@@ibast1- In fairness, the driver is watching all four corners while doing this manoeuvre and the rear flare out isn't an issue unless someone is in his lane. The big risk here is normally the back right side, cleaning up the sign or traffic light. He can see that unfold in his RH mirror, but loses sight of the left side at some stage in the turn because of the angle. It's a mistake, but one only prevented by not taking the turn when it's obvious the vehicle is over the front and side lines. Two parties at fault, but one where the truck driver gets sympathy from me.
That was my video. It was super weird. Those plates also belong to a hire car Camry of all things. A guy at work telling me proudly he only had one DUI (30 years ago) when he drives home from the pub all the time....I watch these and wonder how many are his mates doing the same
5:09 Unless there is an insane law arguing otherwise when I enter that dedicated left turn lane NOTHING says I have to turn into the first left turn... and I would expect anyone normally having to give way when entering a roadway from a parking area... would have to give way to me... and not make a move until they knew for certain exactly where I was headed.
Once you've experienced it from the other side, you'll realise your indicator is for indicating. I used to stick to the rules as they are written until I had a very similar incident to the video and realised they thought I was turning. Now I indicate to tell people what I'm doing instead of by the letter of the law. Haven't had anything like that happen since.
@tin2001 Yeah, when I was a kid my dad was changing from middle to left lane on Parramatta Rd just near a side street where someone pulled out when seeing the indicators and not realising it was just a lane change. I remember the large argument the guy was having with Dad and wasn't happy when the attending police gave him the fine. So now similar to you I try to think of other motorists when indicating to try to avoid confusion with other motorists (and nothing peeves me off more when sitting at a roundabout for a few mins waiting for a gap and the car that entered to the right of me enters and exits without indicating left, which, if indicated, would have given me the chance to enter... of course if they indicated but went straight and I collided with them, it would be my fault lol).
That was in Victoria and I remember when getting my license that the Victorian learner's book specifically has a situation like this, mentioning that as the driver looking to enter the road you should never assume where the oncoming traffic is turning and wait. Unfortunately they don't teach patience for converted licenses.

tricky video at 5:09... I understand the driver of the car turning left ahead of the dashcam car, because the dashcam car's left indicator is on, but at the same time, the dashcam car is merging left to make the left turn at the traffic light. Tricky because the lane to merge into has a road one can make a left turn to just before the lights as well. Nevertheless, given this situation, the person coming from the left should've been more cautious of cars coming from his right, regardless of what the car's indicator might signal you.

It's Head-Ons on the country roads that I'm surprised don't cause more deaths. Those overtaking seem to assume the one coming the other way has enough desire to survive that they pull out of the way. All it takes is the two of them thinking the other one is going to chicken out. So many of them I see here and so many of them are just before an overtaking lane.
I love playing DCOA Bingo. Red light runners, wrong way around a roundabout, 'overtaking' on the shoulder, driving the wrong way, truck not giving a shit and barging through. No other DC channel has such variation.

Yeah what were they thinking? We waste paint on these roads.
I didn’t notice they were over at first. Bet they regret that now. Tricky one from a liability standpoint though, as the truck should have seen there wasn’t room.
@@MeppyMan Not tricky at all. The car was already there when he proceeded. You can't just run into cars because they are somewhere they shouldn't be. It's not up to other road users to deal out justice.
Truck should have waited.
Crazy truck and ute driver extravaganza this month.
You spelt "Mud carters" wrong.
Truck drivers and tradies are the worst on the road
I thought the guy overtaking cyclists on the bike track was a kinda funny way to make a point.
I love how he also ran the read light 7:25
That was my video. It was super weird. Those plates also belong to a hire car Camry of all things. Once the glass shattered he legged it and was cutting in and out of traffic 30+ kms faster at least then the speed limit. My dash cam went to the next file after he bolted through the red light and I couldn't figure out how to splice it.
Looks like he’d stopped at the light but then as the canner got closer he decided he needed to get out of there and not exchange details
@@awillo7658 I guess I must just look that scary 🤣Probably due to the fact they were running on potentially stolen plates.
A guy at work telling me proudly he only had one DUI (30 years ago) when he drives home from the pub all the time....I watch these and wonder how many are his mates doing the same
5:09
Unless there is an insane law arguing otherwise when I enter that dedicated left turn lane NOTHING says I have to turn into the first left turn...
and I would expect anyone normally having to give way when entering a roadway from a parking area...
would have to give way to me...
and not make a move until they knew for certain exactly where I was headed.
And the tosser was sitting on the cross hash and not on the turning lane too!
@@TonyHamlynprobably international licence changed over to aussie one without a second check too
That was in Victoria and I remember when getting my license that the Victorian learner's book specifically has a situation like this, mentioning that as the driver looking to enter the road you should never assume where the oncoming traffic is turning and wait. Unfortunately they don't teach patience for converted licenses.
That intro was a beautiful way to start off the monday morning.

yep he was so lucky
Another harrowing episode there!!! Almost turned blue holding me breath watching these crazies....!! Cheers for compiling and sharing another great vid DCOA!
overtake on the bike path was actually hilarious
tricky video at 5:09...
I live in Japan and I was like snow in July!? Then i realized you guys are in winter right now lmao
Southern hemisphere moment.
This is the point where most people say:
"Australia gets snow?!"
People are oblivious its illegal to cross into a lane marked with continuous solid lines, unless for legitimate reason.
Fail galores on the City-West Link North-Easterly bound at the very spot shown at the 6:39 timestamp, and also at another spot on Wattle Street South-Westerly bound going onto Frederick Street Ashfield at the Parramatta Road intersection.

I'm stunned the road toll isn't in the thousands.
1,263 people died on Australian roads in 2023, marking a 7.03 per cent increase from the 12-month period ending December 2022.

As the import numbers rise so will the death toll
I’m stunned you didn’t research before commenting
It's Head-Ons on the country roads that I'm surprised don't cause more deaths. Those overtaking seem to assume the one coming the other way has enough desire to survive that they pull out of the way. All it takes is the two of them thinking the other one is going to chicken out. So many of them I see here and so many of them are just before an overtaking lane.
We'll get to zero one day.
I love playing DCOA Bingo. Red light runners, wrong way around a roundabout, 'overtaking' on the shoulder, driving the wrong way, truck not giving a shit and barging through. No other DC channel has such variation.
1:35 BRO! In the wet as well! So fn close.
9:15 I watched it 4 times; that tractor seemed to come out of nowhere. love that he laughed it off.
4:18 Really? They couldn't have just looped around the roundabout when they realised they were missing their turn and come back to it? It's called a _roundabout_ for a reason. Then driving into a sign was the icing on the stupid cake.
EDIT: I just realised they had their left indicator on already. So they didn't miss their turn, they just misjudged it. I mean, REALLY misjudged it...
Upvote for the edit. I was going to point out the indicator.

At 5:17 I was in exactly the same situation as that guy (without the road rage bit) I was at a T-juction just like that one and to my right I saw a car coming up with it's left indicator on. I though they were entering where I was leaving from so I took off. Next thing I knew the guy was beside me yelling his head off out the window. I apologised but he was past caring. Her left indicator was on because she was leaving one lane and entering the new left-turn lane. There was nothing to wonder about.
Short, but exciting this month.
I will never understand why people need to get that 1 spot ahead or need to change lanes a bunch of times to get to their destination 20 sec earlier (assuming they don't crash and end up 3 hours late). There seems to be an inability to just back off when there's a knob head doing dumb stuff in front of them.
