  • Woo-hoo! Two Hoyas right in a row. Is it a Wax Plant Christmas? No. But, I have a lot of hoyas and figured I'd give this one a little time in the sun. Have to say, however, that it's NOT a true species, but it's a common (and coveted) one, so figured I'd give it it's own time in the 82nd spot of "365 Days of Plants".
    In this video I go over some basic care tips including where this plant grows natively, where I'm growing it in my home, propagation, watering, lighting and more.
    You can check out more of these videos here and on my IGTV @homesteadbrooklyn.
    Featured plant:
    Hoya carnosa 'Compacta'

    My favorite Hoya yet! 🌿💚 But its so difficult to find in Lithuania. 🇱🇹 I found one with mealy bugs and did a rescue video about it on my channel. Very beautiful plant, that really deserves a second chance after being discounted and almost thrown away! 🌿

    My local nursery reported complaints of mealy bugs really liking Hoya carnosa compactas. I can see it being really annoying too as they have many curls to hide the bugs! I have two hindu ropes and love them. Just like you said, they grow slowly but steady. They are less fussy than some of my other hoyas (which aren't that fussy compared to other plants). Mine just chill in a terracotta pot and need little intervention.

    I have a Hoya compacta that was doing so incredibly well until I noticed that two leaves looked wrinkled/shriveled & felt soft even though the soil was moist. The leaves stayed this way for weeks, and a few more leaves started to look the same. I read that Hoya thrive on humidity; so in frustration, I stuck my Hoya in a ziplock bag and sealed it. The bag formed lots of condensation, so I opened the bag up everyday so it could get air for 20 min. then close it. I never watered it. I left it in there for 2 months afraid to look in to see the complete devastation.
    When I took it out, it was AMAZINGLY dark green, lush, thriving -- it had grown taller! I was SHOCKED. Okay. Humidity is the key. So I bought a H. Potter greenhouse and it's been downhill ever since. The issue is I am battling white mold on a daily basis. My Hoya is in a terracotta pot. I air it out the greenhouse daily (it has a window) and it seems to be doing just okay. Thinking I had the solution, I also purchased a variegated Hoya and put that in its own H. Potter greenhouse. That Hoya also sits in a terracotta pot. And same issue. White fuzzy mold on the soil and sometimes on the leaf. Help? Was putting them into greenhouses, a mistake? Any recommendations?

    How many hours a day do you leave the grow-lights on them? Do you think it would be possible to grow them exclusively with grow lights in a garage, or does it require natural light mixed with grow lights?

    I severely burned mine. It was my first plant. I placed it in a South facing window. It’s red all over and has many split leaves. It still blooms like crazy, but looks sad. It’s huge so I’d hate to lose it. Can I save it? Will it recover?

    What do you think is the best way to clean your hoya? I think I may have a pest problem as theres lots of white looking mold / dust on and inside of the leaves..I sprayed it today with a neem oil/water/mild soap spray and tried to clean it as much as possible but not sure if thats going to help..

    Please help!!! The few leaves at the tip of my Hindu rope are black, the leaves are perfectly healthy it's just that they have turned black and I have no idea why. The plant is about 6" from a grow light and I only use organic fertilizer. I water about once a week because of the well draining potting soil and terra Cotta pot. Any ideas please??

    I have a question. I live in Egypt and I want to grow Boston Fern and some varieties of Calathea. Temperature can get as high as 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Do you think these plants can withstand that amount of heat. The humidity here is always above 50%.

    • @RoseGolden0
      @RoseGolden0 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As long as you keep them out the direct sun they should be okay. They’re usually grown in rainforests so keep them shaded and humidity up. Also spray them down from time to time

    • @Bushkaboo
      @Bushkaboo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most definitely. They come from warm climates. They are native to Australia and the Pacific region. They need humidity and they need dappled lighr or just morning sun - no full all day sunlight.
