Yes! The actor that plays Alfred is amazing. Uhtred is great but the way Alfred is so calculating you can understand his motives even though you don't want Uhtred to suffer the consequences.
Alfred's 'weak in body' was a reference to him having Crohn's disease, King Alfred the Great is one of my favorite historical figures from this time. David Dawson's portrayal of him is so great.
I've watched all three of those series - TLK, Vikings, & Black Sails. I LOVE this genre. All 3 are fantastic but TLK is by far my favorite. The acting & character development are top tier. The battle scenes get more epic each season. Alexander Dreymon always expresses how honored he is to have been given to opportunity to play Uhtred but really, we the viewer, are the lucky ones. His character will always hold a place in my heart. The series is immaculate. I'm so glad I get to see it again through Nikki & Steven's eyes. 📽❤️
The soundtrack was composed by John Lunn with vocals by the Faroese musician Eivør, she does some incredible contemporary songs, a mix between folk & modern music. She was also featured on the score of the latest God of War, which was composed by Bear McCreary.
What I like about the latest season of the Last Kingdom is that even though each episode is around 45 minutes they all felt like they were 2 hours long in a good way.
Uhtred’s character arc over the five seasons is maybe the best arc I’ve ever watched. The way he develops through his journey is is fascinating to see. Love Uhtred
David Dawsons preformance as Alfred is next level you will not know if you want love him or hate him ... but at the same time you will understand him and his reasons its brilliant

I've seen GOT, Vikings and TLK...loved them all (yes, I will still say I loved GOT despite the ending). They all have a different flavour and niche I feel. For me, TLK felt like its focus was more about the 'personal' side of relationships and the like. Some truly beautiful moments. John Lunn and Eivor added to that beauty and poignancy with their music also. Once again, really glad you guys are watching this now! Also, Uhtred's Sword is called 'Serpent Breath' and his Seax (short sword) is called 'Wasp-sting' incase Steven was wondering.
I've watched all seasons and this show was literally one of the best shows on television. Its gonna be funny, frustrating, heroic, romantic, surprising and brutal all at once. The great thing for you guys is you won't have to suffer waiting for the next season........ENJOY!!
I absolutely love the focus of recording information in a literary form. This was an important aspect of his character in the time when even most kings were still illiterate. And it is one of the historically accurate details about Alfred.

An interesting dimension was knowing where all these places are and I've always been impressed that he can get from Somerton in Somerset or Winchester in Wiltshire to York in such quick time!! Up to Reading and back in a blink! These places, at that time were days and weeks apart.
I always find it slightly surreal watching this episode as I work in Bury St Edmunds! I'm really glad you're enjoying this show as it's one of my favourites along with Black Sails.

Just as a side note about the show. It is adapted from a book series The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell. Each season covers 2 books, 5 seasons total. There is a time jump between each season, about 10 years I think. There were 3 more books written, making 13 books in total. There is a movie coming out that finishes up the story
That is one thing about the show is the characters are awesome and you have no problem connecting with them and i also love brida And i love utrad and alfed even tho they both get on my nerves all the time lol i love that your all enjoing this.
You might not be aware that this is based on history with Uthred being an actual historical person as with his ancestral home which you can visit if you come to England. Most of these characters are based on the actual historic knowledge of the times, as was Vikings although the historic accounts of Ragnor are shrouded in mystery, the two stories overlap. English history better than fiction. Game of Thrones is also based on English history and characters, the families and their feuding. Brilliant production. 👍🏴
Every time they use words like 'hump' or 'turd', I laugh a little bit. I can't recall using those words to describe those things since I was in middle school, and here they are being thrown around by hardened Danish warriors. Still, it's part of what gives this show its own unique flavor.

The music on the show is just on another level. Alfred is such a great character.

I really love how the characters in this are very realistic. They're layered. Some with good and bad. I just find it all very well done.

What’s funny is those words and others we consider silly are throughout the books. My favorite is one saying a character is “a lying toads turd.”
