I have the super finish max, i love it. It does a good job for the type of work i need it for. Eventually, i will upgrade, but i got mine at Woodcraft for 100 bucks. Can't beat it. !!

I purchased Sher-Wood Moisture Resistant Lacquer to use over Sher-Wood BAC wiping stain on a mid-century modern furniture set. I have the Homeright Finish Max but have yet to use it. May it be used to spray this lacquer like that in your video (I'll do it outdoors)? Any tips?
I wouldn't really call the Ryobi gun, an hvlp. It's basically a cordless version of what's in this video. Graco makes a cordless version as well. Cordless is nice, and has advantages, but if it doesn't have a turbine, i don't really consider it hvlp. It's a nice system though.
I know its been 5 years since you made this but just in case you are still doing videos, how do you clean the gun after spraying laquer. I have the same gun and I was told that after I clean the gun with laquer thinner, I should also clean it with soap and water. I don't know why that should be necessary since I never spray water based materials in this gun. Any comments would be appreciated. Enjoyed your video.
Do you know how nitrocellulose lacquer compares to the acrylic (?) Stuff you used here? I'd like to do my own finish on a diy guitar build and I'd like to spray nitro. I have a cheap harbor freight hvlp gun, but i fully expect it to crap out, though they seem to do alright. I'm interested in this sprayer for a eventual replacement. Thanks, really digging your channel. As a firefighter, I'm considering starting with some small handyman jobs on the side. Been doing this stuff for family for a while, maybe I can branch out a bit...

--canned, aerosol lacquer works well for small projects.--Anchor has a wonderful brushing lacquer called Fin Seal, which is a sealer but works as finish also. It doesn't give you headaches.
Did you have to provide proof that you are a professional in order to buy the pre-cat lacquer? My SW store says they can't sell it to a Joe Homeowner like me without having a commercial booth set up. I'd really love to use this for my kitchen cabinets I'm building.
I just recently got this sprayer and it’s not working, maybe you might know what the issue is. So I went to go test the sprayer with water like it said in the directions, currently have the blue tip in, and when I pulled the trigger, plenty of air came out, no water at all. So i unscrewed the container and turned it in again and felt then tube that’s supposed to suck up whatever’s in the container and I didn’t feel anything. It’s just not sucking anything up. Am I missing something for did I just get a busted model?

Polyurethane is often a little bit of a thicker coating when compared to other protective wood finishes like lacquers. Due to polyurethane being a thicker coating, you may need to use thinner to reduce the material’s viscosity so that it can be sprayed well. The easiest way to know whether or not you may need to add thinner is by trying to spray the material without any thinner being added. The sprayer has no problems spraying latex paint so I think It will be able to spray polyurethane no problem.
Using this gun to spray Lacquer can be explosive due to high flashpoint. If too much vapor is in the air. You should only use water based lacquer that is no lower than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The unit produces a spark. I’ve seen it on the news where houses have exploded from highly flammable coatings being applied in a confined space.
😂😂😂 I've used it finish max type for painting my children room walls, my car: primer, base coat, clear coat nothing exploded using it for 2 years in anything need spraying just be sure of viscosity by adjusting by viscosity cup and you are ready to go
Are you sure that this gun is solvent based lacquer rated? Lacquer is highly explosive and if the gun does not have a sealed motor, there is the danger of igniting the spray!
Its funny you ask that. Just this morning I was wondering the same thing. I think this could easily atomize automotive paint and put down an even finish. This thing is so easy to use and easy to clean up I keep looking for things to paint with it.

Have you ever tried precast lacquer with the gun. Also what tip are you using.
I know, you're not a big fan - but Ryobi makes a decent HVLP sprayer for their One+ system, so it's cordless. That's a game changer for me.

I have never sprayed pre cat lacquer. I think the pre cat will turn an amber color over time.

No you don't I bought 5 gallons at the SW warehouse the regular store won't have it though

Did you adjust the paint adjustment dial on the side? Its a roller type adjustment to allow more or less paint flow into the sprayer.
