To explain HOW it works:
There is a little speaker inside the talbox, so when you connect an instrument to it, your sound is now coming out of this little speaker instead of out of your amp or speakers. Since the enclosure is air tight other than the tube, the sound travels through the tube and comes out in your mouth. From there, you can make movements with your mouth to get the talkbox sound! It is similar to putting your phone speaker in your mouth with a song playing and making mouth movements (try it, it works).
So is it basically like the vibration from the keyboard is transferred to the tube, which acts like the vocal chords vibrating air?
@@bookbutterfly6613 yeah
Gotta try this out
Fuck it worked, mind blown
Now i look like an idiot with my phone in my mouth
So if you're not using your vocal chords, does this mean that mute people can use the talkbox to sing? 🤔
Asking the real question
That's an amazing question
@@gav-ce5cm Thanks. It makes sense to me since most mute people are hearing and would be familiar with the sounds of language, and even deaf individuals can receive speech therapy to learn how to speak. I believe speech therapists could utilize this technology to give a voice to mute people, and enable them to sing. I think this is especially important for people who were able to use their voice box in the past and enjoyed singing, but lost that ability at some point. There is an old anti-tobacco ad of a man singing a western song with a hole in his throat, to which he applies a device much like the talkbox which applies sound vibrations through the hole and out his mouth, so he can speak, but one of his lyrics literally says, "but you can't sing worth a darn," and that's because his device only uses one note. The talkbox is flexible in being able to use many notes. We also have voice banks like TtsMP3 which automatically changes inflection of its electronic speech according to the patterns in different languages and dialects. If the technology which enables the talkbox and TtsMP3 could be combined, I believe we could have a device that enables vastly improved speech independence for mute people, and even the joy of singing!
Short answer, Yes.
@@NasikaSakura but deaf people don’t need speech therapy to learn to communicate. that’s why we have sign language. It’s easier than trying to teach them to speak with their voice
Hey man, I'm a little late to the party, but I really appreciate these posts. I got super into the idea of trying the talkbox out on my songs after listening to Zapp and Roger most of my life and after watching you and Swatkins use it. I bought that same one you have the other day and am just now trying it out. It seems a bit more complicated to me than it might be, but with some practice and assistance, I'm excited to see where this goes. Thanks again for the informative videos and I hope to continue to see more in the future. Keep up the good work brother!
Thank you, this kills ppl trying to compare auto tune to the talk box, you actually need talent to use the talk box lol
@Jonathan Jacquet yeah and a lot of ppl don’t know you don’t actually speak into the tube you have to whisper aggressively for it to sound good and the sound you use from the keyboard replaces your voice and you have to play the right note on the keyboard just like any instrument
you need talent 2 use auto tune
@@haydenplays2k974 not as much talent to use the talk box though
You need talent for auto tune too
U really sound goofy, u actually think it’s not hard to produce and engineer music, respectfully rethink your comment
Richie Sambora also uses a talkbox on the guitar. He uses it in songs like Livin On A Prayer
Yeah, also there's a sick talkbox solo in The House That Jack Built by Metallica.
Good and very informatic Video, can't describe it any better!👍
Thank you for this video! 👍 You deserve more likes ❤️
Before watching this video I always thought you were supposed to sing into the tube and then the synth auto tunes the notes. The synth sounds coming out of the tube makes a lot more sense 😂
Thanks, great video. I have a question, can every keyboard merged with a talk box or are there some specific types of them?
Zapp & Roger is da real talk box deal.
Right
Awesome. Now I definitely need one.
Bro you had the answers to my questions! Thank you
I became fascinated by this because I do alot of accapella and as a result I wanted to learn this Talbot, is there tips that include a non piano/keyboard player? Because I'm having quite a difficulty to learn this instrument?????
if you can play a non-keyboard instrument then go for it but otherwise no
Love this video :) keep doing making Talk Box videos 💪🏼 I’ll be the first to watch
Thank you so much for the info!
You don't actually need to put your mouth over the speaker. Cup your hands round the speaker and it actually works better. Each finger lift creates different notes 😄
yeah right i actually have a talk box and you have to put your mouth on it
H*** yeah I'm going to totally like your video you explained it short simple to the point and precise thank you I'm ordering one because of how clear and detailed you explained it on your video I wish everyone was to the point like you lol
Pretty cool adding this to my wishlist
Talk box are amazing
Gosh that looks like so much fun.
Nice thank you for showing
This is so sickkkkkk bro
Damn, that looks hella fun.
We love Landen Purifoy!!!
I'm getting one!
I love your talk box
The fact that he didn't mention Roger Troutman... is very telling.
True
Keep it up, I see you on TikTok Awesome 😎🔥
Congrats on 1M subscribers
Does any talk box come with a tube and input and output leads?
cool, but what sound should i use on my keyboards to make it sound so good..?
I need one immediately
I'm not into making music, but that was just dope
Just came from ur tiktok live to see what it was and coincidentally saw your tutorial 😅😅
Q: if I use the normal piano that has input thing, will talk box make THIS sound to make words with it?
How to make a cheap talk box: phone and straw
Can you do a video how can you connect the top box into the into the piano
Omg bro you are so cool with that talkbox
Thank you !!!!!!!!! I saw a few of your vids a few days ago and my mind was like: how does that work... thank you! (2 years late haha)
Excellent video, it was very entertaining and educational, thanks a lot.
Adam Jones of Tool uses a talk box on the 2006 album 10,000 Days.
The talk box becomes your vocal cords! Now it makes sense.
I literally came from your TT Live to find this answer and here you freakin' are.
We can use it in the guitar too
Would be nice for patients with tracheostomy. Lip reading was thaught in nursing school 😅
🔥🔥🔥
Does the keyboard need to be a synthesizer of can I plug it in to my electric Casio keyboard?
You can us it with anything that has 1/4 in plug. A guitar or anything as long as it plugs into it
David Gilmour used a Talkbox extensively on the album “Animals” --(Pink Floyd ) listen for it on the song “pigs” especially
what if you put effects and distortion on le synthesizer to change le sound??
In my experience you can do that but it won’t sound as clear, still works though and it’s more useful in some situations than others
I was watching your tik tok stream and saw that you made a tutorial on how it works , it’s actually quite interesting and you learnt me something new :)
Hey Landon! I want a talkbox really bad so I am saving up. Anyways do u have 2 have an instrument such as a guitar or keyboard in order 2 play the talk box?
ye
Nice👍
Now I'm wondering if this was how the Martian howls were produced in Jeff Wayne's 'War of the Worlds' album....
Omg this is like when you mouth words infront of a fan and it sounds cool
Wait so if I don’t have a synthesizer but I have a keyboard but the keyboard sound is the sound of a piano will it sound like that still?
I like this video I find your vids on TikTok a bit much like tbh I think your a bit too excited on tik tok but I understand that’s to make money on live but this video pretty sick
What what songs that you can use for your phone to make your own songs to make a talkbox
It's so rare to see him not speaking with a talk box
Roger and Zapp owns that sound. Check them out.
so cool
Great job!
can you use this on a synthesizer that doesn’t produce sound only on a daw
So do I need to have a instrument to use it cause what if I just want the talk box itself just to make cool sounds but I’m pretty sure to make that sound you need the instrument so lmk
This video was not properly linked but I found it!
How did you get the talkbox?
It works with independent battery also?
Hero Elementary Theme Song Talkbox Cover
I NEED IT LANDEN
Which sound do you use exactly??? Thanks in advance
does it only work on mi di keyboards or can it work on others as well?
Are you able to perform songs on TH-cam without getting a copyright strike?
I subscribed to your channels
Roger Troutman is Mr Talkbox
Actually talk boxes normally use a 2 inch compression driver not a tiny speaker
I want a talk box for Christmas
Nah the real talkbox legend is roger from ZAPP
You are right on your side but as i saw this thing for the first time it seems fake could you put the tube in the mouth and sing with and without plwying keyboard plzz
Can you use the MXR clone looper pedal to loop the sounds on the talk box from the keyboard?
yes you can chain any pedals together and use the talk box instead of a speaker so you could connect a looper in between the talk box and keyboard to have a melody looping while you sing
@@luigikoopa8771 he wants to know if you can loop the words spoken with the talk box
@@linkintheskywithrupees You have to use a separate microphone to record the words you say and then loop that. The talk box cannot loop or record sounds on it's own.
@@luigikoopa8771 thank you Luigi
what the patch/tone is this )?
What sound do you use on your keyboard
What is the keyboard you use
Imagine hooking it to a moog modular😮
A top box
Homie got a gaming keyboard 🎹
How much power does a talk box use? im tempted to integrate this into cyberpunk esc cosplay instead of a keyboard maybe put individual nots onto a device that i can discreetly control with one hand.
Mix a talk box with a Nother talk box tube
Do you need to be a good singer to use this?
Where is the talk box from?
and yamaha psr a 350 works
so all you need is:
speaker
tube
noise
is that right? because I don't wanna drop 200 on one of these things just to do some stupid but with the Wii theme lmao
Wow
Where do you buy it?
But what happens if you use the talk box without a keyboard
A talkbox is nothing but a speaker basically
So it needs any form of audio input, and the best one happens to be from a sawtooth synth
WHATS THE NAME OF THE SYNTHESIZER PLEASE TELL ME😢😭
What about a Casio keyboard
Where's the seriessss?
Ayeeeeee same name bro
Use the talk box
Would this be able to be used to helped mute people talk?
I'll answer here as well as in the "can mute people sing with the TalkBox" comment above. There are a couple of "electrolarynx" devices similar to the TalkBox that are more commonly used to facilitate speech for people who have damaged/missing/paralyzed vocal chords. The tube and keyboard is bulky and would be awkward to carry around for everyday speech, but are a couple of more common types I know of: the most similar one to the TalkBox is a device that creates a base tone in a small speaker held in the mouth (often integrated into a retainer or dentures) which is controlled via an external switch. Basically the TalkBox minus the tube and keyboard.
The other is an external device that is basically a vibrator on a pressure switch. When pressed against the skin of the throat over the larynx/vocal chords, it "buzzes" the chords. Basically, both types of devices allow the user to speak by providing a single tone/vibration that is then modulated through mouth/lip/tongue positioning to produce speech sounds. The TalkBox expands on this mechanic by allowing tone modulation via the keyboard.
These devices (and the TalkBox) would only be useable for those who are dealing with specific mechanical forms of mutism. Difficulty producing speech has loads of causes and many wouldn't be helped with the addition of tone/vibration: low muscle tone in the mouth and tongue, mental blocks triggered by trauma or anxiety (selective mutism), apraxia (where the brains struggles to communicate with/coordinate muscles), etc would need different solutions.
Roger Troutman is the God Father of the talk box
