    Vid-bombed by Ian at 19:58 😂. Top drawer informative overview as always Ed, I could straight up watch a 6hr version of this.

    Many of your colleagues produced videos on the day, whereas you took your time about yours. Both approaches have their merits.
    The same-day videos proved valuable as a preview for anyone going to later days. I watched a few on the Friday to see what was in store when I went on the Saturday.
    Your approach, however, is more like that of a souvenir brochure - it's a measured, planned record of the event.
    I must say that although it was good watching videos the night before I went, I much prefer your approach.

    I'm only halfway through, but have to comment what a superb video this is! I find your commentary intelligent, and well-researched as always, and you're not trying to show off, or be provocative, just giving information and level-headed opinions. Very easy to listen to, and so many beautiful cars to enjoy looking at. I've never heard of this particular show, but will probably visit in person next year, thanks to this video :-)

    Lovely tour and so refreshing to have a series of cars that most pundits, would scoff at. Love your choices and have owned a few. Never owned a metro but loved the MG variant. Really pretty little car and very capable too. Then ofcourse nob head Clarkson turns up and trashes everything. Thank you.

    Well being a 50 something year old this is a trip down memory lane. First car was a Peugeout 104, then a Chevette, a Golf 1100, Lime green MG Metro, Cavalier, Golf Gti Mk1, Golf Gti Mk 2 8v and then a 16v. Pug 205 Gti, Australia GTE, you get the picture lol.

    Great video. I’m finding it interesting reacting to your declarations of the virtues of cars I remember seeing everyday during my youth, and found at the time to be basically cheap crap. It’s fun to learn things someone else appreciates about these throwaways, and even changing my opinion of a few.
    Also love the Thunderbird roof on that Lotus Cortina. It looks like the Falcon sedan.

    Great video, Twin Cam. Well written and excellent production. Walk rounds at a show are good, but doing a voice over just made it seem a lot tidier and easier to watch. Thank you for the video as I couldn’t make the show this year.

    I great 1st part. For the most part It takes me back to when I was a teenager remembering these cars changing from the soft body style evolutions from the 60's to the more dynamic angular styles leading to the 70's. That was for the time a significant shift in quite a relatively short period. Nice one Ed!

    Thanks Ed for a trip down memory lane. You showed many of the cars I've owned or had as company vehicles - Saab 99, Volvo 145, Ital/Marina, Metro, Allegro, MGB. I nearly had a Scirocco, too, but when I went to see/test drive one, I was too tall for it. My head was brushing to roof with the seat at its lowest. Shame as I loved the way it looked.

    Great video Ed, I am in agreement with you I was never a fan of the mark 3 Escort but my interest was mark 4, 5 and 6's mainly because my grandfather and my dad had these when I was growing up.
    I cannot beleive the Freelancer is 25 years old, I can remember seeing it at the Glasgow Motorshow at it's launch and chasing Tina Hobley from holby city around to the land Rover stand to get her autograph (I was 14 at the time!)
    One day I will either own or drive a R8 or a R3 Rover 200 and totally agree the R8 was much better than the Astra and Escort of the day.
    Looking forward to the next part already.

      It's difficult to appreciate any car when it's at that "awkward" age of not being new enough, and not being old enough, to stand out owing to its uniqueness.
      Discipline and patience is required to show the car in its best light.

    Me thinks that MKIV Escort estate has been breathed on a bit. Love the E30, nearly had a 2dr 325 but, needed a bigger boot however prefer the E21, especially the 323i. Looking at the Ital now (never a good looking car), it seem like something from the Soviet Union. One car I wish I had bought was the Rover 216, never know might have one still, looking for something (Misses allowing). Some great cars there, looking forward to part 2. Got to say the first shots with Melvin shows the wheels up real good and they do look much better proportioned. How to sympathetically modify. Oh as for the MKIII Cav's, had a few, prob one of the most comfortble cars of it's price point to do miles in, in 1.8/2,0ltr from with slightly higher spec (same for MKII Astra/Belmont in bigger engine/higher spec), got great long final drive so motorway cruising is a breeze and they sip fuel. GSi's are fun, rot like hell, got a problem for the V6's myself.

    Sorry but the slant 4 was in triumph before saab because saab purchased the rights from triumph. Saab went on to develop the unit adding turbos improving the 16v set up

    • @TwinCam
      @TwinCam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The first car to get the Slant-Four was the Saab 99, in 1968. It took Triumph until 1972 and the Dolomite to install it in one of their own cars.

    K series had terrible head gasket issues,no mention of it?

    • @TwinCam
      @TwinCam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry if not mentioning an issue is a problem, but it’s not really a thing with Metros, especially those pre-‘93, as they had a different liner design. Also, the 8 valve Ks are less of a problem, as are warmup issues when the car it’s installed in is as light as these.
