The cap is not high temperature plastic, so by placing the cap in hot water you are making the small one direction tabs used to prevent us from removing the cap softer so that you can force cap off. Leave it in the boiling water for about 1min to make removing the cap as easy as it is going to get. You may want to use a towel like she did to give you grip and leverage. If you still can't remove the cap, try a towel with channel lock pliers. I was able to remove it with a fair amount of force the first time with a towel.
Thank you for the added suggestion of towel AND pliers. After boiling water and both dry and wet towels, I still couldn't remove the cap. I even tried pliers and couldn't, but I used a towel and my pliers and it came off easy peasy. 🙏🏾
This is so awesome!!! I am so glad I found this video.....P.S. you can just clip a washcloth on the mop and it works great instead of wasting your money on the re-fills!!

It was a little difficult at first because I need to keep the cap in the water longer but then it came off no problem. Thank you again!
The tops have "one way" angled spikes on bottle neck that lock into groves in the cap below threads .....so Good tip with the hot water! I muscled one off fairly easily a few minutes ago using channel lock pliers but it tore the plastic up a little ....the heat appears to be the better way because it both would theoretically expands cap making it temporarily larger than the bottle top but maybe more importantly softens the plastic angled spikes/teeth and grooves so they give way more easily ...I love to defeat the corporations!!

Thank you so much for your video! I find the Swiffer Mop for Hardwood so handy but I get migraines from all Swiffer/Febreze products. I was given one for a gift, used it once and been in my closet for a year. Now, I can fill it up with diluted Mr. Clean (which does not give me headaches) or vinegar/water solution.
Thank you so much! I got the cap off on the first try after I let it sit in the almost boiling water for about 30 seconds. I had some floor cleaner from before I bought the swiffer and diluted it with water, recapped and inserted into the swiffer wet jet and it worked great!
THANK YOU!!! I was about to throw out the empty Swiffer container as I’ve been using a non-toxic floor cleaner (I have pets) instead for years.... I just had that empty container in it! You’re the best!!! ❤️❤️
Nice! It worked perfectly. Thanks! I microwaved the water for 1 minute then held the cap in it for 30 seconds. Used a towel to unscrew it and it popped right off.
In the past I just muscled mine off, and poured Pine Sol into them. With the newer models I think the Swiffer makers got smart, and made them extra difficult to unscrew. I've also heard of drilling a hole in the top, and using a wine cork to prevent leaks.
Yes. I have the black bottle of swifter “juice “ lol and I tried this. Several times and zero luck. Thinking they did wise up and made it more difficult
12 now. Who cares! This was awesome! I almost did a different hack, where you slightly widen the holes that are there. This is so much better! It did take me several times to get it, and admittedly, I finally got my daughter to try it and she is the one who got it! Good news is, it works! It really works. Thank you so much for this video! I was so excited when I got my Swiffer Wet jet, but was so afraid of running out of solution, that I am still using the same one! No, I'm not dirty. I was putting Pine Sol into a spray bottle, mixing it with water, and spraying the floor while using the Wet jet. Kind of ruins the point of it, right? Well, not anymore!
And 31 stock holders looks like didn't like it either ...and they are rich anyway so don't care if their maids spend extra money on cleaning products....
Bravo! Today I bought my first Swifter WetJet and I hate when the companies force me to buy something very cheap for a lot of money, like a printer, and I was pretty sure that some very smart people already figured out how we can refill this bottle with the product we want. BRAVOOOOOO!
Thank you, thank you. I was just looking at my bottle and making a note to myself that I need to buy a refill. I just went to youtube and typed in swiffer refills and your video came up (as well as others). This is so quick and easy to do. I have a very large bottle of Fabulso as well as Pine sol. I won't be buying Swiffer refills for a long time.
Actually, I just got medieval with it and used a pair of Channel-Loks. The cap has a series of one-way ratchet-stops, and both your method and brute force can be used to overcome them. This in NO way damages the sealing part of the container; so you can subsequently just use your hand to re-open it in the future. After getting it open, I was at a slight loss as what to refill it with; your video did a nice job of answering it. Thanks there, smart lady!

Nice! After removing the cap, I was able to file down the little one-way fins with a razor blade so that it unscrews as normal without having to repeat the hot water treatment.
Don't use pliers or channel locks (I think that's what they are called) Using those locking plier things caused a tiny leak in my cap that I was unaware of. The fluid didn't leak out but it did allow moisture to build up in the battery pack which which ofcourse eventually broke the mop. Swifer replaced the mop for me even though it was my fault it broke, which was pretty cool. The hot water trick works well, just be very very careful not to apply any force, remove the bottle when your done moping and make sure everything is dry when you put the mop away. It works because the heat makes the plastic very slightly pliable so you can easily twist it off without any force. The plastic will stiffen right back up when it cools, sealing the cap back into place.
It worked perfectly for me! Thank you from a single mother of 4 children things like this add up to be an impossible expense. I can not thank you enough!
listen, somehow i got 4 HUGE jugs of floor cleaner in the mail for free. had my name on the package but never ordered it, because i have a swifter and there’s no reusable bottles for it. they’ve just been sitting in my house for 2 weeks. finally got tired of buying new refills for the swifter and watched this video. you have CHANGED MY LIFE AND WALLET!!! i probably won’t buy anymore floor cleaner for at least 6 months, and when i do, it’ll be so cheap. THANK YOU!!!!
I have and love my steam mop, but I still use my Wet Jet for quick cleanups. This is fantastic! Thanks! I like cleaning with vinegar and water, so I’ll give this a shot! Thanks!
Once the lid is removed. Use a nail clipper to snip off the ridges that line the inside of it. Now you wont have to put it in hot water every time you want to refill the soap.
Thank you very much! I’ve been wanting to make my own solution, to add my own disinfectant like Lysol, etc and or pinesol and just water. And you did me good!! The swifter solution is only good for maintenance but sometimes you need either a stronger solution or a weaker solution depending on the need. Thank you!!
Thank you so much. Although I like the initial product and function, I bawk at how much it costs for refills, not to mention the abundant product waste. PS, the earth thanks you too. ;)
I use a gripper for jar lids. Been doing it for years. Don't soak in hot water, just force lid off. Works for me. Buying the refill bottles gets expensive real fast.
Thank you so much. This worked for me. I did not want to go to the store and I was able to fill it with a fresh scented cleaner. I liked and posted it. I hope you get a million likes.
I am eternally grateful 😊💙 the cleaners that “come “ with the swifter don’t have strong enough smell for me , when I mop I like for it to smell like I mopped . Using my own balance of cleaner and water gives a more “clean “ smell ‼️ thank you !
Sweet!!! Tried this just now and it worked!!! I did have to leave in hot water a little longer, I just left it for 5 minutes and came back and top came off. Thks for the idea!! Back to cleaning. 😃😜
What a dick move by swiffer, they make the bottle like this specifically to force you to buy their refills. Had I known this from the beginning I would've never bought the product. Coincidentally, if they didn't try to force me to use their refills I probably would buy their stuff in bulk anyway. Talk about backfiring and losing customer loyalty
Great! Make sure that the cleanser is a no rinse solution to avoid sticky films. Good instructions my sniffer has been sitting on the back porch because I could not bear to feed it with those expensive refills.
No I’m a guy and thank you I was trying to use a pliers, wrench, couple dif tools to get off!! I didn’t ruin it thank GOD and now thanks to you it’s so easy I’ll always do this! I’ve probably thrown 1000’s of dollars of these bottles away!!! Thanks again! Works great but at first I didn’t have water hot enough or soak long enough!
Big kiss for you it worked !!!cleared out the two spray holes changed the 4 AA batteries wow like brand new, used bleach pine sol and some stain remover ,and of course 50% water , it will come out the top of the bottle until you insert it into the unit read the label says this part down on the pole ... ..ty
Nicely done m'lady! Thanks for not making this 20 mins long like others! I use WM Great Value stuff too. All these brand names with fancy labels are just eye candy and work no better. Whats even cheaper and maybe better is plain old whit vinegar and a drop or 2 of Dawn. Nicely done m'lady!
First time doing trying to refill my wet jet, this was very helpful. Glad I didn't have to boil a pot of water like some other tips I read. In fact my faucet water was hot enough to use without even microwaving. Anyway thanks again!
You can cut off the beveled lower part of the cap and it will not lock when screwed back on. U can screw it on and off like a regular cap. Saves a step when u go to refill. No almost boiled water
Thank you. I did this, but in addition I filed down the locking tabs on the bottle. Now I down have to pre soak the bottle. If you dont have a file you can cut the tabs with nail clippers. I hate plastic waste.
thank you so much! I am so partial to the shark steamer vacuum, however, the Swiffer wet jet is quicker and easier except for the "refill" Instead I use old dish towels and rags and just wrap it that way and now watching your video I can undo the top!
Thanks, I knew there had to be a way. I was just going to use a pair of pliers but your method is extremely simple. I tried it and it worked just like you demonstrated. The reason it opens is that it has little tabs inside the end of the cap. The hot water softens the tabs and you're able to open it because the soft tabs now bend backwards easily to allow it to open. Great job. Thanks for taking the time.
Thanks for the SUPER IDEA. I also crochet a pad ...out of washable yarn. Real simple : Cast on about 41 stiches and crochet all around....and around. Then sorry I cannot show you but you will be able to figure it out if you crochet.....work around and around about 15 rows just a single crochet stitch...then fold to shape...now it is double and you sew the edge together. I made pot holders this way....now discovered they can be used for swifter pads. In the washer and you have your own reusable pads. NO MORE TO BUY. They last a long time.
In this day and age it's too bad the company doesn't make a reusable option. I agree with some of the other comments, it's not even about the cost, but the amount of plastic that's being produced, plastic that is not bio degradable. If a refill option were available, I'd probably buy one. In the absence of that option, thank you for producing this video.

listen, somehow i got 4 HUGE jugs of floor cleaner in the mail for free. had my name on the package but never ordered it, because i have a swifter and there’s no reusable bottles for it. they’ve just been sitting in my house for 2 weeks. finally got tired of buying new refills for the swifter and watched this video. you have CHANGED MY LIFE AND WALLET!!! i probably won’t buy anymore floor cleaner for at least 6 months, and when i do, it’ll be so cheap. THANK YOU!!!!
Thank you so much! This helped me out. I put in some Febreze as well. So my mix is 3/4th water, vinegar, and a splash of Febreze!
I have and love my steam mop, but I still use my Wet Jet for quick cleanups. This is fantastic! Thanks! I like cleaning with vinegar and water, so I’ll give this a shot! Thanks!
I didn’t know there is such a thing as a steam mop. I’m gonna go look for one of those.
Once the lid is removed. Use a nail clipper to snip off the ridges that line the inside of it. Now you wont have to put it in hot water every time you want to refill the soap.
You are awesome! Thank you so much for this video! I've been so frustrated with Swiffer's lack of environmentally friendly solutions!
We just bought Swiffers for our new (to us) house a couple months ago. Glad to find a video that will help us save money!
Thanks so much for this. I will never waste money by buying refills.😊
+CaramelCoils Don't waste money on disposable pads, either!

After you get the cap off trim off the "fins" because its just a twist off top.
Thank you very much! I’ve been wanting to make my own solution, to add my own disinfectant like Lysol, etc and or pinesol and just water. And you did me good!! The swifter solution is only good for maintenance but sometimes you need either a stronger solution or a weaker solution depending on the need. Thank you!!
Thank you for this very helpful tip! The process work perfectly and I refilled it with window cleaner and my floors love it!
Thank you so much. Although I like the initial product and function, I bawk at how much it costs for refills, not to mention the abundant product waste. PS, the earth thanks you too. ;)
I'm just going to add wood cleaner and water to refill mine, because I buy the wood cleaner one
I use a gripper for jar lids. Been doing it for years. Don't soak in hot water, just force lid off. Works for me. Buying the refill bottles gets expensive real fast.
Works like a charm! The best part of this hack though is that Fabuloso cleans 10x better than the Wetjet solution.
Thank you, THANK YOU! I know this is a decade-old video, but you just saved me so much money, I had to say something. You're a genius! Subscribed!!
Sweet!!! Tried this just now and it worked!!! I did have to leave in hot water a little longer, I just left it for 5 minutes and came back and top came off. Thks for the idea!! Back to cleaning. 😃😜
Oh, my! I am glad i found this. Simple yet effective. It saves me a lot of money and the planet, a lot of grief. THANKS!!😊
Exactly!!! Love the product, hate the plastic waste!
Trying to force customers to buy refills and other accessories has been the American way for quite a long time. 🇺🇸🤔😡
33.7 oz bottle of floor cleaner: $2.00
Number of refills out of that: 16
16 WetJet refill bottles: $112
Delta: $110
Someone give this lady a cookie.
Malkavian Raven X not even! dollar tree has huge bottles of pine sol cleaners or any floor cleaner for $1 or less! 😂😉👍 lol!
thekellarts I always get my cleaner there, I like the pine cleaner :-)
Can yall please tell me if the wet jet is worth buying ?????
Lilmama Taurus I think it is
I just co uld not afford to buy swiffer refills anymore thank you so much
Thank you! Worked like a charm - I have never smiled so much while mopping a floor, lol! Absolutely love useful tips like this.
9 years later still saving people money , thank you
Great! Make sure that the cleanser is a no rinse solution to avoid sticky films. Good instructions my sniffer has been sitting on the back porch because I could not bear to feed it with those expensive refills.
I just used a pair of pliers to twist the cap off. It goes back on and off now with ease. Thanks for the video
Thank you SO much. Not only are those refills ridiculously expensive - they smell horrible!
Thank you!!! Super easy and helpful. I refilled mine with castille soap and it now works better than the Febreeze brand.
This did not work for me. Held it in boiling water for at least 5 minutes and still couldn't get the cap off 😪
Thank you, I will you just saved me hundreds of dollars a year
And we save our world from plastics too ! Thank you for sharing!! God bless you .
First time doing trying to refill my wet jet, this was very helpful. Glad I didn't have to boil a pot of water like some other tips I read. In fact my faucet water was hot enough to use without even microwaving. Anyway thanks again!
Jessica Strickland Don't need the water Jessica. Read my post above, good luck.
@@lenetteheinzinger4904 hi. I didn't see your comment. How can you remove the cap without water?
Oh wow. I just followed along doing the step by step with you, and it totally worked. Thank you, thank you thank you so much for this trip.
I appreciate you sharing this information!! I really don't have the money to keep buying refills!!
Super Easy and Works!! Make sure water is REALLY hot for the purple bottles~! Thank you so much for this great info!!!
You can cut off the beveled lower part of the cap and it will not lock when screwed back on. U can screw it on and off like a regular cap. Saves a step when u go to refill. No almost boiled water
Thanks so much for sharing this great money saving tip! I ran mine under the hot tap and it came off just fine. Be blessed!
Wow! Thank you for saving me spending more money than I need to and saving the world from more plastic that it needs!!
It worked! If you can't get it off just use plyers. Comes right off! Thanks!!!!
Thanks for posting this. I won't be buying refills for a very long time.
Does it leak? I'm worried since its stored upside-down.
Pliers are much easier. It literally takes 2 to 3 seconds, and goes back on fine.
@@debraricci6227 No, it doesn't leak, I used pliers, takes 2 seconds.
Thanks for the SUPER IDEA. I also crochet a pad ...out of washable yarn. Real simple : Cast
on about 41 stiches and crochet all around....and around.
WOW this was so simple I never thought it would work, but it worked really well.
THANK YOU for this I was about to go buy more and was tired of spending $10 on refills
You just saved me money I was just looking up prices to refill and I stumbled over this video thanks
You just SAVED my life! Thank you!!
I've been making my own ever since you put up this video. Thank you! Happily saving and trying hard to end my purchase of single use plastics! $$$$$
