      Not a drummer. What are ghost notes?

  • @bryanharrison3889
    @bryanharrison3889 ปีที่แล้ว +624

    One of my BIGGEST complaints about Haake's drumming is that 99% of his ghost notes on his snare are completely and totally lost in the mix. you can SENSE them in many places, but you can only ACTUALLY hear them clearly in a few spots here and there in the average song. Ghost notes came around long before distorted guitars did, so ghost strokes in a METAL BAND need just a touch more volume in my humble opinion to cut through enough to still register as "strokes". I could actually HEAR yours. Good job. Also, play "spasm" if you could.

    • @bl00ber99
      @bl00ber99  ปีที่แล้ว +50

      Yep, I completely agree, I honestly think I can't make any ghost notes on the remastered Nothing album, which sucks because I like the overall sound much better on the remaster.
      I can play most of Spasm, I just havent gotten around to figure out the second half of the snare drum solo yet (when the cymbal hits come in), and also don't know the snare patterns of the section that comes directly after the snare solo. I will most likely try and get the entire song down because I really wanna post a cover of it 😄
      Thanks for commenting bro, and thank you! 😄

    • @neonblack211
      @neonblack211 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      im pretty sure they completely remove a lot them from the mix actually, I think haake uses them as a time keeping device more than anything

    • @bl00ber99
      @bl00ber99  ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yea I mean it makes sense, not all ghost notes are created equal. there are definitely times where I use ghost notes for keeping time, and then other times where I use them to enhance the actual song.@@neonblack211

    Gettin the an electronic drumkit. Never knew this was possible on them

    • @bl00ber99
      @bl00ber99  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea, before I got this I had mainly heard good sounding e-kits that used a plugin, but not too many good sounding e-kits that only used the module. However, I was pleasantly supprised when i recorded for the first time how well it sounded, so it's definitively possible to make the recordings sound nice if you just take some time to create a custom kit within the module :)
      I would also recommend that you try out the recording feature which some modules have (including this one, the TD-17), that's an awesome way to not only record but also keep the quality high.

    My wife bought met one of those digital drum kits like what you have. I've never played drums in my life but I had been tossing around the idea for awhile. Meshuggah is my favorite band and you've inspired me. I know their stuff is going to be really hard to learn but I'm looking forward to trying

    • @bl00ber99
      @bl00ber99  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Luckily Meshuggah has a quite large discography so I'm sure you'll find atleast some songs that you can start off on! Personally I'd suggest 'Do Not Look Down', sure certain bassdrum patterns in that song might feel difficult in the beginning, but once you get the main hihat/snare groove I'd say you'll be able to play it :) Don't worry about ghost notes on the snare or keeping time on the hi-hat with your left foot to begin with, that stuff comes later, and most importantly: Just have fun with it! :D Good luck bro!

      while that's commendable, it's probably only gonna lead to frustration after some time because it's too high of a level for a beginner. just put some ac/dc on and play to that for a while to at least get some basic groove and coordination fundamentals down and throw in some fills. it's kinda like a rep in the gym - if it's not properly done, it doesn't count and even if you can play this groove don't forget that on top of playing it, you also need to make it groove, keep it tight and get the dynamics right f.ex. the ghost notes. without that, it doesn't "count" as it will sound like crap. it's also better if you get the techniques down first and don't have to learn them while simultaneously learning a very yhard piece of music on top of it

    • @magicbirch7406
      @magicbirch7406 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hazardeur yeah you're right, realistically I will probably just put on Manowar haha because I love them and their songs are real simple on the drums
