in her legs only 49 and she was a heavy woman but she walked , work and still had a active life . Unfortunately she couldn’t breathe well all of a sudden 2 weeks ago , she told her cousin she could barely breathe and she didn’t feel right . Her family called the ambulance, the paramedics came and she began to lose consciousness , the paramedics resuscitated her and they got a faint heart beat . Unfortunately the paramedics dropped her off the gurney and she died smh . How could of all this been avoided? This was so sudden
What if someone has a PE in their lung but cannot take anticoagulants? The filter won’t work because the PE is already in the lung, right? So what do you do?

How can warfarin be Vitamin K ? They have opposite functions . Warfarin is anti, Vitamin K is pro-coagulation.
Okay, i figured it out. It blocks Vitamin K from doing its job.
@@SPLITSLEEVE so wait , warfarin blocks vitamin k ?
@@gaxiola55 vitamin k 2 thickens blood, warfarin thins it.
