I'm NOT a professional. But, I've done this technique successfully on myself. It's almost a year later and it's time to do it again. This is by far the best, clearest, detailed without endless yammering on an on an on🙄. Every word is purposeful and on point. Thank you!
This is so enlightening. Every time I ask for a balayage, my hair stylists always separate my hair as if they’re doing highlights and I HATE the results. This is what I want
Tell them you want hand painted balayage no foils and make sure the specialize in this technique not all stylists like to do this application method or know how to.
As a hairstylist I know how long and tedious this process can be! She did an absolutely beautiful job with the techniques and her explanations were flawless. She really hit all the points....even down to pricing! Wonderful job!
I’m not even kidding when I’m saying that this video changed my balayage game !! I tried it once after watching your video and my balayage has never looked as good , using this technique ! I tend to overthink things and the way you broke down the process really clicked with me !! I’ve done like 20 balayage since watching this video and I’ve loved the results ! Thank you so much ! Best balayage video ever ❤️❤️
I'm not a professional but i do stuff to my hair all the time lol, i followed your tutorial on my niece's hair, shes 6 and her hair is down to her waist its a very dark brown. She has been begging me to make her hair look like mine lol. So i did this, and turned out beautiful! It looks subtle, but with so much dimension and looks so natural, didn't even have to tone it. Thank you!
You’ve got to be the only woman I’ve watched today that helped explain Balayage wonderfully! I had such a hard time in other videos trying to figure out where to start, how to start, tips or tricks, etc. You explained everything wonderfully, thank you for the info! I can’t wait to play with my hair! ❤️
I just graduated cos school and they did not teach us much of anything about balayage they taught basic same parting for all color. I'm going to attempt this tomorrow! Wish me luck
I‘m screaming at my phone right now. I asked for a balayage from brown to mid-grey (so there was no need to have super bleached hair) and brought an inspiration photo with me. However, I have zero experience with dyeing hair or different techniques and the consultation had me believe that my hairdresser knew what I wanted. I left with weird highlights in blue, purple and pink (“it will wash out”). Needless to say, I‘ll be back there in a few days and pray that they are able to fix it. The colours do wash out but it’s still a damn mess. Thank you for the video, it provided a few very interesting details for me to “make my case” when I go back to the salon.
Love this. really wish she would have went more in depth explaining in the consultation what we should recommend for people who want a high contrast look.
Thank you so much for sharing the head-sheets which demonstrated your sectioning that was extremely helpful. Maybe I'm still too new to the industry (only been licensed for three months) but when you said your lightening clay lifted up to 7 volumes I had so much anxiety just imagining that! Hopefully with time and practice I'll have more confidence with lightening in general, but I love balayage because of the freeform style of application and over all effortless appearance it gives.
By far one of the best education videos. I've seen in a long time. I struggle with learning but I actually got it. Thank you so much, now I'm going to practice this on my mannequin. Definitely subscribing
Thank you very much the technique demo was very helpful. Would have been great to know the end result without the toner- it was really very suttle for so much work.
Hi, Alexis! You could absolutely incorporate a money piece in the front by isolating a triangle shaped section in the top front, with the ability to shift it if they wear a side part etc. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so so much for making this video...from so may days I was wondering if how could I do balayage on my own bcoz I can't afford going to salon. And your video just really helped me
Great tutorial! Would you avoid doing any balayage on the very top layer of hair if the client demands it? she still has some damage on just the very top layer and insists on not touching it with lightener at all, although I think it would not really damage it much further ( she has a level 6 with a bit of 5 on top.) and wants to achieve an overall dark golden ashy blonde balayage. Many thanks for your advice on this!
Hi! Thank you for the helpful tutorial! I was wondering if you could clarify a bit more on how to pick the correct direction for the diagonal sections at the top of the head. You say to make the diagonals to go towards the heavier side of the hair when parting the hair to the side. My hair part is towards the right of my head so my left side is heavier. Would I follow the direction of the sections you show in the diagram at 3:14, or would my diagonals be in the opposite direction? Thank you again for the tutorial!
Congratulations to this masterpiece of balayage 101 🙌🏻 I'm about to make it on my sisters hear. If I may...to colour the grey roots, should I do it first respecting the sections I'll use for the balayage or should I just colour the whole hair after ? Help✌🏼😅 💖
That's the beauty of a diagonal mohawk section! It allows for the client to part anywhere and still have lightness at the part, or around the part if doing balayage considerably away from the scalp. We hope this helps!
Amazing video, I never got taught balayage when I went to cosmo school years ago. I am going back to do new classes soon and these vids have helped me a lot. I can’t wait to try kenra balayage lightener etc too

If you could do a video of just you doing the parting for this technique that would be awesome. When I went to do it I messed up on the side sections.
Great idea!
Thank you for this amazing video! Can I do this on a painted hair as well?
Give it try! Depending on the starting level, you might need to increase the volume of your developer.
Did you process it under a dryer or heat lamp? Thanks
We do not recommend processing any of our color or lighteners under heat to ensure maximum integrity of the hair. Thank you for asking, Kathy!
👏👏👏 SUPER HELPFUL! Especially your comment at 9:48. Xo

That's the beauty of a diagonal mohawk section! It allows for the client to part anywhere and still have lightness at the part, or around the part if doing balayage considerably away from the scalp. We hope this helps!
