August 2019 DVT and PE , 9 days in the hospital.
They find that I have Factor V Leidan. I'm now on warfarin for life. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Also, I was short of breath for a few weeks before I went to the hospital. Thought it was just humid and/or I was getting fat and out of shape lol . Very lucky to be alive I'm told 🎰

Please keep in mind there are exceptions to these teachings, I was 35 when I had a massive saddle PE which doctors described as catastrophic. I had no risk factors or family history of clotting complications. I didn't meet the diagnostic criteria either I had no chest pain, my only symptoms were tachycardia & breathlessness. I went to a&e on a Monday but sent home with steroids and a diagnosis of asthma. On the Friday evening I collapsed & fitted and was blue lighted to a different hospital, even then drs didn't believe it was a pe, if it wasn't for one Dr deciding to do a CT scan anyway I wouldn't be here, I saw the scan picture, it was huge, my heart was very swollen. I was given 30mins to live so they thrombolised me there in resus, thankfully I was a bit out of it so didn't realise the full enormity of what was going on, and the treatment worked without any major complications. Nearly three years on I still struggle with breathlessness and have developed postural orthotic tachycardia syndrome (pots) but overall glad I beat the 2% survival rate. I am on apixaban for life as all tests have returned negative, heamatology cannot find a reason why I clotted so badly, all investigations returned normal and I'm too high risk to stop anticoagulants so genetic testing can be done. Now that research has been published into covid19 and its ability to cause severe clots and render anticoagulants innefective it is a very scary time for pe survivors like me

    Hi Doc.
My daughter was suffering pain and swelling in knee and sometimes she feels it's hard to breathe a second.. what should we do? What food not allowed.
Actually she already takes some test like Blood test after see the doctor, he recommends to MRI xray, doctor said need to proceed CT scan or ultrasound I am not sure exactly called, after the result mentioned negative for color flow on color doppler. X ray normal.
Any advice how we can manage really I am afraid when I search in Google, until now the CT scan still not yet to read the doc. Due to the appointment rules.
    Thanks

Like the way u teach lol.....the large PEs are obvious but it's the small ones that are nasty......notoriously hard to detect, especially during covid when tests and scans are taking wayyy too long to perform than normal due to high pt load......also covid has increased the incidence of VTEs exponentially.

I was diagnosed with PE 4 yrs ago they said it was a heart flutter but 4 24 ECG's later no heart flutter. Been on Apexiban from the start. My chest is still painful I can't lie down or lean on my chest for too long as it gets so painful. I was told by a Dr that it should not be still causing pain. I have always had runny blood due to taking ibuprofen for pain as I have ME & MS.
I don't know why my lungs are so painful. I have read that in ME RBC can harden and not go through small capillaries. But could this cause blood clots?
I am only 42 yrs old but I can't walk for long because I get out of breath. And walking and talking at the same time is impossible :'-(
