Super excited to watch this one again with you guys! Love your reactions ❤️❤️❤️
This show is spectacular. And the book series it’s based on is arguably even greater. I’d gotten invested into this book series after finding out I am mostly Dane & Norse in heritage. That sparked a heavy interest into me studying the Viking Age. This show launches Uhtred’s main story in approximately 871 CE, which is right before Alfred takes the throne in Wessex from his brother Aethelred. It’s nearly a century after the raid on Lindisfarne & the Viking’s first landing on English shores. Where we come in, is where Ragnar’s sons & the Vikings would’ve been avenging their father’s death in Northumbria, which explains why that is where our story here begins. In the book we got both Ubbe & Ivar. For this show and it’s pacing, they’ve consolidated them into just one character - Ubbe. But just know, this is the era of Ragnar’s sons on their quest for vengeance, taking England by storm, and leaving just the last kingdom of Wessex for the taking. This show is far more historically-based than “Vikings”, which takes a little getting used to, but it opens the door for a lot more learning & amazement along the way realizing most of what we’re watching is how it happened! Prepare to meet some more familiar faces as well as meet many new ones. Can’t wait for you guys to meet the actor who plays King Alfred in this show, he does a phenomenal job. So glad to join you guys for this series after Saul!
so agree about David Dawson. He is why Alfred is my favorite character in LK. Even with all the back & forth with he & Uhtred, I felt his love and devotion to Wessex even more than family & friends. Their last scene together made me cry.
Im currently during the third book and honestly is just soo fucking good. I have to say i have been starting to root more for saxos than danes cuz is horrible how many shitty things danes did to the people
The books were written by Bernard Cornwell and yes, he tries his best to weave a story around historical accuracy. This is one of those rare occasions where I love the books, and I love the series. Enjoy!
I devoured the first book in the series yesterday and finished more than half of the second today (I know they aren't massive, I'm rusty in reading skills though), and I have to agree. The book Uhtred is... not particularly likeable, and I think him being the sole POV character is responsible for that, he comes off as an objective narrator who feels indifferent at most times and claims to be angry at other times. I really like Cornwell's storytelling and world-building, especially the pacing, but I actually wanted Uhtred to be punished the first time in the book. I will say that he's turning around somewhat, towards the end of the second book, but I prefer his interactions with other characters to most of his quiet contemplation. All the other characters seem so much more interesting, which makes me wish the book was a third-person narrative, and Uhtred could stop excusing his blatant stupidity as symbolic of 'boyhood' when there are cleverer men all around him (it also doesn't help that his elder self is technically narrating because that signifies a lack of growth). Please let me know if this improves because I much prefer to show Uhtred to book Uthred at this stage.
I'm sure youve been told by now but just a heads up the Ragnar family in this one is not the Lothbrok family. It's been a few decades since Ragnar Lothbrok died. The Ragnar family in this show the Ravn bloodline. Ravn the grandfather. And Ragnar Ravnson, the Lord of the house. Young Ragnar is Ragnar Ragnarson and of course now you've met Uhtred Ragnarson, the adopted son
@@JustWatching_ There is a detail later in the show about Ubbe that points to him being at least based on Ubbe Ragnarsson SPOILER WARNING. In a later episode Ubbe is said to have traveled to Ireland to avenge his brothers death. In real life Halfdan Ragnarsson was killed in Ireland in a battle with the ruling Danes, though I dont know if any of his brothers ever did try to take revenge.
This show has the best ending EVER. After being burned at the end by so many of my favorite shows (GoT, Ozark, Vikings and Dexter) it's nice to have one that lands it perfectly👌
Ah this show did characters wonderfully. Each had a very clear primary motivation that didn't always play nice with the usual tv narrative tropes. And the relationship between Uhtred and the King is one of the most complex ones you'll see on a show throughout the seasons. Film students and authors should watch this show and learn from it when it comes to how to do real characters, flaws and all.
@@franciscooctavius5957 Definitely, especially Alfred and Uhthred's final sort of... reconciliation so to speak. The guy who played Alfred immediately gave me the vibe of the archetypical British character-actor, and holy sh*t did he embody Alfred, I literally can't imagine anyone else as Alfred the Great other than this guy.
I started watching this show last week because I'd heard such great things... 4 days later and I'd binged the entire show, all 5 seasons. I couldn't get enough! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. 🥰
OH WOW! I just happened to catch your upload! The Last Kingdom is one of my favorite series ever & I've seen them all in this genre. UHTRED IS AMAZING!!!! The actors are absolutely top notch!
OMG ITS HAPPENING!!!! I've been hoping you guys would watch this for so long, this is one of my fave TV shows of all time, thankyou Nikki and Steven for reacting to this.
Finally. A reaction from one of my favorite reaction channels to one the best underrated shows. I recently finished the show myself after having started it when Season 5 came out and i almost started from the beginning all over again but watching it here with you guys will be better. I will say that season 1 is not its best but every season after it is better than the last to finish it off with the perfect ending imo.
Ragnar isn't actually Ragnar Lothbrok, the name was just super common at the time - plus he'd be dead by the time the series happens (his sons have already come to England to avenge his death) and Ubba in this series (aka Ubbe in Vikings) is meant to be the son of the actual Ragnar, as was said in the sagas.
This is the moment I've been waiting for! I started reading the books and watching the series this year. It was so fun watching Vikings with you guys, I really wanted to repeat the experience with The Last Kingdom so I'm really happy to see you guys starting this series.
Your channel just came up on my recommendations because it knows I love the Last Kingdom. It's great to see someone start their journey with this programme. I'm almost envious! The characters in this show can frustrate you, make you laugh and make you proper cry. I am from Wessex so I'm naturally a bit biased, however I love people from both sides of the conflict. I love the music in this show too. So some historical/timeline context. Bebbanburg, or modern day Bamburgh, is on the coast of Northumbria in north east England. It's just across the sea from the island of Lindisfarne where the first Viking raid took place. We are about 100 years after that first raid. England doesn't exist. Instead there are different kingdoms such as Northumbria, Mercia and East Anglia. In this episode we saw Northumbria fall under Dane control. The only kingdom still under Saxon rule is Wessex which is ruled by Athelred, grandson of Egbert or Ecbert in Vikings. Egbert is dead. The Ubba they mentioned is the son of Ragnar Lothbrok. I think you're really gonna enjoy this series. It's so well paced and brilliantly acted.
omg this is a welcome surprise, the last kingdom is my favourite show, such a rarity to have a show that gets progressively better and actually has a pretty awesome ending too
LETS GO! FINALLY! Seeing you enjoy the series already makes me super happy! Just to give you a heads up, none of these characters have any relation to the original Vikings show. There are occasional mentions/easter eggs of characters you may know but for the most, there's no relation. I would also like to say, the representation of Alfred The Great in this show is very very accurate in comparison to Vikings show. Uhtred as a character did not exist historically (that we know) but he is used as a representation of heroes like him who were never written about nor given credit. This show is seriously underrated, you guys will absolutely love it! I recently reacted to season 5 and I cannot wait for you to get there. This show ends beautifully.
I have watched The Last Kingdom countless times. Its my comfort show. I'm so jealous that you are watching it for the first time. Such an awesome story stretched out over 5 seasons. You have a new sub here 😌
I think this show starts approx 10 years plus after end of Vikings - Prince Alfred is the same prince Alfred character in vikings just a bit older - you'll occasionally hear references to characters /events that were in Vikings but that's the only crossover. Steven was correct when he said about historical accuracy, this show is considered closer to history than vikings...so glad you're watching, this is a really great show which I think you'll both fully appreciate and enjoy 👍 ps. Nikki may want to start a notebook for the names!
Cannot tell you how jealous I am you get to experience this for the first time. Such an underrated show and a series that I promise will not disappoint.
Finally!! Been waiting for this! I'm sure Uhtred will become one of Steven's guys! My hubby and I just finished season 4 and will start season 5 today. Btw Last Kingdom does not mirror Vikings on purpose. The first novel was published in 2004. Ubba is Ubba Lothbrok, son of Ragnar. Historically Rollo was not Ragnar's brother, that was fictional Vikings thing.
Just wanted to say thank you both for pumping the content you do, it keeps me sane and entertained during a hard time in life. Love you guys and can't wait to watch the rest of the show with you!
Omg I’m so glad you’re watching this series. I love this show. The dynamic between uhtred and Alfred is some of the most amazing story telling and character interactions you’ll encounter.
Bernard Cromwell, who wrote the books this series is based on did EXTENSIVE research. Although there was an “Uhtred the Bold” he came along a couple of centuries later. So this “Uhtred” is a fictional character…but he becomes a beloved character. My most favorite series, ever.
Ecgberht had been dead for 17 years when the show starts (he was never captured by Vikings). This takes place in Northumbria in 866. The priest tells the young son they have received a letter from King Aella, asking for support. After the battle, the Danes have just taken York. Then there is a time jump of several years. Historical events in the 2nd episode take place in 869-70. Prince Alfred is the younger brother of Aethelred, King of Wessex.
No spoilers, just history: Ubbe Lothbrokson in this show is the son of Ragnar Lothbrok. Earl Ragnar in this show, is not related to Ubbe. Just an ally. Uhtred is based on the real Uhtred from Bebbanburg, which today, is Bamburg Castle in Northumbria. This series is based on the excellent series of books by Bernard Cornwell. This series changes a few things from the books, but is much more historically accurate than Vikings was. They still diverge a bit to make a better tv show and the armor isn’t accurate. But, it’s a great show!
Right! I almost forgot to mention in my comments that there was an Uhtred as lord of Bebbanburg, just...a good 150-ish years later. (But Cornwell made it fit well enough because he just made it so all the eldest sons get named Uhtred.) Uhtred the Bold, Earl of Northumbria, who ruled in the very early 11th century.
Y know what. I was rewatching this beloved series again but after 15 mins of this video I’m gonna watch it through you guys 😊 I’m glad you got to experience it!
Nikki and Steven: “I can tell we’re gonna have a lot of names to remember” King Utred: “I will name you Utred after your brother who died who is named after his brother who died who is named after me”
This show is really good. But I've had friends who didn't like the first season, but loved it going into 2 and 3. So stick with it! Also, don't expect crossover characters from Vikings to be the same in this show. At this moment in history, Ragnar Lothbrok is dead and the Vikings have conquered a large part of England (Danelaw).
just finished season5 last night, so naturally had to come searching for reactions so I can relive it all again. such an underrated show, it took me ages to click & then even watch properly, but Wow! All of its production is done so well... the drama, the tension of the unknown peril around almost every corner & with each battle 😱
I love this series, and I can't help but chuckle when they pass the Uhtred name on. I imagine at some point someone had to be: Uhtred, son of Uhtred, grandson of Uhtred, great-grandson of Uhtred.
So so happy you have found TLK....best ever in my world.....now another reason to watch it again as I follow along with you both!!! Have watched it several times already!!
So glad we’re finally here I’ve been saying for years that Uhtred will be Steven’s new guy like Ragnar was, like Jon Snow was I just know he’ll love him.
I love this show so much. If you watch behind the scenes it will show you they don’t use green/blue screens much. They make the buildings and towns on their own and use some old buildings in the newer ones. I also love how they just film in a random field.

It keeps getting better with every episode, and there's going to be so many great characters to fall in love with. Super excited to watch this one again with you guys! Love your reactions ❤️❤️❤️
its crazy coz i just started this show as well and now they're too
@@extra6839 you will love it!!! I’ve rewatched it multiple times!
You two are into for one of the most legendary journeys ever! I wish I could see this for the first time again!
I have to say i have been starting to root more for saxos than danes cuz is horrible how many shitty things danes did to the people
@@jostnaleman3738 Bernard Cornwell is awesome. The Warlord Trilogy (his treatment of the King Arthur story) are some of my favorite books.
Books are amazing, read them all last chapter of book 13 took me almost a month because I couldn't bring myself to say goodbye
how about you let them watch it instead of storytelling it to them Jesus
So two things to know going in: Fans of the show are called Arslings and we like to say Destiny Is All!!! a lot 😁 Hope you enjoy it.
Such a good show, you're in for a treat.. we're all waiting for the film now which is coming out in 2023 I think.
Good to see you here👍😁
But Ubba is Ragnar lothbroks son
@@jenniferperrier7563 To my knowledge, Ubba isn't Ragnar Lothbrok's son in this show. Vikings in general share names tho.
@@JustWatching_ his character bio lists his name as Ubba Lothbrokson. Hence the Ragnar Lothbrok connection
@@JustWatching_ There is a detail later in the show about Ubbe that points to him being at least based on Ubbe Ragnarsson
SPOILER WARNING.
And we get a movie!!!
Too bad everything before the ending was CW level crap.
@@bevo9118 if your not a fan of the show, why watch a reaction video about it?? 🤔
@@bevo9118 you're just going everywhere in the comment section trashing the show! 🙄
@@sherrijean03 he is just a troll
This show does not get nearly enough attention, glad to see y'all reviewing it! 🙂
Excellent comment regard Uhtred and Alfred’s relationship. One of the greatest attributes of this criminally underrated show.
Oh my God, oh my God, oh my god....thank you. Feels like so many creators glance over this show. Has one of my favorite scenes of any show!
The most underrated show ever!!! This is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine. I'm soooooooo excited you guys are watching! Have fun!
Why guilty? It's just a pleasure!
@@CharlieSoze because everyone is obsessed with Vikings and I could never get into it.
This show is amazing. It's very underrated and slept on. I'm glad you guys are reacting to it
Trust me: you won't regret watching this.
I was hesitant to do so after finishing Vikings, but I am so glad I did!
Yeah the beginning of Vikings starts at 793 AD said beginning of episode #1, this starts about 50 years afterwards.
Yeah, he also might be named after Ragnar Lothbrok you know, like he was kinda a legend.
Finally some1 in the comments understands the history and time line
yeah this show basically starts with the invasion of the great heathen army
HELL YEAH! It can be a tiny bit rocky at the start, it didn't have that much of a budget in S1 but it just gets better the longer it goes!
AAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! I DID NOT EXPECT THIS! YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!! Am so happy to see ya watch this!
YESSS THIS SERIES IS CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED
David Dawson's performance as Alfred was truly inspired and the interaction between him and Uhtred is truly some of the best TV I have ever seen.
David Dawsons acting in this was equally on par to Linus whatshisface who played King Egbert in Vikings. Just amazing
Yeah Alfred in this was fucking awesome, compared to Alfred in Vikings (no offense)
@@franciscooctavius5957 Could you imagine Linus and David occupying the same stage? It would be magnificent.
So stoked you guys decided to do this one. I have watched this thru 5 times. It’s my favorite show ever .
I have watched The Last Kingdom countless times. Its my comfort show. I'm so jealous that you are watching it for the first time. Such an awesome story stretched out over 5 seasons. You have a new sub here 😌
YEEEESS. I randomly started this show one night and got SO sucked into it. It's a great show. I love Uhtred!
ITS LIT!! this is my show. Uhtred is my boy!
excited to embark on this journey with you through one of my favorite shows.
This starts in 866. Vikings ends in 878.
theyre in different universes though so it does not matter@@Leo_ofRedKeep
Cannot tell you how jealous I am you get to experience this for the first time. Such an underrated show and a series that I promise will not disappoint.
Finally!! Been waiting for this! I'm sure Uhtred will become one of Steven's guys! My hubby and I just finished season 4 and will start season 5 today.
Btw Last Kingdom does not mirror Vikings on purpose. The first novel was published in 2004.
Ubba is Ubba Lothbrok, son of Ragnar. Historically Rollo was not Ragnar's brother, that was fictional Vikings thing.
Destiny is all
Season 5 is peak
“Wyrd bið ful aræd.“
(Fate is inexorable)
small correction: Lothbrok was a nicknames so Ubba's name is Ubba Ragnarson not Lothbrok
@@bagyinszkinandor7472 That's true. Just thought using Lothbrok might make it easier to distinguish all the sons of Ragnar's from eachother 😅
Omg!!! You’re finally doing it!!!! I’m so stoked!
Stoked you guys are watching this! I hope you bond to the characters the way many of us did!
Just wanted to say thank you both for pumping the content you do, it keeps me sane and entertained during a hard time in life. Love you guys and can't wait to watch the rest of the show with you!
OH MY GOD I'm so happy you're reacting to this! Such an underrated show
Omg I’m so glad you’re watching this series. I love this show. The dynamic between uhtred and Alfred is some of the most amazing story telling and character interactions you’ll encounter.
This show is an underrated masterpiece
Bernard Cromwell, who wrote the books this series is based on did EXTENSIVE research. Although there was an “Uhtred the Bold” he came along a couple of centuries later. So this “Uhtred” is a fictional character…but he becomes a beloved character. My most favorite series, ever.
And Bernard is a distant relative of the real Uhtred who lived a couple of decades later.
Hope you guys enjoy this show as much as I did 🤩
Ecgberht had been dead for 17 years when the show starts (he was never captured by Vikings).
No spoilers, just history:
Ubbe Lothbrokson in this show is the son of Ragnar Lothbrok.
This show was awesome. As a Brit it was amazing to see our rich and deep history come to life.
Y know what. I was rewatching this beloved series again but after 15 mins of this video I’m gonna watch it through you guys 😊 I’m glad you got to experience it!
Nikki and Steven: “I can tell we’re gonna have a lot of names to remember”
King Utred: “I will name you Utred after your brother who died who is named after his brother who died who is named after me”
you guys are truly in for an amazing adventure with this one, i discovered this show after season 3 and i’ve already binged the entire series 4 times
So happy you’re finally reacting to this, I’ve been waiting years for this!
LOVE this show!! So glad you’re discovering it! Potentially unpopular opinion- I like this show better than Vikings. Don’t stone me 😁
I love them both, but I can feel what your saying lol
Me too!!!!
Agree! Vikings wasn't as consistently great as this show.
just finished season5 last night, so naturally had to come searching for reactions so I can relive it all again. such an underrated show, it took me ages to click & then even watch properly, but Wow! All of its production is done so well... the drama, the tension of the unknown peril around almost every corner & with each battle 😱
This show is so underrated and deserves to be appreciated.
This is one of the best series I have watched, and every episode covers so much story arc, there is no dragging of the story over the whole season.
This is one of my absolute favourite shows, I'm so glad I get to re-watch it with some of my favourite reactors!
bro thank god finally you're watching this show!!!!!! been waiting for this for so long!!
My favorite reactors reacting to my favorite series of all time, summer has begun🙌🏿🎉
I love this series, and I can't help but chuckle when they pass the Uhtred name on. I imagine at some point someone had to be: Uhtred, son of Uhtred, grandson of Uhtred, great-grandson of Uhtred.
I loved the books and loved the show. it's an unbelievable show, and it gets better and better. You guys will love this!!
I hope so!!! Always thought he’d love him
Jon Snow💪
I love this show so much. If you watch behind the scenes it will show you they don’t use green/blue screens much. They make the buildings and towns on their own and use some old buildings in the newer ones. I also love how they just film in a random field.
Finally!! The Last Kingdom is one of my all time favorite series. Glad you guys have started watching it. 🥰🥰 It's always fun watching you react to any series, but I'm so hyped about this journey. 💖

YES!!! finally, I have been waiting so bad for you guys to start this show. This is an amazing show!
Ahhh I'm so glad to see you guys react to this show!!
It's one of my favourite shows by far. It keeps getting better with every episode, and there's going to be so many great characters to fall in love with.
I love how it's historically accurate, since the author of the books this was based on actually did research on this time period and wrote his books based on that rather than mere fantasy.
I can't wait to rewatch this entire series with you!
You guys are about to watch one of the best shows ever. This show gets better each freaking season.
Even George R.R. Martin said people should watch this show.
You are delusional if you think season 5 is the best season of the show.
@@jd1800 No, for me the first 2 seasons are the best. I meant that the quality is not decaying like did in Vikings. So, next time instead of coming with a stupid pretencious comment, just don´t say anything. I never said season 5 it´s my favourite.
If only they would have hired these guys to do GoT Season 8 lol
