In my opinion this is the arc that proved this show can be good. I think it aired before a lot of the other good arcs that we think of, and I realized then and there this show was special
Fun fact, if Anakin left with the Son, they would head straight to Coruscant, where both yoda and Sidious would sense their presence, and anakin would kill both of them and rule the galaxy. This was discussed in a book and I would absolutely love to see a What If series!
My favourite story In the whole of Star Wars I love how proved that Darth Vader was the chosen one 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 and most of the questions I have is this part of Star Wars Dave is so good at writing Star Wars
So glad that you stuck it out and got over that bumpy uphill climb that is the early seasons. As you are now well aware, we weren't kidding. Then again, I've seen so many times where fans try to urge you to watch further with the promise of "it gets really good soon" and it never happens, so I can very much understand the struggle (not knowing if it actually gets good or not).
This is by far my favorite arc in The Clone Wars, and may even be the most important. It's just seeping with symbolism and foreshadowing! Not just for Anakin, but it shapes Ahsoka's future, too, if you pay attention to her story going forward in this show and wherever she shows up in other Star Wars media. I REALLY wish I could go on and on here about what I'm talking about, but that'll just spoil everything, so I can't 😅 As for what the Ones are, it's kinda difficult to explain what exactly they are. They aren't gods or the Force itself, but they are Force entities and are extremely powerful (it's pretty obvious that they're powerful, of course. lol). There's a bit more about them in some of the non-canon EU/Legends books pertaining to where they came from and other Force entities they have connections to (*cough* Abeloth *cough*), but it's a lot to read, so try finding some Star Wars lore channels like Star Wars Theory or The Stupendous Wave for digestible information that summarizes what the Ones are better than I ever could.
10:05 - "Too much dark or light would be the undoing of life as you understand it." This is why Anakin was the Chosen One, bringing balance to the Force. There was too much light - too many Jedi - and the Force demanded balance.
One thing that was never mentioned about the One's is their massive impact on the galaxy. This is unfortunately a part of Legends, but this arc was made before Disney took over and made everything after the movies Legends, but the One's actually had a huge part to play in containing the most powerful being in the universe for Star Wars, the 'Mother'. For tens of thousands of years, the One's had imprisoned the Mother, who's name is Abeloth, who was a chaotic force of 'nature'. She was far more powerful than the Father and it took both the Son and Daughter teaming together to just imprison her in the Maw, which the Maw is shown in the Solo movie. With the death of the One's there is no one to contain the Mother and she breaks free about 50 years later and Luke Skywalker, as Grand Master of the Jedi Order, has to deal with Abeloth and it's honestly one of the best Star Wars stories to be written. I highly recommend you two look up not only who Abeloth is, but learn about the Legends timeline.
You guys did it! You got through the early kiddy stuff...and now...now it's all going up from here. I'm so stoked for you on the journey to the end now. Rebels is really worth watching too if everyone hasn't already told you, but they learned from Clone Wars and season 1 is really the only kiddy one but still has good stuff.
This arc is definitely the most confusing. If you didn't know, George used to say in interviews that the balance of the force would be the complete eradication of the dark side, but he came up with this arc, which contradicts those previous statements (statements people like to use against Rian Johnson's depiction of the force in TLJ). Which not only shows that George's views on the force, the balance of the force, etc. had changed over time, but that the force itself is not what we thought it was. Everything we think we know about the force is constantly questioned all the time with new Star Wars content and its amazing. That said, I don't think the message of this arc is that both good and evil must coexist, but that the force must simply exist. TLJ explains this the best, in that the force is merely a tool for people to use, and whether it's light or dark depends entirely on how the user wishes to manifest it. The force is an ecosystem, and ecosystem ebb and flow, forever changing. Life brings death, and death brings life. Too much of one or the other would cause an imbalance. We see this in nature all the time. Predators rely on prey. Prey relies on plant life. And plant life relies on... Well, various thinfs. Plant life is more complicated than animal life. But if you were to remove predators, prey, or plant life, the entire ecosystem would be destroyed in time. And if you created an overabundance of something, similarly drastic effects could take place. It's why the idea of a force diad, one of very few things in ROS that keeps in line with TLJ, works so well. It's not that the light side represents good and the dark side represents evil, it's that they represent life and death. And in order for balance to be achieved they MUST coexist. Or maybe I'm reading way too much into the force diad and the representation of the force in TLJ. Either way, I can say that the Mortis Arc, TLJ, the force diad specifically of ROS, and even the entire character of Bendu in Rebels season 3 present the most complex and more interesting interpretations of the force in my opinion. It's something I wish George and Dave talked more about, but as it is, the stories and ideas themselves are more than enough to make my brain really think about what the force actually is.
To show that Anakin was meant to replace The Father, Anakin also had twins, boy and a girl. This is reflected also because Leia has always been a pinnacle of Light while Luke, a Jedi, struggled with darkness
Not jus Liam Neeson but also Pernilla August. She played Shmi Skywalker back in episode 1. Also Sam Witwer Famous for Starkiller In Force Unleashed 1 and 2. He also played Maul and Palpatine. In Solo he dubs over Ray Park for Maul. Ray also did the Mo-Cap for Maul in the last in Season 7 he did not lose a step since he played the character way back in 99'.
Really loved this arc. This came straight from George Lucas. Dave Filoni was confused by this story and George told him that when he understands this arc he will understand Star Wars. And he says he does now.
How come order 66 and clones like captain rex not mentioned in this due to events in revenge of the sith and clone wars season 7 or where they irrelevant
These beings are not representations of the Force. They are simply beings who has such a strong connection to the various factors of the Force that it has shaped their very physical beings and mental natures. It grants them access to powers unobtainable by any other force sensitive creatures. At least that’s my personal interpretation of it. So while yes the Son definitely was influenced by the Dark Side, he originally was not a slave to it like other Sith. He was meant to be above all that mortal nonsense however vanity and arrogance got the better of him and he began to lose himself to it. As for the Son himself. The dark side has clearly distorted and twisted his thinking. He’s not in his right mind. He’s convinced his father needs to die for him to be free not realizing it’s a path to his own destruction as well since they are linked by blood and the Force. He’s very much like a character out of Greek tragedy or Shakespeare, convincing himself of needing something so badly and yet when it finally is given to him all he feels is fear and regret. So when the Father stabs himself, a moment of realization comes over The Son. He’s incredibly much like what Vader will be. Convinced that he can save Padme and the Republic, only to watch both die and he himself become a slave to the Dark Side and the Emperor. There are a ton of interesting parallels and connections one can make, like how The Son attempts to take power by killing his Father “the balance” only to stab the Daughter (a representation of the Light Side) in the back. Very much like how Anakin betrays the Jedi and stabs them in the back thus causing the Force to be out of balance. And then again it’s Anakin who stabs the Son in the back, wounding the Father, which then creates a balance of the Force through sheer negation of all parties involved. Like how Vader breaks free of the Dark Side to kill Palpatine and save…his son.
To me this is the perfect rhyme to Anakin's Fate... First the light is destroyed and the dark side prevails (EP. III), then Anakin turns to the dark side (Vader), suddenly the father sacrifices himself to destroy evil (Vader killing Palpatine) and at the end Anakin brought balance to the force (as the prophecy said) It's like poetry, it rhymes! 😘🤌🏻
Maybe light and dark isn't as simple as good Vs evil. The dark side is driven by emotions, and the light side tries to dismiss those emotions. But we need emotions to deal with certain situations, and there are situations where the head must rule the heart. Even night and day, life needs both.
This is the one arc that is still debated about among fans to this day. Was this all a dream? There are so many other questions and philosophical debates thanks to this arc, and what they mean for "other shows you've not yet seen".

This is definitely the most lore-heavy and interesting arc in the entire series. Incredible stuff about the nature of the Force. You got a bit hung up on the good and evil dichotomy, but I think you're taking a too narrow view. The Light and Dark sides of the Force are not merely moral/philosophical; they're more fundamental than that. They are life and death, creation and destruction. It's these aspects of the universe that must be balanced. Life leads to death, and death makes way for new life. This is shown in the symbols shown throughout the arc: the Light nested within Dark nested within Light and so on. Balance in the Force doesn't mean balance between Jedi and Sith, but balance among all forces of creation and destruction. Episode VIII touches on this too, when Luke begins teaching Rey (one of many ideas I wished those movies had gone further with).
19:00 There is an actual answer to that. Lucas was always adamant that Anakin Skywalker had Agency and Free Will even though Force Sensitive people do have Fixed Destinies available to them. Those are provided by The Whills. There wasn't some creature or magic that made Anakin do horrible things. He couldn't Let Go. He gave into his own fear, selfishness, and greed. The Dark Side is the devil on your shoulder but it isn't The Devil. It cannot make you do things you don't already want to do.
On a side note, about the son. I think the reason why its so weird it see him switching between wanting to kill his father and sister to not wanting to is because of how toxic the Dark Side is. While he is a manifestation of the Dark Side, does not mean he is inherently Evil or only able to do Evil. Technically, the Dark Side of the force does not make one evil either. But the power it gives someone can be blinding and devoid someone of reason. His father counciled him to be mindful of this and not let his lust for power compromise his judgement so when he is being barbaric, its not because it is actually what he wants, its because he is on an adrenaline rush of power from the Dark Side. There are some sith in the past who have actually never done anything tyrannical or evil. Its now legends but given time, Disney may venture into that side of the galaxy and explore non-evil Sith.
I’m loving all the clone wars uploads it gives me so much to look forward too some of my favorite stuff thank you to the both of you guys I love it so much
I think the point of "balance" is more that if you have too much altruism and light-side that it causes harm. It's brought up beautifully in KotoR 2. That if all you do is help people all of the time and never let them deal with their own struggles you breed weakness and dependency which hurts them more in the long run. There has to be a balance between how much you do for other people and how much you do for yourself. Which is very much true in real life as you see people now and again that want to please everyone and can't say no to the point that they run themselves ragged. If you don't take care of yourself now and again you won't be good to anybody.
Ironically, KOTOR 2 came out before this arc so who actually came up with this interpretation of the light side and dark side: George Lucas and Dave Filoni or Obsidian? Regardless, I like it a lot and I think it's a lot better than the "ying and yang, cannot be light without darkness" philosophy.
From the moment you both started clone wars I have been waiting for you to get to THIS episode! There are a few more but this was the first episode that really made me think Clone Wars was one of the best Star Wars properties
Im really happy you keep uploading Clone Wars, I really enjoyed it. When I was little I stopped watching the show around where you guys are. Really excited to see what's coming up.
I never noticed how similar the overlapping vocal echoes were to the one Mother Talzin has when she speaks. Maybe that’s why Sidious was threatened by her.
In the original pre-disney star wars timeline there was a creature named Abeloth who was connected to the Father, Daughter and Son. She was the most terrifying character in all star wars. Check It out, just the pictures around the internet make me shiver
This arc is partly the reason why the Sequel Trilogy isn't canon in my head. They make it very clear that Anakin is the Chosen One, and he did that when he killed Palpatine in Episode 6. Then Disney comes in, brings back Palpatine, only to have Rey literally do the exact same thing that Anakin already did!
I think of the things this arc pushes is that the light side of the force doesn't equal good and the dark side of the force doesn't equal to bad instead its more like forces of nature, kinda like day and night, hot and cold, push and pull, life and death too much of one is the death of the universe neither are inherently good or bad. These concepts are shown to be much older and kinda purer than what we know of the starwars universe as of the present, I think thats why they mentioned that the distress signal was very dated. Most of what we know of the force is through the lens of a Jedi or the sith and i think the events within the mortis trilogy does affect the greater universe just not instantaneously, there was definitely weird time travel and alternate dimension stuff in these episodes like how Rex and the trio were in the same place but are not and how the entire thing happened in mere moments in our actual universe and the distress signal that was 2000 years old. plus if you think about it the order of events here does happen in the later movies just gradually the father was incapacitated hence the balance was lost i think this was for the first 2 movies where the sith started making their move, then daughter died hence the jedi purge where most users of the light side perished then for a brief period the son ruled, the dark side of the force reflecting the period of the empire then the son dying as well as the father, kinda like how anakin the chosen one, the one who was meant to replace the father dies as well as the darkside to bring balance to the galaxy so the mortis trilogy does foreshadow kinda the rest of the events in the starwars universe
7:48 must be remembered. The only way Qui gon can be a force ghost is because the force is equally balanced here. It's strength is his way to Obiwan no way else
The Son DID kill Ahsoka. This is canonically her death, but she was revived by daughter, she only lives because of the daughters life within her. She becomes noticeably better and more mature as a result, but is essentially living on borrowed time.
That is in fact Liam Neeson doing the voice. Anakin here taming the children is only a taste of his full potential. But he couldn’t fully reach after what happened on Mustafar. The 3 from Mortis are like gods that represent aspects of the force, son is the dark side, light is the daughter, and the father is complete balance. These 3 may be gods but the force in the chosen one was always meant to be stronger.
On the topic of light/dark balance I tend to agree with Holden, and I believe George Lucas does as well as he has kind of clarified that "balance in the force" requires the destruction of the Sith because they are an abomination of the force.
"Goodness is independent of evil." What is considered good or evil is subjective, so 'from a certain point of view', how can there be good without evil or light without dark.

The cool thing is that this references legends with Luke fighting "The Mother" which is the opposite of The Father. (If the Father is the embodiment of the Force is that The Mother is the Anti-Force)
If that happened what will happen to the clone army and droid army along with the republic and Separatists
Mad respect for putting up 2 videos Holden & Jen, Happy Thanksgiving !! :)
My favourite story In the whole of Star Wars I love how proved that Darth Vader was the chosen one 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 and most of the questions I have is this part of Star Wars Dave is so good at writing Star Wars
1:18 "It's a 2000-year old code, but it checks out." - The Jedi
So glad that you stuck it out and got over that bumpy uphill climb that is the early seasons. As you are now well aware, we weren't kidding. Then again, I've seen so many times where fans try to urge you to watch further with the promise of "it gets really good soon" and it never happens, so I can very much understand the struggle (not knowing if it actually gets good or not).
My favorite arc! I still find myself just going back and rewatching it and finding new things every time that I’ve missed.
I REALLY wish I could go on and on here about what I'm talking about, but that'll just spoil everything, so I can't 😅
As for what the Ones are, it's kinda difficult to explain what exactly they are.
Fun fact Sam Witwer who plays The Son also plays Starkiller from The Force Unleashed, Darth Maul and sometimes The Emperor/ Palpatine.
10:05 - "Too much dark or light would be the undoing of life as you understand it."
This is why Anakin was the Chosen One, bringing balance to the Force. There was too much light - too many Jedi - and the Force demanded balance.
Time travel in Star Wars Holden? Don't be absurd! 👀
Are you guys gonna watch the Andror series? It is so overlooked and is the best live action Star Wars show!
Fun Fact: The Son is voiced by Sam Witwer, who played Darth Maul in Solo
I was so enthralled by this arc when I first saw it. Definitely one of the most renowned arcs, and for good reason.
At the end of every clone wars episode, i feel sad its over. But then you rascals, you UPLOAD ANOTHER ONE the same evening. Love it.
My notification went off and I thought “It can’t be”. But it is. And I love it.
This was the one I was waiting for! Honestly my favorite arc.
One of my favs but it does not compare with umbara and siege of mandalore
@@Andrew-wv7ql I just love the cinematography and just really cool “camera tricks” in this
To show that Anakin was meant to replace The Father, Anakin also had twins, boy and a girl. This is reflected also because Leia has always been a pinnacle of Light while Luke, a Jedi, struggled with darkness
That "Have you trained the boy?" line always has me in goosebumps.
III), then Anakin turns to the dark side (Vader), suddenly the father sacrifices himself to destroy evil (Vader killing Palpatine) and at the end Anakin brought balance to the force (as the prophecy said)
It's like poetry, it rhymes! 😘🤌🏻
How come order 66 and aftermath of the clones where not mentioned in this arc
This is still my favorite arc of the show because of how it explores the Force.
Thank you so much for uploading these. I use to be a patron but unfortunately I can’t afford to support you guys but I watch and like every video! I love your content so much and as soon as I can I’m getting back on the pattern. Continue the good work y’all!! Y’all are awesome!
Not only was that Liam Neeson but the lady that played Anakins mom also did her voice in that episode as well.
“Let’s get into it”
Dances across yard in kilt
The Umbara episodes of the Clone Wars are some of my favourites. Can't wait for you guys to check it out!
The double clone wars videos is such a surprise. My friend just passed. Thanks for this joy ❤
So happy you're posting so many clone wars videos!
Two videos in one day?? I'm loving it!! ❤️❤️
I love watching Anakin turn to the dark side to avoid turning to the dark side. Classic Anakin.
Excellent explanation about that Good can exist without Evil, and that Evil is perversion of Good 👏
In the original pre-disney star wars timeline there was a creature named Abeloth who was connected to the Father, Daughter and Son. She was the most terrifying character in all star wars. Check It out, just the pictures around the internet make me shiver
So the thing about the red lightning. Only force gods aligned with the dark side can use it
Damn so fast! Yeah they’re getting into the thick of the show now! Thank goodness
Keep up with the Clone Wars uploads awesome content! The show just keeps getting better from here
Thank you for the fast uploads! I love revisiting this show with you guys.
I think of the things this arc pushes is that the light side of the force doesn't equal good and the dark side of the force doesn't equal to bad
instead its more like forces of nature, kinda like day and night, hot and cold, push and pull, life and death
too much of one is the death of the universe neither are inherently good or bad. These concepts are shown to be much older and kinda purer than what we know of the starwars universe as of the present, I think thats why they mentioned that the distress signal was very dated. Most of what we know of the force is through the lens of a Jedi or the sith
and i think the events within the mortis trilogy does affect the greater universe just not instantaneously, there was definitely weird time travel and alternate dimension stuff in these episodes like how Rex and the trio were in the same place but are not and how the entire thing happened in mere moments in our actual universe and the distress signal that was 2000 years old.
plus if you think about it the order of events here does happen in the later movies just gradually
the father was incapacitated hence the balance was lost i think this was for the first 2 movies where the sith started making their move, then daughter died hence the jedi purge where most users of the light side perished then for a brief period the son ruled, the dark side of the force reflecting the period of the empire then the son dying as well as the father, kinda like how anakin the chosen one, the one who was meant to replace the father dies as well as the darkside to bring balance to the galaxy
so the mortis trilogy does foreshadow kinda the rest of the events in the starwars universe
how come aftermath of the clones like captain rex where not forshadowed
7:48 must be remembered. The only way Qui gon can be a force ghost is because the force is equally balanced here. It's strength is his way to Obiwan no way else
I'm glad you guys stuck with it to see these kinda arcs and how good Clone Wars really is.
The Son DID kill Ahsoka. This is canonically her death, but she was revived by daughter, she only lives because of the daughters life within her. She becomes noticeably better and more mature as a result, but is essentially living on borrowed time.
Thank yall for the uploads, definitely helped with the day
A miracle of thanksgiving! Wowee, love you guys
Waited for this reaction for a long time. Sam Witwers first voicerole in this animated series as The Son really confirms he fits there.
2 clone wars videos in one day? I’m thankful for that absolutely! Happy Thanksgiving Holden and Jen
On the topic of light/dark balance I tend to agree with Holden, and I believe George Lucas does as well as he has kind of clarified that "balance in the force" requires the destruction of the Sith because they are an abomination of the force.
I’ve been waiting so long for y’all to post the clone wars reactions and y’all are just pumping them out and it’s awesome!
I can’t help but love how good Sam is as the son and soon as maul
This Clone Wars videos are releasing FAST… I’m enjoying it a lot.
This episode made me not sleep at night. The only SW related content that creep me up.
"Goodness is independent of evil." What is considered good or evil is subjective, so 'from a certain point of view', how can there be good without evil or light without dark.
