Fantastic Stuff Clay, I am devouring your stuff. As in my recent comment to you, I love the lesson about splaying of the feet lesson. I shot 1 over the back 9 yesterday and won the Comp off 15Hcp. Will work on my set up and hopefully I will get to Single figures at 68 years old. Thanks again.
thanks for this video. i have had issues with my setup and having problems understanding how to setup. i can groove my irons, but i was using the same setup for the driver and it has been bad. now i understand why.
Very interesting. I had always heard that you widen your stance for longer irons OR you move the ball up in your stance. Now that you mention the 6-8" behind the front foot and just widening your stance as you go, it all makes sense!:)
Great video! I still have a major issue with my irons. I release the club to early and my hips are square at impact. Time to scour some of your iron videos.
As always you are making great , informative videos. If my swing mechanics were more consistent I could play better. I think your advice on ball position will help me.
@@TopSpeedGolf BTW seeing your right hand grip in better detail has made a difference also. a small change for my grip resulted in more accurate approach shots.
Thanks Clay! I am a member of top speed golf and have completed your distance and ball striking master class. I still struggle with casting the club and being square at impact rather than opening up and getting forward shaft lean. What do you think of the total golf trainer?
Hi, I would recommend working through the Top Speed Lag course. Work through level 1, 2, and 3 so that it's fully ingrained. I haven't ever heard of or used the total golf trainer but I looked into it and I can see how it could be useful to get some feedback while training positions. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Clay, I have tried this very thing, and the issue I run into is, past the impact point of the irons, my club head begins to turn closed, seemingly as it should in a natural follow through. My impact on the ball, with the driver, is usually on the toe and it hooks. My iron strikes are pretty solid. How do you adjust, or compensate, for the ball placement in your stance relative to square club face? I need to gain confidence in my driver. Second question is, how do you adjust your stance when hitting shots off a tee with an iron, or even a fairway wood (thinking a layup shot or a par 3)? Thank you for your content. It has come at a perfect time for me getting back into the sport and needing to shed some of my previous bad habits.
Hi Chris, you're contacting the ball at a different point in the swing so the face angle and path of the club may need to be adjusted. The ball is further back in your stance with the iron so your face might be more open and the path more in to out where as it's the opposite with the driver. You just need to adjust your feel to get the desired result. If you're leaving the face closed with the driver then try to hold the face open. Feel like the palm of your trail hand is pointing to the sky through contact. You don't adjust your stance when teeing the ball up with an iron. All you're trying to do when you tee the ball up is give yourself a perfect lie. You can do the same thing with a 3 wood but if you're going for max distance then I would play it similar to a driver and hit up on it a little bit. Glad you're enjoying the videos. Play well! It can be but it doesn't have to be. You can play all shots off the turf from the same place. If you want to hit it higher or lower than you may want to adjust ball placement. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Generally that would suggest you're coming too steep if you're making a deep divot. You want just a thin layer of the ground to come off, not too deep. So yes you'd need to come in more shallow to get the thinner divot after the ball. I'm no expert so take that info for what you will.

Gregg, I did exactly the same thing. Irons are pure, driver is unbelievably inconsistent 😑
You're welcome!
Thanks for all your great videos.
My pleasure!

what about full shot PW vs 5i... is the PW more back in your stance vs the 5i? Or trying to get more spin on a PW, would you set ball off back foot?

With irons even when I hit the ball first i often hit the ground too hard after the ball. Do I need to make a more shallow swing?

Hi Glenn, yes, most likely. Sounds like you're chopping down into the ball. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Oh great. Yet another video where you do everything wrong on purpose and still out drive me by 70 yards. Sighhhhh...........Thanks for todays video.
Thanks for the view
I STINK!
Hope the video helps
I thought you were a tennis guy.
Clay used to make tennis videos too. We still have the channel but haven't made any new content in years. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
