Finally someone who knows their left hand from their right when building these things...

I would be interested in how you improve the bass...

He is using a 10" subwoofer...

    Some voices seem pretty OK.
But other things you get from an average speaker are missing : dynamics, textures, definition.
Pretty good start but maybe look at open baffles designs with GR Research, a DIY source on YT.
Open course on theory & what I think are good speakers demos on YT. Compare it with your DML before going too far.
Btw, DML works like a bipolar : placement is special.

Hey Vivian, thanks for the resources I’ll definitely check it out.

@@TypicalBenYT Ur welcome. I followed all his courses on open baffles. He did all the test stuff like u do but with regular speakers. I think u'll be interested. It's kind of unique what he found there. Final shapes involved are pretty surprising and sound demos are not bad, to say the least. It's not about the very system you demonstrate but it's also open baffles... & an open door too huge systems, if you have space.

How is the sound stage? Do you get a 3d sound image.

Hi Kenneth. If you give them space they can give a very 3d image, as the sound radiates pretty much equally from both faces of the panel (there is cancellation at 90° ie between the panels).

    1/4” bamboo panel too thick?

    • @TypicalBenYT

I guess the added rigidity would be beneficial but you’d probably need more powerful exciter/s to get good volume out of it (and it has to vibrate more mass). Using multiple drivers might be good though.

Sure thing. I will make another video to explain it!

I drum on Djembe, & make my own. In doing so, the DENSER the wood species...the more "powerful" the instruments sound is.
I'd avoid a "synthetic wood*" panel, for as straight-grained most-dense solid wood panel you can find!!
Taper the panel's form, too. Guess I should make my own vid, huh? :-)
*it's crushed & reglued thin bamboo, after all.

Hey Antoniio - I think the issue you might have with a very dense wood is that you'd need more power to exciter the great mass of the panel. Light and stiff seems to be the name of the game.
If you give it a go, let me know I'd be interested to see the results!

You're making a musical instrument. You want the wood to influence the sound, make it richer. With a speaker you want the opposite, you want the sound to come through with as little influence from the materials as possible.

Why do I keep thinking... "shouldn't they replicate the emanating sound waves, in their shape & varing thickness!??"
Somebody, please help me understand WHY it's not so :-)

Maybe it is the mic, but for me it just feels like a loud mess. Clarity isn't that great, sounds VERY "funnel shaped", and I don't know, it does not work for me...
