Love this! What’s the reason for placing two slices back to back? Does it give it a more bold look? If someone is worried about looking stripy would you weave these pieces or keep them slices?
Agreed. I was waiting for someone else to comment this too. My way of tackling the money piece area would be to leave the lowlights behind it. And then, when shadow rooting, apply the root color to roots everywhere else but do the money piece last; and then same with the toner; Apply the toner every where but last to the money piece so that front area will be brighter. 👍✨
Just amazing education! Kenra, you have stepped it up🥰 I have been trying out the Demi’s and Rapid toner. Love them! It’s great to see an American Based company Impress after many years of Super Pricey European brands, I’m liking my “ options” now. Thanks for such a straightforward explanation, with stunning results.👍😁
Show them this video! 😀 You can say you would like a low maintenance balayage. A reference photo of your hair inspiration is always a good idea to bring as well!
I’m not a hair stylist.. but I enjoyed watching this video! You did such a great job explaining everything I had to see the end product and it is amazing! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Great work! Did you just repeat two foils with low lights with hair in between all the way around? Also, how much hair in between? Couldn’t tell but maybe I missed something 😅Also, What level was the final toner on the left out blonde hair?
Would this technique work for clients wanting to go lighter from dark but keeping the dark root ? Looks a lovely colour and it’s exactly what she likes 😍
Yes it does! You can use the same type of technique but adjust the formula to match the color palette and placement she is looking to achieve. Thanks for watching!
@@Rakhali6767 use a wide tooth comb arms don't bend the comb back and have it touch the hair. That's how you drag the color down. So pub the cob in and stroke down dinner flock your wrist towards the hair.
Can I ask why you just didn’t grab just a thicker slice and saturate it really well instead of doing 2 back to back? That seems like it’s just working harder not smarter. Thanks!
Thanks for your feedback! We'll share this with our team for future videos! Depending on the desired result, you might simply do a color root retouch and every other appointment could get a few balayaged highlights and money piece to brighten around the face and ends.
I noticed you didn't need to fill the hair first. Is that because you used a warm color? I currently have all over blonde and want to add lowlights but wasn't sure if I have to fill in the blonde first or how I would approach that.
Hi Amanda! The 8GB (gold brown/beige) is used as the filler in combination with the 7B. In most cases, adding a fill will depend on the level that you currently are and the level you are wanting to be. A good rule is if the desired level is more than 2 levels darker from the current level, you will want to add a fill color or incorporate the natural underlying tones of the desired level into your formula. Incorporating the natural tones or adding a fill will help with longevity of the desired color and will ensure that the color doesn't appear hollow. Hope this helps!
Dude I did this today and it sucked, idk what I did wrong but root shadow on dry hair is wild. Level 10 hair sucks up any teeny tiny bit of color that touches it. I ended up having to start foiling every other section and really wetting it down when blending for like the 10th time.
Great tutorial, but I would not recommend permanent colour on the roots, as it is difficult to remove and will make highlighting difficult as it grows out. It's going to give you a lot more work as well as cause a lot of unnecessary damage since you have to bleach through permanent colour when they come in for another appointment. Permanent colour is great for on the mids and ends, but not on the roots. I would always use demi on the roots. Using permanent colour on a wig or manakin is fine, but not on a real person with hair that actually grows. Yes I know she used demi, but she also said permanent on the roots is okay, but it really isn't.
I don’t think permanent is good for the ends either as ends are more porous and absorb color more than the roots and you would have to break though that color should she ever want to be lighter again... Demi is perfect for roots and ends when depositing color and have just as much staying power as permanent when used on a porous canvas ..
@kaylaperry8943 it's a good point. I'm glad he mentioned it because not everyone knows these things. People are probably here because they are planning it at home.
Beautiful!! Just a question, doing the root like that would affect in any way if the client wants more highlights later and doesn't want to do a root retouch after this process? Would there be an orange band in the hair when bleaching again? Thank you so much 💜
Hi Dani! Here's what Kelly had to say when we asked her your question: "I used demi permanent color for this process because it gradually fades over time and doesn't change or stay in the hair the same way permanent color does, so it is very easy to lift through when the client comes in for their next appointment, and you will not have any orange bands." We hope this helps!
Can you use this same technique on level 10+ silver/white hair? I currently have white hair, and have for like a year now, but the damage is really building up and I don't want to bleach my roots anymore. I wanted to do a super contrasted look with a reverse balayage, but with black. But I'm not sure how I'd manage that considering I'd have to fill the hair first before I can get it to black ;_;
Thanks for your feedback! You can customize the amount of hair being left out for your client. Some people like more or less lightness! Use this video as inspiration! ️
So basically a reverse balayage is a shadow root added low lights panels and lastly toning entire canvas root to end for those previous blonde pcs left out during the low light process. I’ve been doing it for a long time like that and called it shadow root dimensional balayage 😂. Good to know the name reverse B.
Great video! However, please, please change the music in future videos from this techno, perhaps use some peaceful instrumental guitar, literally made me want to turn off the sound for most of the video :)
Hi Emily! This is a reverse balayage technique. Meaning color is being added back into the hair while still keeping it with a low maintenance balayage effect.
@@KenraProfessional You are using foil. How is that not lowlights? I had both balayage and reverse balayage on the west coast and they never used foil. For the reverse balayage they wrapped the locks of my hair in saran wrap after painting it. And they painted whole locks not what you are doing. What you are doing there is NOT balayage. Please call it what it is so you don't confuse people.
Anyone else notice that the mannequin seems traumatized? Now I don’t know what’s better a faceless mannequin or one that looks like something really bad happened to it? I thought it would cheer up more after it got that beautiful #reversebalayage but it still looked traumatized. Guess that’s a life lesson, great hair doesn’t always fix everything but for people it really helps!
You're right Gregalan21! This is not a regular balayage, it's a reverse balayage! Using depth instead of lightness to create this look. Thanks for watching!
Absolutely love this technique. This is exactly what I was looking for for the same hair situation described.

This is so helpful! I wish you would have shown how to do the front pieces as well, since it is the part everyone sees first.
Thanks so much Kristy! We've also noted your feedback for future tutorials.

How to you prevent leaving comb marks ? I often get this problem after combing down the roots ...

probably helps get a more even color :)
Back in the day we used to call that a retouch in low light so confuse it’s just a fancy word for retouch and low light
6:07 respectfully, you skipped explaining what the pattern was to be repeated. After the first two slices, the rest was not explained...
Great video ❤
Great video and information!❤ would only ask for more light hitting the work, hard to see details
How do you touch this up & find the same sections to lowlight agai?

Stunning & amazing tutorial thank you 😍❤️😍❤️
COULD YOU EXPLAIN WHY YOU NEED TO TONE SINCE YOU HAD APPLIED COLOUR INITIALLY & NOT BLONDOR
Love it 💜
Thank you for watching! 😊
Is there a reason you used different colors for the roots and the lowlights?
Hi, Lauren! This allows for added dimension in the overall result. We hope this helps!
Could you do a reverse balayage with just toner?
In this case, Kelly only used Demi-permanent on her mannequin.
Demi is a toner

can't wait for the opportunity to try this, unfortunately more often than not you hear "I want to go lighter" rather than "i want to go darker" :(

Yep learned that the hard way. I ALWAYS at least dampen the hair before i do a root shadow
Hi so beautiful you used permanent color or Demi permanent color low light?
Hello! We used Kenra Color Demi-Permanents for this result.
Can I use these in permanent version with a different brand of developer volume 30?
