i noticed Marlin has his nippers on the pocket zipper on his chest. this drives me nuts about Simms waders, none of them have D rings! WHY?! almost all of the cheaper brands have started adding D rings to the chest clasps but Simms still hasn't. Makes trying to rig things to your chest annoying. Everyone should inundate Simms with messages about adding D rings to their waders.

Dude exactly! Those floats actually present a jig or bait nicely vertical and they just go down. I've caught so many fish on those floats - if they work why not?

Nothing is more important than reading water and finding the fish. This is what separates the 90% of anglers that don't catch anything, to the 10% of the anglers who catch almost all the fish. No amount of expensive tackle will catch you as many fish as knowing this information.

Run n gun is great, unless it's a popular river on the weekend. Then what? Everywhere I go, someone is already there.
I'm a great lakes fisherman, NY and salmon river and oswego river mainly and those are some of THE busiest places in the country you could steelhead fish. That's a major problem we have and unfortunately really dictates my approach on everything. Because of pressure we tend to have to go real light, commonly 8lb main with a 6 or even 4lb leader to get bites. Also a long rod with extra cushion for light leader but landing the fish can be harder. When it's busy, running and gunning isn't feasible so I'm often forced to really pick apart spots rendundently and do a lot more color or bait changing. Is very effective specially if your in a spot they routinely push through. I don't think that's as feasible in the pnw cuz at least in most great lakes scenarios we have so many fish stocked and smaller water that there's almost always something to catch, They just are extra finicky. If covering more water isn't an option I would say pick the most productive water you know a little bit, and get more technical on how you break the water down. Adjust the float more and really try to line yourself up to really get in those buckets and find rocks or current breaks that you might of missed just fishing the float at 1 general depth. If water is fast enough, I like to bottom bounce to really really pick every little nook apart.
@@jeremyphillips6229that's very good info - if we are in a slot that fish are moving through we do the same, but in most cases only a few fish are in and they are holding in a few specific holes, you just gotta find em!
