Thank you for this demo video. Visually illustrating the differences of these steering racks is quite helpful for folks like me looking to upgrade from a stock e46m3.
Anyone find it odd that the Yellow tag ZHP rack is turning 2.8 lock to lock here? Somehow the entire community confirmed many times that ZHP racks are 3 turns lock to lock. The rack in the video seems more in line with the Z3 racks...
No look at it properly, he has more than one and half turn on one side, and less than one and a half turn on the other side, which is what made you think it looked shorter as that one side didn't turn very far. His rack is just not centered, watch and count the turns again, noting the position of the wheel at each steering lock.
@@imnota I think you are mistaken. The ZHP rack demonstration starts at 1:15. He turns slightly less than 1.5 turns in both directions which makes it ~2.8 turns lock to lock
@@nicolasbrunelle951 Thanks for the info. Its really confusing how the community is convinced its 3.0 lock to lock. One explanation would be variations even within the yellow tag zhp racks that we arent aware of
Yes that’s true did comparison on purple tag as well Quick ratio steering rack upgrade for E46 M3 comparison 712 ZHP Yellow Tag vs Purple Tag Surprise?! th-cam.com/video/y_YwWMmi--E/w-d-xo.html
Thanks 🙏 , this is video is more of a visual demonstration though does not paint whole picture of this upgrade. If you do any type of spirited/track/performance driving it’s a no brainer. Steering feel is much better than on stock rack, although in the video it might not seem much of a difference while turning wheel side to side while standing, while car is in motion you can real tell the difference show much less steering input you have to make to have the car turn in.
Thanks for the super visually informative video! So just to clarify what you said at the end, the ZHP rack and the ZCP racks are the same? Meaning, if I have a ZCP E46 M3, then this ZHP rack is exactly the same, correct?

Nice video. Anybody know the difference of yellow tag 712 and 713? Both 3.0 lock to lock?
Great comparison thanks!
Interesting video, I just did the test with my Purple tag rack and its exactly the same ratio as the yellow tag From the ZHP

Purple rack has same ratio as 712 rack, just a different pinion torque rod diameter making purple rack feel easier with less effort.
Good video, did the ratio increase or decrease for ZHP712 yellow tag?
Yellow tag rack decreases ratio, thanks 🙏
Easy to see less lock to lock. But is it simply because there is less rack/wheel travel? Or is it actually less turns to achieve the same travel
The amount of turning of your tires/wheels remain same always. Only the turning of the steering wheel changes
How do you like the change? I’ve been considering changing for awhile now
I still love it to this today, car should have came with this rack on all models not just come
Your stock one was purple or grey tag?
Stock rack is Green tag
M3 Rack is better. Less correction more direct
Interesting video. Not worth it though IMO

@@MotorsportInspired Does going square / larger front tire help too?
@@gerardwalsh4724 coming from someone who went square/bigger it makes it a little better but the turn in is a little worse

Hi, yes that is correct 👍
